Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

What you wore or did to bring the Tide luck this year?

This question has been buzzing around my head since I lost my Crimson Tide wrist band that a child gave me.  I put it on at the beginning of the season along with my new black Crimson Tide's Rollin t-shirt and we went undefeated.  But, I misplaced it right before the SECC game and didn't find it until this past weekend and of course you know the outcome since.

So the question I have is, Am I the only one who puts on these type items or are there others that go even further than I, (which I have a feeling there are).  And what other little routines do others do for a Tide victory.

Whatever it is we all do, we must keep it up and be ready for next season.  Roll Tide!

However, I bought a new sweatshirt the day of the Florida game and also wore the day of the Utah game that I’m not busting out again until we schedule a junior college.

So it was YOU...

Seriously though, I got a Bama belt (same one Saban wears, so there’s a connection there) and a visor for Christmas ‘07, and broke them out for the first time in our bowl game against Colorado last year. We proceeded to go 13-0 with this attire, but I did nothing different for the SECC or Sugar Bowl, and we lost anyway. Don’t tell anyone, but I’m starting to think that this crap really doesn’t affect the outcome of the game. It’s just a theory though…

Kilt

I wore my Kilt this year for the Utah games for the first time. I’m not doing it next year unless I attend one.

Sorry.

Oh, from my friend who attended the Sugar Bowl with me:

Y’all were well represented.

Good Luck

I haven’t ever specifically worn an article of clothing or outfit for luck; however, I do feel that I’m somewhat lucky and unlucky. Examples:

1. I went to my first Alabama athletic event back in 2007 I believe when Alabama played Georgia at home (basketball). Alabama trailed the entire game and then came back and won with a last second shot.

2. My first football game was the 2007 game against Arkansas. Alabama made a last second throw and won the game.

3. I had the opportunity to get tickets for the Alabama vs. Georgia game last year and I decided not to go. Alabama losses in overtime.

4. I had tickets to the ULM game last year and I got sick the day of the game and didn’t go….need I say more.

5. I went to every home game this year and we won every home game.

6. If I really wanted to I could have paid and gone to either / or both the SEC CG and the Sugar Bowl.

Someone in the Football Program needs to hook me up with tickets to every game. Just to make sure!

I

was at the ’07 Arky game when Matt Cadell caught that pass in the end zone. That was my first time seeing ’Bama win in person.

LOL...I was there too...

Even though the catch was made in the endzone where I was sitting, I didnt see the catch!

Since we are talking about superstitions, I went to get a drink and we scored. I then went to the bathroom and we scored again…well toward the end of the game, I told my buddies I was leaving…

I went out toward the tunnel and did not watch the game. Instead, I stood out by the bathrooms and listened to Eli Gold. I really took that one for the team…I was HAPPY but pissed at the time…RTR!!!

I wore the

same pair of pants-pants that I actually hate, to every game this year. When we lost to Florida, I switched to pair of pants I like. I think come Sept, I’m going back to the orginal pants I hate.

I don’t think the pants had anything to do with the winning, but it is kinda funny what normally sane people will do when it comes to sports. Like baseball players jumping over the baseline on the way to the dugout, I used to always stop and eat at the same Crystal’s on game day. I always had 3 Crystal’s and a coke.

i pick up a new shirt at the start of each season. this one did a great job and i regret neglecting it in lieu of a sugar bowl shirt purchased in advance of the bowl game – never again.

Wore the same clothes every game

A pair of Lucky jeans
Red New Balance
Red striped (not the beer) button up shirt.

Although the thought of a Red Stripe has me thinkin of a Drinking thread again or it could be the utter arse whippin that Utah gave us that has me wanting to drink. Either way I am thristy.

Auburn fans are like slinkys... not really good for anything but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

You should never

change a “lucky” item until the luck runs out!!! Even if it is ugly.
I bought a new t-shirt for the SECCG in ‘06. I bought it online and didn’t really like the color when it arrived (looked different than it did online), but still wore it to that game and to the BCSCG in Glendale. After those 2 wins, I decided that it would be a “championship game only” shirt (mostly because I didn’t like it enough to wear it to all games). So I next brought it out in March for the SEC Basketball Championship final in Atlanta, and again in April for the basketball national championship game (again in Atlanta). 4-0 was a great start, but it sat in my drawer until this past December’s SECCG in Atlanta and then I wore it last week in S. Florida. So I have worn the shirt a total of 6 times and have seen 3 SEC titles and 3 National titles. It’s the luckiest shirt I have ever heard of.

While tailgating outside the stadium last week, we discussed this same topic and the suggestion of “retiring” the shirt came up since it would eventually lose. I decided that I would retire it when Tebow leaves – so hopefully I will get to wear it next season and then retire it.

and yes, I do wash it after every wearing.

5026 needs to bust out the hated pants….for the good of your team.

au contraire, mon frere

when something seems to have some serious luck involved – like something you wore through this season – it then moves into the pantheon of items of fortune, only to be brought out at times of great import and need. think of it as “the ole Billy Baroo” rule.

Scooby Doo Underwear

I just happened to be wearing Scooby Doo Underwear (without knowing they were lucky) for the Clemson game. I proceeded to wear the same Scooby Doo underwear for each and every game thereafter. I suppose they only had 12 uses because the luck ran out of them for the SECCG and Sugar Bowl. I need to find something else before the VT game.

Also never witnessed

Alabama ever lose in person in the regular season. I did see them lose the SEC Championship game this year and the Music City Bowl once in person, so I may stick to regular season contests in the future. I’ve probably seen them play about a dozen times, so I’m 10-2 I think. 10-0 in the regular season. Not that I think about silly stuff like this…..

I made

tacos for every Bama game except Utah. Coincidentally, I ate my last taco in the third quarter of the SEC Championship Game against the Gators.

I also had sex with my wife the Friday night before every one of our games, but we had sex Friday morning before the Utah game. Yes, I too underestimated the Mighty Utes.

This was not my only mistake, though. I also ordered pizza for the Sugar Bowl, and for Christmas the week before, I spent the week in Utah with my wife’s family.

Blame me. It is entirely my fault.

Saint

You’re a saint, let me get your taco recipe.

by Aardvark on Jan 15, 2009 2:44 PM CST up reply actions

It's pretty simple

Lawry’s taco mix (I use one pack per 1.5 pounds of meat even though they advise 1 per 1…it’s too salty that way)
-Ground turkey (beef works, too, but we try to keep it healthy); fry it up
-Roma Tomatoes; slice it up it
-Red Leaf Lettuce; dice it
-Mexican Cheese
-Hard Shells

The amount of each ingredient really depends upon the number of people, so purchase accordingly.

the same boxers (tan w/ elephants) on game day! And yes they were washed after every game.

Crimson-red underwear (washed, of course!), and one of the many Bama golf shirts/dress shirts that I own—even for the 2 losses…now just gotta figure out what was different for those 2 and try to do better next time!

I wore the

same t-shirt and shorts for every game, November, December, January be damned (luckily it has been mild in Texas this year). My daughter had the same shirt and wore her shorts every game and my son wore his jersey. We sent my husband to the neighbor’s to watch the LSU game (he’s an LSU fan) when it started going bad for us and it seemed to turn around. We may buy new shirts for everyone next year, since my son has grown about 4 inches and I’m thinking he’ll grow some more before next season. He also plans to play quarterback at Bama in about 3 1/2 years!

"Time and tide wait for no one."

Shortly before the Clemson game, Tmobile sent me an email with an option to receive free fortunes through text message. Apparently I replied “yes” and this is the first one I received right before kickoff! I looked at this message right before every kickoff, every game this season (yes EVERY game) so I feel the mojo is gone, but for a while there I was afraid to even LOOK at my text messages for fear of accidentally erasing the good one. I still like the fortune though, I think it still fits.

hubbed out alabama hoodie.

Wore it every night before the game and then on game day (of which, i cooked every time). By the SECCG it could walk by itself.

My entire family had the same clothes that we wore each and every week.

The family has assigned seats in the house, if we score the while you are not in your seat you can not sit down again until it is decided by the rest of the family that your presence is not bad luck, (for example my wife went outside to check on something during the FL game and was not allowed back in to the house until the end of the 3rd Qtr).

If we wiin the first game of the year, the people that are at your house are required to return each week of the season, if you are not there then you are not allowed to come over to any of the games. (None of the extended family, including InLaws are allowed over during the season cause we seemed to lose, in the past, when they were over).

I have a hat that I have to wear each Monday Tuesday Thursday and another hat that I must wear on Wednesday Friday Saturday and Sunday.

Oh yeah and as bad as we are, I think it is my fault for the two losses, I have a pair of camo shorts that I wore for the entire season with my Jersey…However half way through the season I ripped the arse out of them, I continued to wear them the rest of the season until The CG/Bowl games. I swapped them for some tan ones. I am sorry.

Julio Jones Unlucky for me...

I wore the same shirt to watch/attend every game:
http://alabama.teamfanshop.com/COLLEGE_Alabama_Crimson_Tide_T-Shirts/Alabama_Crimson_Tide_Crimson_Stadium_T-shirt

Then my wife decided to be super cool and gave me this for christmas: http://alabama.teamfanshop.com/COLLEGE_Alabama_Crimson_Tide_Jerseys/Nike_Alabama_Crimson_Tide__Number_8_Crimson_Replica_Football_Jersey

I wore it with pride to New Orleans and look what happened. Hopefully Julio will come through for me next year because I’m still going to wear it for every game.

by bbbmaker on Jan 16, 2009 11:45 AM CST reply actions

I've been...

…naked almost every day since the Clemson game, although I did wear three socks to the SECCG. When that didn’t work, I wore no socks to New Orleans, but at the end of the 1st quarter, I looked down and noticed a band-aid on my knee. I ripped it right off, but it was too late. I’m so sorry for letting y’all and the team down…but man, it feels great to get that off my chest.

If we finish lower than third in the final recruiting rankings, I’m thinking about wearing clothes again. My gas bill was really high last month, and I have to sprint outside to get the paper.

by NiceLittleSaturday on Jan 16, 2009 3:16 PM CST reply actions

well...

I painted my nails orange the Monday before the Clemson game…then Friday night decided I should probably paint them crimson, mainly to match what I was wearing Saturday haha. Instead of taking of the orange, I just painted the red over it. Then we won. So Sunday, I took the nail polish off, then Monday I painted them this awful green color (Tulane). Friday I painted the crimson over it, and we won. I did it all season, and then because of school work and all, forgot to do it the Monday before the SECCG. And we lost. :( And I decided not to do it for Utah thinking it would just be dumb, and we lost.

Therefore, next season, my nails will be painted the colors of our opponents on Monday, only to have crimson painted over them on Friday :) Hahaha.

Thought my red tennis shoes...

…were lucky, but then we won the LSU game without them and lost the SECCG with them. Didn’t wear them to the Sugar Bowl. I did have the same shakers until the SECCG. I had to buy new ones since I think I might have left the old ones at the Houndstooth or Egans during the Barn game.
