Two questions - on/off topic
No. 1 -- All year I heard Alabama's success attributed to one, having a senior/experienced quarterback and two, having an offensive line that was not only talented, but had logged several games together. Caldwell in particular said the experience together as a unit made all the difference. How much should the lack of both hurt us next year? I think you can win with a green quarterback, provided he doesn't have to shoulder too much of the load. I'm more worried about the line. The guys we have coming in are talented, but inexperienced. I think that inexperience will show up more on the o-line than any other area. Thoughts?
No. 2 -- Has anyone else seen the commercial for the Snuggie? It's the blanket with arms. I'm completely creeped out by this thing because the people wearing them (especially the wine colored model) look just like those people in the Heaven's Gate cult. Get a Snuggie and some black Nikes and you're ready to catch the next comet back to the mother ship. I am legitimately scared of something called the Snuggie. Am I the only person who sees this?

1. O-line will need to grow up fast against VT. However we do have all spring and fall practice too. And remember in practice they have to block Cody, McClain, etc.- not an easy task. I look for spring practice to be brutal along the lines. Because of that I think Carpenter could crack the line up but not D.J. since he won’t get in unitl the fall. Still, this is one year you kinda wished you started with a cupcake instead of the defending ACC champion. I’m not sure how VT will be up front on D, will they have veterans etc., but it could be that our D will have to carry us some to win that game. After that we should get some experience in easy games before we take on Arky at home. Home field will be big in that one. Our first SEC road game is UK (I think) and I ought to be ready by that point.
2. The comerical is strange to say the least but they are selling a dumb product in my mind.
You make a good point:
Not every O line goes up against a defensive front like ours every week! That will give them some experience they wouldn’t get at other programs.

I almost bought one for my wife because she's always cold...
but I reconsidered. If you are so retarded that you drop your book, spill your coffee, and get pissed off about it all because you were under a blanket and couldn’t get to the phone that was sitting 6 inches away from you, then a Snuggie won’t help your problems….

Virginia Tech
has a lot coming back next year if my memory serves me right. They have a couple big wide receivers, a monstrous tight end, a stud tailback, and, if I’m remembering correctly from the Orange Bowl against Cincinnati, very young players on the line of scrimmage.
VT
1. well, tech is known for Beamer Ball (winning with defense and special teams). if the game turns into a defensive struggle, i’ll take CNS in a big game on nat’l tv. but our O-line is the question mark for sure. it sure would help to get bobby massie in this class. if he’s as good as advertised he’ll either start or at the least provide depth.
2. that commercial is hilarious. i just saw it for the first time and it’s basically just a robe. hahaha. ridiculous.
exactly
Thats what my wife said last night. Its just a freakin robe!!
When you are an Alabama fan you are expected to hate Auburn, I hate Tennessee because I want to.
Don’t the people at the football game make you laugh!? Can you IMAGINE wearing one of those to BDS? I don’t care how cold it was, I am NOT putting on a Snuggie, much less letting my whole FAMILY put on Snuggies! Geez.
and you can pick from these subtle colors...
Bright Freakin Pink
Bright Freakin Red
Bright Freakin Blue
or Bright Freakin Purple.
That way, you won’t look like a psycho murderer when you’re on a family trip to the ball game.

Continuity
1) I think the important thing — and the lack of which is what hurt us in the Sugar Bowl — is continuity. Our OL players have to log snaps playing in the same positions with each other in order to play at their top form. If you look back over the recent years when we had OL struggles, even with Andre at LT, our OL was constantly being reshuffled. With the spring and the fall under their belts, I think the OL will be fine. And, I think that our QB play will be an upgrade if we can only get someone who can hit the deep ball.
2) Hey, I just realized that if I put my boxers on backward I can pinch a loaf without taking them off. The world needs to know about this! I’m going to be rich!

just wait till
the hole isn’t perfectly aligned….gewwww

Better yet,
why not market boxers with holes on both ends. That’ll really save you some time and effort in the loo!

Talent
1. I think the experience factor can be overblown. I’m not saying its not important, especially at QB, but I think the talent factor is key particularly in CFB where the playing field is far from equal. I use USC as an example, every year they lose guys to the draft, some seniors, some going early. It doesn’t seem to matter because the guys right behind them are either as talented or more so. So in summary, I think bringing in the top level talent year after year is a bigger key to long standing success than just having guys with experience.
2. My wife laughs her ass off every time they show that commercial. And the snuggie company seems to have bought up the airwaves too.

^^^^^Talent
1.) We are losing experience but, the overall talent pool is much deeper. Meaning we will have stiffer competetion for those positions. I do not think it will be as dominant but, we are getting our depth back.
2.) I am a little disappointed that the snuggie was not more popular on this board. I mean How many times have you been so hungover that moving becomes a problem. You finally muster the energy to pack a bowl….of ceral and the dang blanket falls off. Now you have twice the work you planned on. I am thinking about ordering one for each place I watch TV and the PLUM for valentines day :).
Auburn fans are like slinkys... not really good for anything but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.
embarrassing admissions are over till next season..

I
can see your future:
V-day night, candles lit, lights dim, rose pedals on the floor leading to the bed, bathroom door opens and the wife appears wearing nothing but a plum colored……..
SNUGGIE!!

Hmmm...
…I know he’s not very experienced, but if McElroy starts, we’ll have a senior QB again next year. As far as the O-Line, I think it is very important that Kerry Murphy is able to go through spring practice with the team. We will almost certainly have at least one true freshman on the line, so any continuity will help. That being said, I believe we will have more talent on the line in 2009 than we did this past year, but obviously less experienced. If that means we struggle early but shine late, I’m all for it, since we still play our most important games later in the year.

certainly somebody's gonna have to step up
with boswell, cardwell, d.davis, m.johnson, b.jones, t.love, b.motley, t.pharr, d.ross, w.vlachos, dj fluker, j. carpenter, and maybe kerry murphy and/or bobby massie, i damn sure hope they can bump heads long enough for five of them to rise above the rest. i only included fluker out of the incoming freshmen b/c he is an absolute silverback. the guys w/ the least talent have already seen playing time (ie ross and motley), so maybe the young studs can bump up the level of competition and we can end up w/ a line full of hogs a la the eighties redskins. either that, or we could see some more holding penalties, off starts and blindside hits on the qb to totally turn me into a belligerent alcoholic. we’ll see.
Well, I feel somewhat better about the o-line,
but I can’t believe no one else thinks of the purple death shrouds of that suicide cult when they see the snuggie.
You know, not many of us were alive then or can remember the whole Jim Jones episode, which is the origin of “drinking the Kool Aid.” I even thought we might could update that saying to honor the suicide cult of this generation. For example, one might say “McElroy looked pretty good when he saw action this year, but I’m not ready to wear the snuggie just yet.”
On second thought, that might be stupid. And bammer would have to change his awesome avatar. Kool Aid forever.
shut up!
1. i choose to exercise cognitive dissonance with regards to that issue.
2. the snuggie looks like the the dumbest thing i’ve ever seen. we have been ridiculing it at work for a few weeks now.
