Ricky and JT at Oxford
Apparently JOX FM sent Ricky Rant to Oxford with an intern and a recording device. Personally I think Ricky is trailor trash and I hate that JOX is giving him air time and encouragement, but that's their prerogative. Anyway, they mentioned that a bunch of Alabama fans wanted to get their picture taken with Ricky. I find that disturbing. We should be shunning this guy, not celebrating him. It also came up in the JOX segment that JT Bowtie was at the game, and supposedly he didn't get a warm welcome from the bama fans. I like JT, so it seems backwards that he's getting a cold shoulder while that trailer trash Ricky is being adulated.

The difference is...
…Ricky is a dumbass, and JTBowtie is a dumbass, who feigns wealth.
See the difference?

name calling is name calling
It is just as wrong for JTBowtie to say “white trash” as it is for Ricky to say the n-word.
Personally, I am not fond of either one. Ricky shouldn’t have said what he said, and JTBowtie shouldn’t have said what he said.
To pretend that what one said is more inflammatory than the other is ludacris. Get off the fence.
Those who praise/downplay one, while chastising the other, are just as ignorant as the two of them.

first off there is a difference between those insults.
But my my point was how stupid it is to be glorifying Ricky.

well, to quote from Urban Dictionary
White trash- an individual that may or may not be poor, but is monumentally ignorant and quite possibly stupid.
Nigger- used as a disparaging term for a member of any dark-skinned people.
So aside from the historical and cultural significance of nigger, one of these insults is a reference to something that you have control over (being trashy) while the other is not (being black). In our society it’s more taboo to insult people over things they have no control over. For example, mentally handicapped people might have very similar symptoms to crack addicts, but saying “Man, I hate retards” is more offensive than saying, “Man, I hate crackheads”.
What you're seeing is team spirit. It's like the Holy Spirit, but more powerful.

Well...
…that’s one definition of ‘white trash’…here’s another:
(slang) an offensive term for White people who are impoverished
wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn This definition is the more original and mainstream one, though both are accurate meanings for the term. Ironically, ‘white trash’ is a term that has generally been used by white people for other white people.
Of further irony, by the mainstream definition, I definitely come from ‘white trash’…yet am infinitely more disgusted by hearing the ‘n-word’. I think it’s because I’m used to hearing it from people I think are monumentally ignorant and quite possibly stupid.

like you say a conditioned response
the point is they are ultimately the same, and therefore equally offensive, and should be equally shunned.

I agree...
…that they should both be shunned…but I can’t agree that they are ultimately the same, you know, since they’re not.
