Feelin' Good

Guys,

Despite all the trashing of the Gators in the "Dilemma" fanpost, I am feeling really good after Florida's win in the Fedex BCS National Championship Game brought to you by "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter." (OK, I'm trying to meet the 75-word limit).

I was feeling down about ending the season with 2 losses. But, after the game last night I got to thinking. To whom did we lose? 1) The National Champions, and 2) the only undefeated D1A team in the nation. Also, barring a couple of errors by players and coaches, we could easily have won both games.  Gotta tell ya, I feel pretty good about that.

To top it off, guess who scored more points on Florida than the vaunted Oklahoma offense? Bama did!!

Roll Tide!!

Ditto...

…but it was still hard to watch them win a 2nd NC in 3 years. I know our time is coming, but patience is not one of my virtues. The SEC came out of Bowl season looking pretty good for a supposed “down” year.

Can’t wait for NSD and A-Day!!!

True

but its also encouraging to know that we belonged on the same field as them. We came within 15 minutes of being in that game last night. The Gators have accomplished great things recently and if we want to replicate that, then we have no choice but to compare ourselves to them. And to know that we almost beat them is very encouraging to me, especially given where this program has come from.

My sister thought it up...

…and made it her sig immediately after the Iron Bowl, so if there’s a bumper sticker, someone stole it and is making money off it. LittleSis, we missed a money making opportunity. Damn.

Also

Urban Meyer is a douche. I watched the game in a bar – with lots of Scotch Scotch Scotch – and all my bama friends were there. Unfortunately, there was a table of Gator fans, and I have to presume they are bandwagoners because they looked and smelled like Aubies. Come to think about it, they were doing the gator chomp before the game, and we know Aubies are really good at doing that!

I

agree, he does have a rather douchey quality about him.

It wasn't

It wasn’t “trash talking” the Gators. It was an honest assessment. Anyone who doesn’t down right have a dislike for the Gators either a. Doesn’t Live in Florida or b. Never comes in contact with their fans.

Agree with feeling good.....

but also agree with holding my nose and cheering for the gators. I have to look at the logic of it, which is that we scored 20 and OK only 14, and as said, we only lost to the #1 and #2 teams, which is…… Oh forget it!!!! ITS SUCKS, it should have been us. We were sooooo close.
As for rooting for SEC teams in bowl games, yeah I do it, for Southern pride I guess, BUT making one exception and that is the barners. I wouldn’t cheer for them if they were playing Iran, heck I might even break out my guns and start shooting them in the air and start screaming for no apparent reason.
I truly believe it will be OUR turn next season. So where’s the MNC game at next year so we can start making plans!

Well, are you gonna pull them pistols, or whistle dixie?

i was thinking the same thing too. but then i realized that OU’s pathetic (i use that word loosely now) defense only gave up 24 points to UF while we gave up 31. so it doesn’t really say much.

and we played them closer than OU did.

actually, not to be negative, but we lost by 11 whereas OU lost by 10.

but regardless, the fact that we were able to hold our own against UF in a dome (where speed teams have more speed because of the turf) even WITH a lack of talent, depth and speed shows you how good of a job Coach Saban and staff did. i really believe 2010 is going to be the year. that will be Coach Saban’s 4th year. the same year he won a championship at LSwho.

by then, the Jack LB and nickelback will be in place. i say this because in my opinion, those are the 2 most important positions in Coach Saban’s defensive scheme (he’s well known for his coverages out of the nickel package). looking at those 2 positions this year, the Jack LB barely got any pressure on the QB let alone sacks. and the nickelback (Marquis Johnson) got burned deep consistently. once Coach Saban has the personnel he wants at those 2 positions, the defense will be much improved.

also, by 2010, the new QB and new O-line for ’09 will have a year of experience under their belt.

the schedule is more favorable in ‘09 than in 2010, with most of the tough games at home. but i think Coach Saban and staff proved in ’08 that this team can play well on the road. i’m going to have a modest optimism for this year, but i’ll definitely be looking forward to 2010.

Agreed

I think we’ll contend in 2009, but players will be too fresh in important positions such as QB to go all the way. Bama should be a BEAST in 2010!

Does it not concern you

that you are losing your QB and RB?

I’m not trash talking, just wondering. I wonder the same about UGA fans who somehow think they are going to be better without Stafford and Moreno.

If Tebow and Harvin both leave, I will be very concerned about our offense next season.

by skigator93 on Jan 10, 2009 11:41 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

yes and no

John Parker is not exactly Stafford. and Coffee is not exactly Moreno (not to say that Coffee is mediocre or that Moreno is vastly superior, but Coffee definitely benefited from a great O-line). i’m more worried about the O-line more than anything.
