The Top Ten Alabama Moments of 2008: #9 - Cody Leads the Way

Terrence Cody was a legend at Alabama the moment he signed his LOI, and the 6'5" 380lb nose tackle lived up to every ounce of YouTube and blog driven hype on the defensive side of the ball by helping shape the Bama front seven into one of the best run defenses in the nation. Imagine the surprise and delight of Alabama fans when Cody sauntered onto the field against Ole Miss as a fullback (:22 mark) to lead Mark Ingram in for a TD on 2nd and goal. Sadly, Cody would suffer a knee injury later in the game and we wouldn't get to see this much improved version of the dreaded "Jumbo Package" again until the Iron Bowl, but it was still a thrill to behold and hopefully we'll get to see more of it next year.

"sauntered" is one way to describe it

I thought it was more apt to say he skipped onto the field. He looked like a kid going to the lollipop store. Yes, please more next year. The two main plays in my illustrious playbook were a toss to Julio or bring in Cody for 4th and short yardage. The Kiss principle.

I called for Cody in the Sugar Bowl on 4th and 2—why the heck not, it is a bowl game??—but that is just ME. I am a gambler and I do NOT have a career and reputation riding on it! Would have been fun to watch though, wouldn’t it, if it worked?

It will definitely be top 10 next year..

..when they actually give him the ball. I hope it will happen at least twice in Atlanta-in two different games.

How about the ‘wildcat’ formation with Cody taking a direct snap! Now THAT would bring the house down!

As nice as that video is...

It still pisses me off that we almost gave away a 24-3 lead…

When you are an Alabama fan you are expected to hate Auburn, I hate Tennessee because I want to.

I stopped...

…being pissed about beating Ole Miss a long time ago. I’m still pissed about beating LSU, though. And don’t get me started on MSU or Auburn.
