Dilemma
The day of the BCS Championship game I find myself in a dilemma. As a former UA student/athlete I know that I should always back the SEC conference and stand behind the Florida Gators. This only strengthens our conference and our beloved university. However, I now live in Florida and many of my friends are Florida grads. Let me tell you, their cocky attitude is out of control. Their football aptitude is almost non existent yet since they went to school at UF along with having a dominating program, they think they are entitled to be the alpha and omega of any football discussion. My neighbor actually has a Gator emblem tattooed on his arm, yet when asked to name ANY coach pre Steve Spurrier he sat dumbfounded. (and he is 37 years old) Heck, even I can name Charlie Pell, c'mon! This is the Gator nation! They are (in my opinion) clueless about any football knowlegde from tradition to X's and O's yet get to see their team kick a$$ week in and week out all the while rubbing it in anyone and everyone's face. Welcome to my world. So in order to keep some sense of sanity I look at tonights game as a WIN-WIN situation. If the Gators win, the SEC conference has taken three straight NC's. If the Sooners win, then maybe...just maybe it will bring some of the folks (around here) back to the ground. Thanks for listening.
FanPosts are just that; posts created by the fans. They are in no way indicative of the opinions of SBN and the authors of Roll Bama Roll.

My thoughts exactly...
i live in LA, and the several FL fans (recently converted i might add) that i know are just way to arrogant. I would like to see the see win and all…blah, blah, blah, but if the gators lose i will certainly make sure they are aware of it.

UF...
…is a bigger recruiting threat to UA, and we will never play OU in the SECCG. I still think the ’turds will win, but I will root against them with all the rootiness left in my rooter.

Yep^^^^^^^^^
F sec bretheren. I want Alabama to win a MNC and it will be harder to pull recruits out of FL if the win a MNC. I will cheer for the SEC during the season for SOS solely.
Go Sooners.
Auburn fans are like slinkys... not really good for anything but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

Its
funny how tasting the promise land can quickly change attitudes. I wonder if we would’ve had the 7-8 season we were supposed to, and not come within 15 minutes of playing in this game ourselves, would we feel the same? My contention is no.
But I agree with you. I saw a similar thing when I went to the Bama/FSU game in freakville a couple years ago. FSU had alot of young, cocky clueless fans.

If we were 0-12...
…I would root against UF in this game. However, I will also be rooting against OU in this game, so you see, I’ll have a slight conflict….

I'm pulling for...
…the tip of Florida to break off into the sea, sucking both teams and their fans down to their doom.
Is that wrong?

...tip of FL
If you define the “tip” of Florida as below I-10, I agree (even tho I have 2 good friends and in-laws that live in that area…neither are college football fans, so it doesn’t matter). Also, if no one is there to see it, does it really happen?

FSU/Bama in Jville
I was also at that game and actually went with a FSU grad to the game. I was ok until after the game someone of which I did not know was doing the tomahawk chop within two inches from my face. However, Noles fans are finally coming to the realization that they are no longer relevant…but I agree, they are clueless also. That was the biggest win for FSU in quite some time when “Bowden beat Bama”. So it wasn’t surprising to see their fans act as if they had just won the Super Bowl. Gator fans are just down right cocky and think everyone should kneel at their feet.

2nd that
My neighbor had Gator parties every weekend and I normally walk over after or before the Bama game and I must say, hair gel is of the essence! Everyone is wearing the TEBOW FOR HE15MAN skin tight shirts. Get this…listening to techno music during time-outs and at halftime. I know what your thinking…“these folks are gay”, but seriously its just a different way of thinking (girls actually like them)…I think it could be the Southern Yankee effect…. I have lived here for 10 years and am still trying to figure it out.

i know people down Bama bangs a lot...
but it’s a whole lot better than the gelled-up “Urban Meyer/Tebow” style cut…

Take a trip to FL and you will see that EVERY male FL fan has one…and a Tebow jersey on gameday. I feel so awkward around a big group of them, like they might kiss me on the cheek after a nice football pass.

I
remember when we arrived and went to the tailgating section it was overrun by ‘Bama fans. Then as I’m walking out of the stadium, thinking to myself “god I hope Wilson doesn’t start next year,” the FSU fans start coming out of the trees. They were everywhere man… coming out of the sewers, from the sky, you name it…. I need to be careful… like I’m having Nam flashbacks…

I agree
Friday night, the Landings was nothing but Bama fans….Saturday night….FSU fans were EVERYWHERE….too funny!
However, Bama fans took it like champs that night….no one went home and sulked we gracefully said “good game”, and kept going. I was proud that night of my Bama brethren.

Just go for OU.
Don’t be fooled into thinking that UF winning a NC will benefit Bama. And what is this junk about being loyal to the SEC. It was the SEC (and a few of the schools helped like UT) that got Bama in trouble. And once UF (Spurrier) was crying to the NCAA about us too. Plus in general the SEC office sets schedules and has tried to give everyone open before Bama.
I’m telling you OU makes more sense from Bama’s point of view. We made the SEC, but by in large they hate us and many of the schools (especially UT, UF, AU) would do anything to see us on probation again.
And I feel for you if you live in Florida with these Gator fans.

Preach on.
My dream is that one day soon the SEC will be considered as weak as the ACC or Big 10, with one, big, Crimson-colored exception. Yes, I miss the seventies.
by NiceLittleSaturday on Jan 8, 2009 4:15 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
really?
so you want to get snubbed out of a title game like other teams from weaker BCS conferences do? being in a strong conference gives us not only the luxury of being able to lose one game, but also being picked over other teams from weaker BCS conferences (that’s unless they go undefeated of course).
by CSon on Jan 9, 2009 1:27 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Penn State...
…would have played in the BCS title game had they not lost to Iowa (according to most ‘BCS experts’). Texas and Texas Tech had one loss in an overrated yet still superior (to the Big 10) conference and missed out…Texas Tech even missed out on the BCS altogether.
Maybe I don’t want the SEC to smell as rotten as the ACC, but I wouldn’t mind seeing LSU, UF, and UGA struggle the way Auburn and UT did this year. Not at all.

Spurrier!
I was just beginning to ease up on the Gators from the hate from the Spurrier years….absolute HATE!!! The fans, players, CHOMP THIS you…..anyway, then I start listening/reading their stuff post SECCG game and I am right back where I started! They just think that there is no way they can lose this game tonight, and they might be right, but the absolute lack of class with which they carry themselves around our part of the country is a disgrace!
We were taught to support the SEC. That is what we are “supposed to do.” What are they doing for us by winning OR losing tonight? Win and we have a harder time getting recruits in their area. Lose and our conference takes a hit. So which is more important to you? Alabama’s recruiting or the SEC’s pride? Does that help?

I don't know what it is
but football can bring the absolute worst out of people. I would like to tell you that the behavior you’re describing is specific to Florida fans, but having lived in the Southeast, Midwest, and West Coast, I think it’s a condition that affects everyone.
It is just a game, but the cockiness that imbibes fans of certain teams is enough to make you hate those teams.
Try to tune it out. I know that’s hard, especially when people who talk a lot of trash end up beating “right” because their team wins (and you’d love to see their team lose just to see them with egg all over their face), but in the end remember this: their team might have won, but they are still lameass losers.
If that doesn’t help, find the one thing that you have that is better than anything they have and flaunt it. It could be your significant other, your income, your car, your genitalia/body parts, etc. Make them feel insignificant.

true dat
tOSU fans have a bad reputation as well. and lets not forget SUC fans. being out here in the West Coast, and having to see and hear SUC fans every day of my life, i’d say they’re just as bad if not worse than Florida fans. arrogance oozes out of their skin. with a tint of gay Hollywoodness. they’re the absolute worst. they’re so damn proud of their program and school that you feel like you’re being s**t on just talking to them.

SUC
fans are very arrogant. I have met only one that really knew and cherished football the way Southerners/Midwesterners do, but other than him, I meet a lot of fans that disregard the rest of the college football world. They have a monster of a team that seems to win twelve games every year, so what can anyone really say to them? That’s the worst part. Too bad they don’t know how obnoxious they come across, but again, I’ve seen a lot of different fans show their ass at the first sign of success. USC didn’t start selling out games until the midway point—maybe even the end—of the 2004 seasons. Think about that.
Heck, I got my MA at USC. Other than Bama, they should be the only CFB team I’d root for. But I honestly think they need to go 7-5 one of these years for some humility. They deserve to just so they can know what it feels like to be average for once. I can’t stand it when fans of certain teams think “their” program is beyond a mediocre or losing season. Like the cocky protagonist in Iron Maiden’s Coleridge’s “Rime of the Ancient Mariner” they show no respect for their environment (CFB, in this case). Too many USC fans show no respect for the game by thinking this way.
But hey, it’s habitual. I’m sure there was so very arrogant talk in Tuscaloosa when we were undefeated earlier this year. At least we had our suffering through the DuBose/Fran/ Price Shula years.

cheaty petey
They have a monster of a team that seems to win twelve games every year, so what can anyone really say to them?
actually, there’s lots to say. for one, SUC plays in a weaker conference with no conf. championship. then they prance to the Rose Bowl and beat up on a Big Ten team. they do this every freakin year and the media loves them for it. two, with all the talent they get, that’s what they should be doing. actually, what they should be doing is winning championships, not losing to teams like Oregon State, Stanford and UCLA. but think about it. CA, TX and FL are the 3 states that are known to have a huge pool of talent. Texas has to compete with OU for recruits. Florida has to compete with Florida State and Miami for recruits. SUC, since cheaty petey got there, has had to compete with no one. UCLA’s finally giving them some competition with Coach Neuheisel now at the helm. but SUC’s been able to hand pick all the talent out of So Cal. and they haven’t won a title since Norm Chow left. cheaty petey is definitely not a coach that does more with less. he does average with more. and i haven’t even mentioned all the crap that goes on at SUC. scandals, crime, lower admission standards. there’s a lot of stuff that goes on but they never get punished for it. Bama almost gets the death penalty while SUC gets to do whatever they want because the media, NCAA and even law enforcement just love SUC and cheaty petey.
aside from all this, not only are their fans arrogant and ignorant (they think the Pac-10 is the best football conference), but as you mentioned, most of their fans are bandwagoners. a lot of their fans are just LA sports fans who root for them because they’re “good” now and there’s no pro football team to root for in LA. once they start sucking, all their “fans” will disappear.
anyways, that’s my bitter (i’m bitter because i’m surrounded by these bozos) rant for today. ROLL TIDE!

don’t you ask them, since they’re so good, how they manage to choke every year?
Also, as a Saints fan, could you ask them to take back Reggie Bush? We decided we changed our minds.
