WARNING--Spurrier has NEVER been anyone's Homecoming date before!
If Bama has any illusions about being able to skate through next Saturday against South Carolina, think again. I bet the Ole Ball Coach is singularly pissed to be Bama's Homecoming date and will be ready to pull out all the stops to teach us (nad everyone else similarly situated) to never disrespect him like that again. I have to admit that when I saw the schedule, I just assumed that Chattanooga was our Homecoming wench. Whose idea was this?

Whose idea was this?
Someone who wanted the folks coming back for homecoming to see a real football game instead of a scrimmage?
Spurrier doesn’t scare me any more. Still a hell of a football coach, and he can still sneak up on folks, but I think he’s gotten a bit soft in his old age. I’d take Meyer or Saban straight up over Spurrier any day to coach my team.
I'm wrong all the time.
I'll bet when he was at Duke
he was a homecoming date a time or two.
I agree with Pete. Even if SC had UF’s talent I think Spurrier is not the coach he was in Gainesville.
Doesn’t mean this one is automatic, but Spurrier has not even threatened to get SC to ATL. in his first 4 seasons.
However, if he turns it around beats Bama, then UF, and goes to ATL and wins the SEC this year then I would say he is up there with Coach Bryant who was able to not only win at Bama but at UK.
I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.
Whoa...
…easy there, man. Let’s not get too carried away now…

Seriously
Chill out there. Spurrier and Bear should never be used in the same sentence unless “…is no where near as good as…” is involved.
36-0
Spurrier is done
Sure, he’ll still outcoach some opponents, but he doesn’t have the talent at USC East to compete for titles. His ego got the best of him – he probably felt that his system was so dominant, that he could win (at least in college) anywhere. He revolutionaized the game in the SEC in the early 90s from what was once an old school run-first conference, and the SEC is still benefitting from it, but the fun-n-gun is pretty much dead.
We can thank Spurrier for allowing our conference to leave the Big 10 in the dust for nearly 2 decades now -since they are still playing the old school 2 yards and a cloud of dust offense. But he sort of reuined his lifelong legacy by evolving into a shell of his former self.
I really don't
think Saban or the Bama players care about homecoming. Yes, South Carolina knows they’re the homecoming game, but its not the motivation certain bulletin board material could be (that Saban would never allow).
exactly. Just another game on the schedule.
What you're seeing is team spirit. It's like the Holy Spirit, but more powerful.

I seem to remember a homecoming with Miss St back in the 70's...
and they spoiled our event.
Got that winning feelin'
Recheck...
…your memory. We never lost to MSU in the 70s. We beat them every year from 1958 (Coach Bryant’s first year) until that shocking loss in 1980 at Starkvegas when Emory Bellard ended the wishbone’s invincibility (which was somewhat appropriate, since he practically invented it). I was just a boy, but that loss still haunts me…it’s the day I realized that Alabama didn’t win every game they played.

Right score...
…wrong teams. Bama won 35-6. Bad source. Try here.

I dont't think the time...
…or TV station it’s on makes it a trap game. The fact that it’s coming off of two road games, one of which we knew was going to be a mega-grind (Ole Miss) and that it’s the week before Tennessee makes it a trap game.
Mississippi State was homecoming one year
Late 90’s, early 00’s. Can’t remember exactly. Jackie Sherrill was still there.
