Mark Ingram for Heisman? Well why the hell not?

Check out...

…Maze’s block at about the :20 mark (and again at the :43 for a different/better angle). Nothing fancy, but it takes out two players and ensures the TD. I love having a former TE coach coaching our WRs.

Agreed...

But also, Julio’s block at about the :50 mark is quality as well.

+1 and...

I’m partial to Hank’s block on #41 for Ole Miss on that same play. Hanks got the DB on the ground for just long enough to create the alley for Ingram. It’s great how he and ’Lo used two different blocking techniques, both to equal degrees of effectiveness.

Because the media

wants Tebow and if UF wins out the story will be about his bravery and heart etc.

Here is hoping he loses to Arky and cries again. This Arky team reminds me some of last year’s Ole Miss team that beat UF- good QB, no respect, nothing to lose.

I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.

by 5026 on Oct 12, 2009 6:37 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I

really think the Arky D has improved since the UGA game. This year in CFB there just aren’t very many complete teams. UF is one, we are another maybe VT as well. But if the D plays decent that game could be interesting. UF is not the same offense it was last year. I don’t know if that has to do with Mullen leaving, or their WR issues or whatever but its just not the same “scary” juggernaut it was in 2008. Hell it wasn’t even that scary when we played them. They ran up crazy numbers against LSU, UGA and So. Car. but you look at their last two games, us and OU, when they had to play teams good enough to keep them honest, it was a much more even affair.

The main challenge

for Ingram will probably not be his performance, but rather the fact that he wasn’t “pre-picked” by the media. Over the last 6-8 years, the winner was at least mentioned at the start of the year.

To be honest...

I’d be disappointed for us to break our Heisman record as it stands: Zero.

me too...

the Heisman count at Bama was part of the Aflac trivia question during one of the games this weekend, and I was proud to announce it was “zero”. Something about being a “team” team that appeals to me.

The

recognition for the player is nice but I can’t think of a more meaningless award in all of sports than the Heisman Trophy.

Why the Hell Not, Indeed!

While I agree that the tradMedia wants Tebow again this year, nothin’ says we shouldn’t start campaigning for Ingram now so that, maybe by his senior year, the Heisman powers that be will notice a truly fantastic ball player.

Let’s do this folks! It’s ridiculous that BAMA has never had a Heisman winner. Start contacting the major papers in your area.

I hope we never win a Heisman

some traditions aren't so great

we brag about our all-americans, butkus award and outland trophy winners, but don’t want the biggest individual trophy in the game? i think not. Just because we’ve had players who deserved it but were slighted by blatant media bias, doesn’t mean we created a “tradition.” i will not celebrate that disregard for our success

…and I will, too.

EXACTLY

Coach Bryant celebrated the fact that Bama never had a heisman winner. Of course Coach Bryant did have a heisman winner, just not at Bama. Maybe this is a generation thing among the Bama nation, but I hope we never win one.

by I hate UT on Oct 13, 2009 4:10 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Bryant had no choice

He celebrated it because it was the only way to give the finger to a skewed system. Deep down, he would have loved to have seen some of his boys rewarded in that manner. Now that the media has started to head to that horizon of objectivism, I would love to win that award as my way of giving the middle finger to all those who slighted us back then. Once again, I will not celebrate a “tradition” of having our hands bound by a subjective media that clearly favored the Big 10

I think that's a weak argument.

perhaps that's a valid point given the way it was phrased...

but there’s a seed of truth within it.

you should consider the comments above pointing out the efforts by the other players in the highlights of that video. ingram does well partially because the rest of the team does well. and, when it’s in the interest of the team, he’s shown no qualms to do what needs to be done.

a platoon of superstars looking to pad their stats so they can take home hardware does little to help the team as a whole. and that frame of mind is very much part of our tradition.

To elaborate, we pull for and brag on our players that win individual awards such as the Butkus award. So why shouldn’t we do the same for any Heisman candidates?

I agree that our goals should be team goals, not individual goals. But if individuals can rack up awards while working for the team, then all the better. Not having a Heisman is nothing to be ashamed of because the game is all about the team, but I don’t think we should wear that as a badge either.

What you're seeing is team spirit. It's like the Holy Spirit, but more powerful.

well, i see your point...

but ask yourself what an publicity campaign like tennessee has rolled out for eric berry would do to the chemistry of the team, not to mention the distraction it would represent. but that’s pretty much just the heisman, most other awards are pretty much on merit and you don’t have the same level of BS surrounding them. and, plenty of bama players make a habit of garnering them at the end of the season.

Look at it this way...

…Here’s a list of QBs who have won the Heisman: Troy Smith, Eric Crouch, Gino Torretta, Andre Ware, Vinny Testaverde. Another thing they have in common? They didn’t win the national title the year they won the Heisman.

Here’s a list of QBs who have not won the Heisman: Jay Barker, Steadman Shealy, Jeff Rutledge, Gary Rutledge, Steve Sloan, Joe Namath, Pat Trammell. Another thing they have in common? They did win the national title, and all at the same school. That’s not to mention Kenny Stabler’s undefeated 1966 team.

I also like to think it’s no coincidence that Tebow won the title last year, but not the trophy, while in 2007 he won the trophy, but not the title.

One is about hype, the other is about substance. One is about me, the other is about us.

Notre Dame plays politics, not us. Of course, I’ll be happy for Ingram if he does win, which he won’t. Good song, though.

Well I know this

has no impact on the final results but how about creating some of our own publicity and voting for Ingram here

<http://promo.espn.go.com/espn/contests/theheismanvote/2009/index>

Its sad to see how little our impact players like McElroy, McClain and Ingram have been rep’d. Take a second and vote and remember “Limit one (1) entry per person or valid e-mail address per day regardless of the method of entry.” So that means every day you should take a second and pay back Ingram all the joy he provides us ; )

i'm not sure how playing into some espn promotional nonsense

does anything to increase any of these player’s chances on netting the award or marks some kind of standard of our fandom.

as I sad in the

first statement ’I know this has no impact on the final results but…" I do however think that the media (ESPN in this case) is reactionary. And if Ingram were to get overwhelming votes, ESPN would then start talking about Ingram more, increasing the likelihood of him getting the award.

It has not been said yet so here goes our standard line:

At Alabama our players do not win individual awards, our teams win championships. Of course our players do win individual awards, but all of these fail in comparison to the Heisman (at least as far as the tv viewing audience is concerend). I would take another NC over a Heisman trophy any day. Heisman campaigns are crap. Take a look at Need for Snead.

It has not been said yet so here goes our standard line:

I don’t think it needs to be said. You couldn’t find one player on our roster who would trade a Heisman for a championship. Players want to win championships and have an opportunity to play at the next level (NFL). I don’t think I’ve ever heard a 4-5 star recruit say they went to a particular school because they had a really great PR department.
