Congratulations to Utah. They executed a masterful game plan to as complete of perfection as humanly possible and deserved both this win and their undefeated season. It doesn't make it hurt any less though, so if you'll excuse me, I have some drinking moping to do.

I blame Snow

she makes you feel good, but at the end when it matters, nothing.

Just loneliness and failure.

where the heck..

did our defense go?? 21 points in the first quarter?

Reminds me of the Auburn game

in 2005. Our teams have not bounced back well from losses in recent years, no matter who happens to be our coach.

Im sick

I want to throw up. UTAH? That is embarassing. I don’t care who you are, it would have been completely different if it were Texas or USC.

I am

definitely pretty fucking embarrassed.

Utah's Sugar Bowl MVP...

Andre Smith

Seriously, our defense looked lost most of the game, but our O-line was horrible. Our offense definitely felt the sting of losing Smith. we should be embarrassed

i said the exact same thing lol

ultimately right now, this loss came at a pretty low point in my life so i could care less.

im just lucky i guess…

im not impressed with your performance

I'm not a tide fan

but I was pulling for you guys hardcore, and feel really bad for you.
I think the biggest problem (besides O-line) was that Bama failed to stretch the field. A lot of this is to blame on the Utes for PI every play, but except for Julio, there seems to be a lack of play makers on the Bama squad…

Time for a playoff.

Starting with the Qbs

We got away with a lot of smoke and mirror zone defense early in the year, but the spread exposed our lack of talent in skill positions. A situation that will be corrected shortly.

Thanks for the kind words. Wish we had gotten embarassed by you guys instead. Please whoop OSU’s ass for us.

Reality time

Utah Beat ’Bama in every facet of the game.

- Utah jumped on the Tide early and hard.
- The Utah defense totally stuffed the Bama running game.
- JPW was either getting laid out or running for his life.
- When ’Bama mounted a comeback and got to within 4, Utah re-took control of the game and scored a touchdown.

I say the only unbeaten team in D1 that played four ranked opponents should be National Champion. If Utah is not declared AP National Champion it will be a travi-sham-ockery.

Not Embarrassed by the loss, I'm embarrassed by the way we loss.....

However…….I still think our expectations were blown way out of purportion? this year, maybe it’s just the burbon talking but i’m damn proud of what our team accomplished this year…Thank you to the seniors we have..thank you for the season u gave us, thank you for the feeling of being a winner again, thank you for hanging in there through the coaching fiasco you’ve been through….thank you for giving us hope again. No offence but now get the hell outta the way and let the future start now….let our underclassmen learn from these last 2 losses, let then learn that when CNS says finish, he knows what the hell he’s talking about….let then build from this loss, let them develope let them beome the Crimson Tide that we expect. Roll Tide

Congrats on a fantastic season

12-2 is nothing to be ashamed of, even if the last 2 didn’t go as you expected. You were still the best team in the SEC West and the 2nd best team in the SEC overall, made it to the Sugar Bowl, and ran into a good (and underrated, IMO) Utah team. A Utah team that deserves first place votes in the final AP poll, if you ask me. So I know it hurts now, but just look back on your 2008 season as a whole and know that it was a very good season.

This was a case of BCS bufoonery.

Utah honestly deserves a crack at the title. Their spread offense made our defense look silly and their blitzing schemes made our (admittedly wounded) o-line leak like a old jalopy.

I just don’t think ‘Bama gave utah the respect and preparation that they deserved. They underestimated and belittled them. Compare this year’s Bama team to a Hummer and Utah to a sleek Corvette. We know which one will win the race.

by Adam Schultz on Jan 3, 2009 4:26 AM CST reply actions

our lack of depth on O line

made us look pretty beatable earlier in the year vs Tulane. us losing our two best O-linemen for this game turned out to be the deal breaker IMO. i still think BAMA would beat utah 4 out of 5 times w/o andre smith, though without mike johnson, add in the return of evil john parker, and several girly assed attempts at arm tackling, and you’ve got the perfect storm for whippin crimson tide ass. congratulations to utah, they came to play, as a team, for 60 minutes. if we had done as much we wouldn’t have to eat sh*t all offseason….

by tempebamafan on Jan 3, 2009 5:59 AM CST reply actions

Really, You're embarrassed?

How can that be? You had great season and lost to a great Utah team. We could talk stats for months and argue over the loss of an amazing O-lineman but really what it boils down to is that our boys came ready. You didn’t lose the game because of an O-lineman. I have been in awe of how knowledgeable and respectful the readers/posters of this blog are and now when it comes time show humility you are blaming things on the loss of one player. That is what you should be embarrassed about.

The Utes came to play, as they have every week, I echo the statement above and thank our seniors and coaching staff for a great year. I will see you in the Crimson Club (Utah Alumni section) next year! Go Utes. Tide Rolled.

As a Ute fan we are required to hate BYU, I hate Wyoming because I want to. I stole that I admit it.

by UtahUte1 on Jan 3, 2009 6:37 AM CST reply actions

We are embarrassed

because we didn’t give you our best last night. Not to take anything away from Utah because they played with more intensity and heart, but Utah did not beat a Bama team playing their best. A loss is harder to swallow when your team doesn’t show up to play. Anyone who has watched this Bama team since the Clemson game knows what they look like when they’re really clicking.

We were complacent and still wallowing in self pity. We looked like (and I say this about the coaching, too) that we just assumed we would beat Utah. The offense was horrible. The defense was bad fundamentally from the start and like the 2005 Auburn (after a similarly heartbreaking loss to LSU) we were down 21-0 in a flash. Again, not to take anything away from Utah, but we, and almost everyone else, know what our team is capable of.

Yes, Utah made plays and had some great calls early, but anyone who has played football, especially at this level, can spot bad fundamental play. We played Utah with the same intensity that we played Tulane. Problem is, Utah ain’t Tulane. They wanted it more. Their coaches wanted it more. They deserved to win. It is embarrassing that we/Bama couldn’t get ready to play in a BCS game.

Congrats to Utah, regardless.

by Bamagrad on Jan 3, 2009 7:24 AM CST up reply actions

Utah was better

If an SEC team can’t be ready to play in the Sugar Bowl, then when can it be ready to play? I thought this game was supposed to be an SEC showcase.

Utah was better. Period.

by Rhino95 on Jan 3, 2009 11:13 AM CST up reply actions

If arm

tackling, offsides penalties, dropped passes, interceptions, and blown coverages were something we did habitually in our previous thirteen games you could say just that. Without taking anything away from Utah, we did not play very well.

by Bamagrad on Jan 3, 2009 11:46 AM CST up reply actions

No coincidence

It was no coincidence that Bama looked bad against Utah. Utah is a DAMN GOOD FOOTBALL TEAM.

by Rhino95 on Jan 4, 2009 12:20 AM CST up reply actions

Nobody is disagreeing with that....

…but considering the way Alabama hung with Florida until the end (another DAMN GOOD FOOTBALL TEAM) and the way that we completely dismantled nearly every other team we played (about 4-5 of our regular season games were over by the first quarter points-wise and around 9-10 were over by the half) it was a bit shocking to see them play this badly (especially during the first quarter.) That doesn’t take anything away from Utah, but considering how fundamentally poor Alabama looked at times (being in position to make a tackle and not wrapping up, etc.) it’s kind of surprising. Nobody’s taking anything away from Utah, because when Alabama scrapped their way back to within four Utah delivered the death blow quickly.

It is possible to criticize one’s own team and praise the other at the same time.

by Nico2.0 on Jan 4, 2009 2:39 PM CST up reply actions

I can agree with that

But I think the Bama fans are putting more blame on their team than they should.

I seriously doubt if Bama had beaten Florida you’d have been identifying the main factor to be the non-appearance of Percy Harvin. You would have rightly hailed your team as deserving victors.

I hope we can all agree that this was a spirited, though civil meeting, and wish each other the best in the future.

by Rhino95 on Jan 4, 2009 6:05 PM CST up reply actions

well, i think the embarrasment comes about due to the fact we were completely unprepared for this game, not that we lost. the fact is utah is a very good team and it’s clear we didn’t take you guys seriously. we paid a steep steep price for it . your coaching staff put together a solid game plan to exploit our weaknesses and executed. we didn’t.

one point that i think got overlooked in the pre-game hype is the degree of experience utah has had with these games in comparison with bama. we are an extremely young team and this is the first year we’ve played a new year’s game in quite some time. there is a lot of difference between the atmosphere and quality of opponent of that level and what we’ve been used to in recent years.

by kleph on Jan 3, 2009 7:25 AM CST up reply actions

i blame the loss on

us not having 2 of our starting 5 O-linemen, AND on us sleepwalking through the first 15 minutes. if only one, or none, of those things happened instead of both, then i think BAMA still beats utah…..utah played a fantastic game though and they deserve all the credit in the world. they are certainly not the type of team BAMA could sleep on, i put them up there with florida and ol miss as the best teams we played all year, and if i could vote int he AP poll, they’d get the #1 from me, followed by the (one loss) winner of the BCS title game.

by tempebamafan on Jan 3, 2009 7:43 AM CST up reply actions

It was a 4-point game in the 3rd

Utah responded by marching the field and scoring a TD.

Give the Utes credit. When they needed a play, they made a play.

by Rhino95 on Jan 3, 2009 11:17 AM CST up reply actions

i do, and indeed they did

but give andre smith and mike johnson credit as well. when their replacements tried to simply not get exposed-blown up, they couldn’t do it. our O-line and pass protection was a complete abomination friday night. the o-line hasn’t looked that awful in a long time. Utah’s execution, coupled with our depth problems, made that happen. some other teams certainly wouldn’t have exploited it nearly as well as utah did, others, would probably have done even more to us than the utes did…

congrats on the undefeated season, utah whopped our ass…

by tempebamafan on Jan 4, 2009 1:01 PM CST up reply actions

Really

We didn’t lose the game because we lost an O-lineman, we lost the game because we lost the Outland Trophy winner who was critical to our run game and pass protection. I can hardly count the number of times JPW was hit or pressured from his blindside which wouldn’t have happened if a player who had only given up one sack all year was at left tackle. We should have more depth in the future.

by CJackson on Jan 3, 2009 1:47 PM CST up reply actions

I

blame the loss on Utah clearly wanting to be there, and Bama clearly wanting to be somewhere else. Not an excuse though. Great game Utah you deserved it.

Bama......what the heck?

Utah played with chips on their shoulders. Alabama played with crying tissues in their pockets. I guess not having Percy Harvin would have been a good excuse if Bama had beaten Florida, but good teams overcome. The Ole Miss game is a prime example. Florida will chop off the head of the snake on January 8th. Go Gators!!!!!

I'm Still Rollin with The Tide.

I’m so grateful for a great season and didn’t expect them to win 12 games. I’ve known that the time is 09. Utah beat us like a drum because, they wanted to be there and we didn’t, MSU would have done the same thing to us if we had taken them so lightly. I look forward to McElroy or Jackson in the backfield next year; these guys have sparks and will be dangerous for any defense. JPW did a good job but was never a threat but, the two new kids are lethal and can burn you with legs or their arms and coupled with a multitude of great backs, “watch the f$## out”! The O-line will be solid and we will miss Smith and Caldwell for sure however, look for lots more speed up front. Don’t F-with Saban, the guy knows football. Let’s pick our heads up and admit that we got our asses handed to us. This is more than likely what we needed to keep us focused and not underestimate anyone in the future. Because they are not in the SEC doesn’t mean they can’t smack the piss out of us if we aren’t prepared.

Roll Tide Roll!
