Tennessee Hate Week: Fondest Memories Open Thread
As soon as Roman Harper popped that ball loose...
As we gear up for Hate Week, why don't we all share our fondest memories of this storied rivalry to get things started off right.

I've said here before
that the first Bama game I ever went to was 2005 Southern Miss with “The Catch”.
This game was number two. The three loudest moments I’ve heard Bryant-Denny were all in this game: the fumble, DJ’s catch, and the game-winner. Louder than Caddell’s catch, louder than anything against LSU or Auburn. This game was so huge given the way we played that year and it is what turned me into a Bama fan.

I'd have to agree...
…the ‘05 game was the first Alabama game I had ever attended and that place was ROCKING! Even though most of us hate UT, they’ll always hold a special place in my heart simply because they were the first team I had ever seen fall to Alabama in person…. I also remember going to the game and wondering, “why do these guys hate Tennessee so much” before realizing the truth behind all the hatred not too long after that game.

I have to agree
I was sitting in the endzone when Roman made the hit and the sound of the crowd was deafening. Strangers hugging each other and Vol fans crying like babies. I would also add Demeco’s game sealing interception to the list of loudest moments from that game along with D.J.’s catch and the field goal. Best Rammer-jammer ever.

I'd also like to suggest
this clip, which has Eli Gold on the call, rather than they who shall not be named.

1990
Doyle launched it at the end. Stacey Harrison blocked a UT field goal to set up the winning attempt. A year after we started 10-0, we stumbled out of the gate with a new coach but the returning vets on defense held down Andy Kelly and Tennessee and we found a way to win.
MATRIX: Bennett, I thought you were--
BENNETT: Dead? You thought wrong. Ever since you had me thrown out of the unit, I've been waiting to pay you back. Do you know what today is, Matrix? Payday.

2002
was also nice. Ending that dreadful streak in Neyland was the best part.

If you're of my generation...
…1990 is the greatest win vs. UT. Starting 0-3, UT ranked…what, 2nd? 3rd? No one (even most of us) really thought we would win. It’s the night that Gene Stallings really became our coach.

Orange jerseys?
Any word on whether or not UT is going with the orange jerseys?

Alabama denied Tenn's request to wear the home jerseys.

thank god!
I don’t want to see that much puke orange in our stadium…

1993
A lot of fans left the stadium early, and David Palmer had one of the greatest comebacks I have ever witnessed first-hand. It is odd since the game ended in a tie, but everyone thought we lost that game.

Two Games come to mind
The first (we lost) was the 5 overtime game in 2003. Even though we lost, it was a crazy overtime that I’ll never forget.
On the postive side, I would have to say my fondest memory was the year before (my freshman year), going up to Knoxvegas for the first time and seeing Beard and Watts “Running through the T”.

2003....ugh
With each additional OT the announcer would say “more free football;” then the Bend but Don’t Break Defense broke on 4th and 19. I would like to forget that one.

1993
It was a tie, actually. But we were losing most of the game, and there was a particularly noxious Orangeer in front of me, drinking, cursing, waiving his arms about… Finally, someone got a security officer to sit next to him and get him to behave. Meanwhile, Alabama drove down for the TD, and Palmer ran it in to tie the game. The look on the UT fan’s face was just spectacular.
Two years ago was pretty good, too.

My fondest memories...
…the look of defeat on their faces almost makes their stadium bearable to sit in.

I've never been to a game in Neyland,
but between that guy and Lulu and Junior, I’d imagine it would be unbearable to sit in.

But notice!
Only 1 out of 13 people in the picture is oddly proportioned! So that means that only 100,000 / 13 people are fat, which means .. crap… you know what, division sucks, so let’s just say he’s the only fat person at UT!

you see, bobo...
you don’t combat a real pic with a photoshopped one. That “A” is just a little too… non-curved, let’s say… to be real. And believe me, it should be curved, a lot…

1990 and 2005
…are two that stick out particularly in my mind. I can’t even tell you the emotional state I was in during the 2005 contest when it looked like they were going to punch it in at the end of the game. I was a wreck. Then Roman Harper made himself a legend….
Another favorite of mine was 2007 when we beat them like a drum. That was the only time I ever sat in the student section for a Tennessee game and it was a lot more lively and colorful than usual.

2005 is definitely the one I remember most..
Being only 21 and having to endure that dreadful streak of theirs for most of the time when I first got really interested in the game I didn’t see many wins. So ending the streak in 2002 was good but 2005 was great. And despite the disappointing season in 2007, that was a great win due to it being my first year as a student here and first expirience with the atmosphere in the student section during a rivalry game. Ahh…good times.

Rutledge to Wheeler 1973
All week leading up to the game, I’d been hearing about how this year UcheaT was going to stuff the wishbone. They were primed and ready to shut down our one-dimensional offense. Then on the first play for the game, Wheeler catches a strike and runs for an 80 yard touchdown…and the 42-21 drubbing was underway.

Yep
That was my first taste of orange blood. I was 9 years old. We lived in Scottsboro, surrounded by a number of Tennessee and Auburn fans. UT fans lived 2 houses down from us. First play from scrimmage, Rutledge to Wheeler, 80 yard TD. I bounded out of the house, down the steps, and up the street screaming, “Roll Tide! Roll Tide! Roll Tide!!” It was awesome.
2nd memory. My boss took me and my dad to Legion Field in 1979. I was 15. Bama was down 17-0 in the 2nd quarter. My boss was a farmer—quiet deacon type. We sat on the 50 yard line (never had seats that good, before or since). After getting down 17 points, my boss stands up in the middle of a deathly silent Bama crowd and starts yelling at the top of his lungs, waving his arms, and screaming to the crowd to get behind the team. I swear he got the crowd back into the game and we scored just before the half to make it 17-7, and went on to win 27-17. I never would have believed if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes. The power of this hate rivalry can make a grown man do strange things.

Hate week just isn't
What it used to be when the Great Pumpkin was on their sideline. Though I’m sure I’ll grow to hate Kiffikins eventually…instead of just laughing at him.

2007 was my UT game in person...
I transferred into UA the year before, and hated how UT slowly beat us in 2006.
I loved the 2007 game. The entire time I knew we were going to win the game, we were in total control. As the game wore on, we got better and better in the game.
Sadly, it was the last great game for us until the Clemson game. I know we won the bowl game against Colorado, but that was a sloppy game and we could’ve lost it as well.

The 2005 game was a religious experience...
…and nothing comes close to topping that for me in this rivalry. Then there’s 2002, ending the streak. But I’d probably say 2007 comes second to 2005, because I was at that game, and we started off with an onside kick. That was an exciting play call, and we dominated the rest of the game. It was also the beginning of what should be another long streak. As for 1990, I was too young to take notice. 1994 was a GREAT game.

1989 Bama 47 - Tenn - 30
This was my first Alabama game that I was at. It was awesome, Legion Field was absolutely rocking that day as Siran Stacy made the Vols his bitch that day. I still remember the shuffle pass from Hollingsworth to Stacy – one of the greatest plays ever.
