I am NOT happy with Alabama
If the media reports are accurate and UcheaT asked to wear their orange jerseys and we said no, I'm bummed. We're supposed to have a sense of tradition and history, and that's part of what sets Alabama apart from the lesser lights of the football world. Well for those of us old-timers, part of what made the third Saturday special (and for Heaven's sake how hard is it to schedule that game on the right day?) was seeing the red and orange clashing on the field.
Don't know if this was the coach, the AD or what, but I wish we hadn't turned them down. And regardless of what color they wear, I hope we send them back to Rocky Flop with their tails between their legs...again.

Saban probably said
“You want us to give up a _ timeout!? What the ______ ______ is this ______! Get the ____ out of my face!”
MATRIX: Bennett, I thought you were--
BENNETT: Dead? You thought wrong. Ever since you had me thrown out of the unit, I've been waiting to pay you back. Do you know what today is, Matrix? Payday.

NCAA ditched the timeout thing this year. No penalty if both schools agree.

Then Saban must have had another reason
Maybe he didn’t want to give in to something Tennessee initiated

evidently UT could have worn the jerseys if they took a 15 yard penalty on the initial kickoff. Kiffen said no…

Agree.
It may have been tradition, but I hate their puke orange jersey. By the way, back in the day their jerseys were stil ugly, but not as much puke looking.
I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.

The only thing I hate about it is...
having to see those puke orange jerseys live in action in OUR house.
After spending seven wondrous years in the state of Alabama, never in my life have I seen fans, who claim to be loyal to one team, spend more time AUbsessing over the other more so than they do their very own.

Kiffin speaks the truth?!
The Vols’ request had been approved by the SEC. They could still wear orange and take a 15-yard penalty in each half for doing so, but they are planning to wear usual white road jerseys.
“We’re not good enough to do that,” Kiffin said.
This might be the first time since he’s been named head coach that Kiffin has said something intelligent and truthful.

Unless his boss ordered him not to with no ifs, ands, or buts..
I think there’s a good chance they’ll wear ’em anyway.

i personally love it.
bryant-denny stadium is not the place for gimmick nonsense. if you want to make a statement, you have one hour to do it with your play on the field. not the color of your jerseys during the run through.
the fact it will stick in the craw of vol fans just makes it that much more wonderful.

and i'm completely unswayed by the "tradition" argument
there have been a hell of a lot of different uniforms worn by both teams in the history of the rivalry. returning to one jersey in use a few decades ago is no more sensible than suddenly using one from… say, 80 years ago.
this is nothing more than a crappy gimmick that demeans the contest itself (much like the bronco’s puketastic throwback uniforms currenty on display on MNF). it’s stupid enough to have these “black outs” and “blue outs” and whatever the hell that involve the fans. i’d prefer keeping the bullshit off the field itself.

It also should be noted
that Kiffin and Co. probably wanted to use the orange jersies to draw attention to their cause and look cool (if one could possibly look cool in an orange Tennessee jersey). Lane wanted to act like an ass to bring attention to Tennessee in the off-season and now he wanted to wear orange to get the attention Alabama would be receiving for being the number one team playing at home.
The only way I would have been for this idea, considering these details, is if Saban had proposed it. Since it was Kiffin/UT’s idea, it’s better to reject it.

It’s not a crappy gimmick to me, it’s what I grew up watching. Call it nostalgia if you will, but I’d like to see it again.

Blahhh
I could care less if we wore skirts and they wore heels…we still have a football game to play and that’s the most important thing. If we win, or lose, not a damn person is gonna mention anything about what was worn after it’s all over. I hate puke orange too though, but I gotta be honest and say that I think texas’ burnt orange is even worse. It’s like cheese toast that’s been cooked waaaay too long. Maybe we can beat all 4 of the orange bearing azzholes this year. Tennessee, Aubie, UF, and the much overrated longhorns. Yeah, maybe we can rid the whole country of the worst shades of orange. Is it too late to schedule Boise st for next year?!
It's not the will to win, but the will to prepare to win that makes the difference.

Decision is Process-oriented...
Just another way to dominate your opponent and make his ass quit! Albeit in a slightly more passive aggressive manner than usual…

There’s nothing passive-aggressive about saying “No, no you can’t wear your orange jerseys.”
I'm wrong all the time.
by PeteHoliday on Oct 20, 2009 8:34 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
wouldn't it be if the motivation for saying "no" was left unstated or if some patently false rational was provided instead of just saying "no, because we dont want to agree to anything that will make you happy"?

The phrase “passive-aggressive” is so over-used these days. None of those things are passive at all.
The “passive-aggressive” move would be just ignoring the request — a pocket-veto of sorts. “Oh, sorry, I must not have seen that email. Sorry guys!”
I'm wrong all the time.

Remember...
Tennessee denied a request from the Barn to have a “Tiger Walk” when Auburn visited Knoxville a few weeks ago. Not that I’m in favor of sticking up for the ’Barners or anything…but if UT is going to be jerks about denying opposing team requests, they deserve to have the shoe on the other foot.
