People...It Is ONE Game
It is amazing how some so called fans are ready to jump ship over one game. I say let them go. Let’s look at the facts.
Fact #1- Utah is a very good team. Their QB was spot on and when you run into something like that you are in for a long night. Our DB’s are not as good as Utah or UF’s receivers- RIGHT NOW. In time they will be. By the way I’d love to see Utah play UF.
Fact #2- It actually could have been much worse. I’m sure when were down 21-0 with 3 qts. to go Utah was thinking they could make a real statement by hanging half a hundred on us. Thankfully we didn’t quit.
Fact #3- Even though we played a bad game against a good team we still had a chance to win in the 4th qt. That shows you the heart of this team.
Fact #4- Our team is young. Actually I was somewhat proud of the way they responded to being down by so much so early. I saw frustration but I did not see anyone quit. These guys will be back and they will remember this loss. It will motivate them in the off season.
Fact #5- We don’t lose that much by losing this game. This was not a championship game, not a conference game and we will likely finish # 6 or #7 in the polls. We will only drop 3 spots at most and it will be our best finish since 1994. Obviously you want to win every game you play but this loss is not a devastating loss. It only seems like a terrible thing because people think Utah is no good.
Fact #6- Our best days are ahead. We had the #1 recruiting class last year. We are presently ranked #4 in recruiting for this year. I think all our commits are pretty solid and will not let this game change their mind. We need to sign these guys and a few others and then we are going to really be good. We think the 22 we sent out there to start Friday night were the most awesome players since the 92 squad. Let me tell you, the 22 we start next Sept., as a unit, will be better athletes than the 22 we started Friday. Do you remember that when signed these guys Greenwood was 3 stars, Wilson- 3, Caldwell-3, Stover-4, Oakley- 2, Marlon Davis- 3, Walker-2, McCall- 3. These 9 guys averaged less than 3 stars. We are going to be better with the 4 and 5 stars we signed and are going to sign. I can’t say we will have a 12-0 start next year, because some of the games we won this year (UK, UM, LSU) were close and could have gone the other way. But we should be 10-2 regular season and after that who knows. We have a favorable conference schedule next year, and there are many new and inexperienced coaches on our schedule. There is not a game on our schedule that I don’t think we can win. Coming into this year I thought we absolutely could not beat Clemson, UGA, LSU, and AU. Our biggest problem next year is going to be getting a starting QB to play like a veteran. (Which we will do- just wait and see how good our new QB is going to be..)
We lost a game. One game. Our program is in good shape and the future is very bright. Those freaking out by this game need to just get over it. Those bowl less Aubies and Vols from the safety of their living rooms proclaiming us to be a fluke have no idea about what is in store for them. UF lost to Michigan last year it didn’t seem to mean much this year did it?

Great points...
…and I totally agree. I still don’t understand why people don’t think Utah is a very, very good team. I have said many times since the game that I too would love to see them play Florida. You forgot the one important senior in this group who didn’t have ANY stars and walked on at Alabama – Rashad Johnson. Anybody who says these 9, plus all the freshmen that played didn’t do an amazing job this year can just STFU IMO. Looking to our future, it’s so bright, I have to wear shades.

Utah was a very good team
but we did not play up to our capability against them. For me, that is the most frustrating part. We should have given them a better game. We had fewer than 250 yards, I think. Maybe fewer than 220 yards, which would be pathetic for a BCS team against the Baltimore Ravens, let alone Utah or any college team.

Absolutely correct ...
The only thing that really bothers me is the fact that we got OUTCOACHED in this game. And, I feel this way for two important reasons:
1) We didn’t commit to the run. And, this is really the reason our rushing stats were so low. When we went down by 21 so early, McElwain practically abandoned the run for the pass, which was ineffective thanks to the pass rush we couldn’t stop with our rejiggered OL. Why didn’t we run more screens, shovel passes, etc.?
2) We didn’t make the necessary adjustments on defense. Actually, we DID make them in the 2nd quarter — showing blitz and then falling back into coverage, which seemed to totally confuse the Ute QB — but them abandoned them in the 2nd half.
We obviously got outplayed by some very talented players on the Utah squad. But, I can’t help but feel that we got outcoached in this one as well due to the points above — as well as other details I just don’t have the heart to go into.
However, I too am VERY optimistic about the next few years. If CNS stays with us for awhile, we are going to be perennial championship contenders, and we should be placing a new statue on the walk of champions soon

Bandwagon fans.... GO AWAY!
How many Bama fans would have said that if we had won 10 games this year we would have a great year. How about most all that were being honest with themselves. It’s a bowl game, that most all fans, and everyone else in the sporting world believed that we would show up and win. The sad part is that I believe that our players did too, and Utah was much better than they everyone expected other than the Utah players and coaches.
Give Utah credit, they were fired up and ready to play, where as we were flat footed and looked like a dear caught in the headlights. They wanted the game more, period.
As far as next year, I agree with Vicki, the future looks bright and the right coach is in place to continue on the path of success.
So I pose a question to all you fair weather fans. Do you think that any other coach would have gotten so much out of the players there this year? The answer is no. So, shut up, simmer down and realize its one game in the process. We will be back, next year and the year after that, and the year after that, and the Tide Rolls on and on.
Well, are you gonna pull them pistols, or whistle dixie?

I hope that wasn't directed at me
I have been a diehard Bama fan for 40 years — the entire 20 years before I graduated from the University of Alabama and the entire 20 years since. I was trodding the sacred soil when Bill Curry was the coach, for God’s sake. And, I’ve lived through the ridicule of residing in other power football territories (Texas, Georgia) during the times that we outright STUNK in the late 80s and 2000s, but I have ALWAYS worn my colors with pride … practically every day of the year. So, if you are calling me a fair weather fan you are just plain wrong.
In any case, I don’t need anyone telling me to shut up or simmer down. If I have something to say, I have every right to say it. That’s what a blog is, a discussion. Hell, I have usually been the voice of reason and positive thinking on this blog — and on the RBR Radio Hour. I am sure that Todd and/or OTS will back me up on that.
In any case, I didn’t say that the team sucked or we should fire the coach or some dumb shyte like that. I simply said what is demonstrable fact: we got outcoached in this game. Does that mean that I believe Wittingham is a better coach than Saban? Hell, no! The fact that Coach Saban did the best job of any coach in the country this season is also demonstrable and undeniable. But, just like the title of this fanshot says, it is ONE game. And, in this ONE game, we got outcoached; simple as that.
If you don’t like what I wrote or disagree with it, you have a right to say so and to argue the opposite point, just as I have the right to argue mine. But, no one but the adminstrators of this blog should feel like they have the right to tell a long-time member and regular poster to shut up.
That said, everything else in your post I agree with. Anyone that gives up on Bama just because we barely lost to the team that will probably be the national champions and then got beat in a BCS bowl game after losing two key players on the OL is an idiot. And, we don’t need or want them. As I said in my post, I firmly believe we’ll be planting a new statue outside the stadium very soon. Roll TIDE!

Man
I was talking about the people out there…and there are many, saying they are embarrased by the game and will not support Bama again, etc. I even heard people saying it as they left the Sugar Bowl.
