The Tide in 09

Now that the Sugar Bowl is over we can finally focus on the up coming season. We exceeded all expectations this year with spectacular play on both sides of the ball. This year will be better than last because, we will have a more experienced ball club all around. Our speed will also be phenomenal on offense and we will have a very dominating defense. Smith and Caldwell will be greatly missed for sure but, for what we loose we will gain in areas that will be more than comparable. Don't let the Sugar Bowl have any influence on the up coming season whatsoever. We now have an almost complete Saban team and we will be able to see the difference in play and attitude. I don't foresee any coke deals on campus or armed robberies, just a great group of kids ready to play football Bama style. The reason that we have varmints from other sights in ours is because of fear, they know deep down inside what they are in for years to come. They knew this when we hired CNS (two years) ago and now everyone else is trying to play catch up only after (two years). We all know why we lost to Utah and we aren't going to make excuses, they were the better team January 4th for whatever reasons. This Sugar Bowl will be remembered and that is true however ,once we start whipping ass it won't seem so bad.

Speaking of o-line

Im looking forward to seeing our line next year. Yes the 08 line was special but not all that talented aside from Smith and Caldwell. Mike is a great guard and will be the anchor next year. If you noticed when teams blitzed us they had success from the right side. And with the guys we have coming in and guys who sat the bench this year, the over all talent level will be up from 08. Replacing guys like Smith and Caldwell is never easy. So i expect growing pains to start out the season but eventually those guys will mold together and form one darn strong unit. Just remember what we thought about this unit in June….

Also i think its obvious that the QB situation will be an upgrade no matter who takes over. I have been a JP fan since the get go but he had his time. I really want to see Star get his shot but im thinking McElroy will be the man to start things out. Just dont be surprised if Star gets a few snaps here and there..

One more thing. If i never see Karreem Jackson take one more snap on the defensive side of the ball, ill be a happier man. I am praying some of these amazing freshman step up and take the starting role.

wow

look at you guys jumpin all over Kareem. he’s been solid since he’s been a freshman, and one or two big plays given up here and there doesn’t discount everything he’s done his first 2 years. but then again, i guess he’s LOOKED solid compared to everyone else since the cupboard was so bare before. now that CNS is bringing in top notch talent, we’ll get to see how good Kareem REALLY is.

i give a pass to freshman

A two year starter i hold to a much higher standard. And its more about HOW he got beat. Its one thing to lack the skills necessary to compete but is forced to due to depth or attrition. Jackson has the skills he just isn’t putting them into practice. He was straight abused by Utah’s reciever Brown and again by UF. He missed tackle after tackle and was out of position on a number of times. In fact he missed the tackle on the 3rd and long play that gave Utah 30 yards and a TD to answer our 3rd quarter TD. Its time for these big time recruits to step up and take over some of these spots.

true

he played horrible against UF and Utah. and back to back missed tackles leading to a TD was inexcusable.

Tide in 09

Has anyone heard the status of Kerry Murphy? Will he play next year? Also, I have noticed Alabama has dropped in the overall ranking in recruiting. I hope we can get 1 more 5 star and possibly 3-4 more 4 stars.

really?

I checked rivals today and were holding at #5.

we were

at #4. SUC has passed us now. it’s ok though. we didn’t have any big commits at the all star games, but i think NSD will be bigger for us than for most other schools. hopefully Dre, Massie, Randle, Patterson and Patrick all come on board.

Next Year

Am I the only one that has concerns about next year? We saw what happened when we lost our all-world tackle. It looked just like the Auburn game in 2005. It seems we lose a team leader at every position. We had the most dominant offensive and defensive lineman in the nation. Hopefully, we get 1 back. I know the overall talent of the team will continue to increase but with a new quarterback and a new o-line, I am not sure that we won’t struggle next year. Also, is there anyone on the roster that can step up and be a dominant pass rusher? It seems like we have not had anyone in this area, lately. I hope I am wrong. It was a great season, but the loss hurts pretty bad.

I worry about next year

As I heard some guy say on Finebaum a month or so ago “This year was a bonus.” The timeline in my mind has always been having the ship righted by 2010. A lot of people have talked about 2009 being “our year” but with a rebuilt O-Line and a new QB, I don’t see that being the case. I kind of fear the raised expectations this year will bring. I’m sure next year will be superior to ‘07, but I don’t look for it to be as good as ’08.

O-line

i’m more worried about the O-line than anything else. it’s hard to believe that our O-line will be just as dominant without Smith and Caldwell (both AP 1st teamers). not so worried about QB if McElroy steps in. kind of reminds me of Matt Flynn stepping in after being a backup for 4 years (or is it 3 years?). i think he’s experienced enough to be able to step in as a game manager QB like JPW. hopefully he’ll be able to throw a better long ball. if not, i’m hoping that Star shows tremendous poise and upside in taking the starting job.

Yeah, but

out schedule is gonna be much easier next year. I can’t remember right off hand, but I know I thought ’09 might hurt us ranking-wise because of a weak sos. Then I saw the ’10 schedle and remember thinking, “This looks tough”

by rolltidefromaz on Jan 5, 2009 9:18 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

There is no way the 09 schedule is easier then 08

I expect the SEC to be MUCH better than this year. If Alabama goes undefeated, I will be more shocked than when we did this year.

Scout #10

There have been a few commits over the weekend during the HS All-Star games and according to an updated Scout.com site, Alabama has dropped to #10. I think we can get back in the top 5 after NSD. Any word on which whay Dre Kirkpatrick is leaning? Any updated on Kerry Murphy? Any word on how DeVonte Boldin did in JC this past season?

by akbrown15 on Jan 5, 2009 3:17 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

yea

i don’t know what’s up with that. Rivals has us at #5 and Scout has us at #10. that’s a big difference.

Kerry Murphy

is enrolled in the University of Alabama.

dre kirkpatrick

all signs point to dre signing w/ bama, starting opposite javy from day one. from hearing him speak, it sounds like tejas is also in the chase. however, he has a son, girlfriend and a stable/influential family in gadsden. hard to imagine he’d go too far from home.

Muschamp

I have seen that he and Will Muschamp have a good relationship. I didn’t know that he already had children. I guess that could help as far as keeping him in state. According to Tigerdroppings.com, LSU believes they will get two out of the following three…Dubose, Randle, and Kelly. DuBose went to UF over the weekend. Do they honestly believe they will get Randle and Kelly? I do not. Even though he has suspect speed (4.6-4.7)…I really like Pat Patterson. He has the best hands of any receiver coming out of HS. He made a great catch in the Army All-American game. He is big and would be a go-to target on third down to compliment JJ. Any thoughts as we definitely need a reciever to step up and help. Mike McCoy disappeared this last year.

Most

LSU fans believe they will get either Randle OR Kelly, whichever one goes to ‘Bama the other will go to LSU. I’m hearing Kelly has soured on ‘Bama, thats ok if we get Randle but not if we don’t.

AK I don’t know for sure about Murphy but, I’ll look into it, I’m kinda curious. Also, I wouldn’t worry too much about recruiting so soon, CNS hasn’t even warmed up in that arena yet. My guess is we wil wind up two or three after all is said and done.
