Crimson Tide Recruiting Update: Weekend Guests 1/09 - 1/10
Y'all wanted some recruiting coverage, so here we go. Tuscaloosa will host 16 recruits this weekend, half of which have already commited to the Tide. The other half that hasn't committed includes several VHT types including five star DB Dre Kirkpatrick, LB Tana Patrick, and WR Kendall Kelly, all guys that Bama fans are slobbering over in anticipation of National Signing Day.

I don't know if we'll sign...
…all of those receivers if they do want to come to Alabama. We already have Bowman, and we’ll probably go hard after both Kelly and Randall with the assumption that we’ll only get one of the two.

Just
saw on al.com that Rueban Randle is in fact, NOT going to visit Auburn this weekend. He has rescheduled his visit to Feb 4th. Maybe he’s coming to T-town instead…?

Thats the 2nd to do that today...
Atchison switched his commitment to Alabama from Auburn after the resignation of Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville. Atchison made the change after having a lengthy conversation with Alabama coach Nick Saban.

Any word on the 2009 Yea Alabama?
I know it’s early, and it won’t be until well after Signing Day and probably well into the summer, but I’m trying to organize my anticipation of things like that, A-Day, Signing Day, etc…

I'm not sure if you noticed....
…but we didn’t get a whole lot of production outside of Julio this year.

really??
Sarcasm aside…im talking about this class. Is Randall THAT good? If he was wouldn’t he be a 5 star?

WR is kind of like OL...
…when grading them since its hard to judge how they will do against college defenses. Unless you are a total freak like Julio, its hard to get a fifth star split wide.

I am still
holding judgement on out current WRs until I see another QB throw the ball to them. I have a hard time believing that they sucks as bad as there production numbers let on.
Auburn fans are like slinkys... not really good for anything but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

The QB play...
…and our run first mentality is certainly an issue, and I think Maze, Alexander, and Hanks are all going to be big play threats downfield when we have a QB that can get them the ball, but we need some explosiveness to the offense and having big physical receivers like Julio that are both great recievers and just flat out beasts both coming over the middle and in run blocking are priorities.

Rivals
has Randle as the #1 prospect in the country, of course a 5-star. I trust Rivals, they had that Terrell Pryor guy ranked #1 last year and he did ok this year for a freshman. Also Randle had 7 catches in the high school all star game he played in last week.

WR Position
The wide receiver position is pretty much where your athletes come from. These guys are usually great athletes, and a lot of times you will see them eventually play other positions (think Ezikel Knight at LB or Chris Jackson at CB).
Also, despite what some people believe; Coach Saban would prefer the offense to have more balance. He has played with a bunch of multiples at different places, especially LSU. The fact is in today’s game you need to be at least 5 deep at the position if you are going to have a balanced offense.

Cox, Patrick
we need these guys bad. we’re recruiting them to be the Jack LB (LB/DE combo position). these are the guys we need to rush the passer more effectively.

This Weekend
This is going to be the biggest recruiting weekend that we have had all season. The one player that I am really interested in seeing is Darren Myles. He is the prototypical free safety, and would be a great addition, with Rod Woodson. There are a lot of people who feel this class could potentially have the same type of impact as last year’s class.

This might be stupid...
But is Rod Woodson somehow related to the Rod Woodson?
