The University of South Carolina football team will wear uniforms with a camouflage design for their November 14 game against the University of Florida, three days after Veterans Day.
An announcement was scheduled Tuesday by USC and the University of Maryland, the other school participating in the display. The effort will honor those who have served in the military and promote the Wounded Warrior Project.
The black with tan camouflage uniforms, designed by Under Armour, will have a Wounded Warrior logo on them. Instead of players' names, the backs of the jerseys will have words such as courage, loyalty, integrity and service.

That is awesome.
It honors the troops (both past and present), raises awareness for injured soldiers, and looks damn cool. I especially like the “names” on the backs.

Agreed.
I think it would be cool to see us participate in something like that, although the departure from the traditional uniforms would certainly cause an uproar among a lot of our fans. (I’m one of those who thinks we should never consider changing our uniform, but I’d be OK with it for a single game like this.)

Maybe a helmet sticker?

Helmet sticker
and the words on the back of the jerseys instead of player names, but keep the traditional Crimson. That would be a pretty cool tribute.

I’d be okay with a helmet sticker or a patch, but not changing the jerseys (I loathed the houndstooth neck trim a few years ago) or the names.

Agreed on the houndstooth trim
At the time, though, I was just thankful they didn’t wear 100% houndstooth jerseys.

I liked the trim
but only because it was such a rare departure from the traditional uni and the purpose was a fitting tribute to the man who has done the most for the University in the last 100 years.
My favorite “extra” in college ball is the unit patches worn by Army cadets.

Shit man...
Garcia is having enough trouble as it is…i hope the camo doesn’t make it harder for him to hit the WR…

I'm predicting a lot of missed tackles in that game.
And, oh how I wish Verne and Gary could call that game!!!

I would like us to have
uniforms that really camouflage us, like whatever that Blue team is with the blue field. They make my eyes hurt.
I can hear Verne now, “and it is complete to Cougar (instead of courage) at the 29 yard line.”

Hope the game is at night
and maybe SC receivers can hide from the UF defenders. They sure couldn’t get any separation against Bama, not even against Johnson.
But inspite of Spurrier I wish SC well the rest of the season.
I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.

Where is the hyper-sensitivity?
I can see parallels between football and war. I have no problems with any comparisons to warfare and sport, since sport has historically been used to keep men physically ready to do battle.
Why, though, is something like this OK, but at other times a coach/player is ROASTED by fans and media for making an ill-timed comparison between warfare and whatever sport in which they are involved.
The perfect example of this hypocrisy is the comments made by Kellen Winslow, Jr. back when he was at the U about being a “soldier.” He was castigated by the national media for being irreverent, inconsiderate, and an all-around jerk (which he may very well be). The VERY NEXT SATURDAY (and I obviously paid attention) announcers were calling quarterbacks “field generals,” lauding head coaches for the ways in which they were directing their “troops,” and emphasizing the importance of play “in the trenches.” It’s stupid.
I think this is a worthwhile cause and, although the jerseys look somewhat tacky (as most Under Armour jerseys do), a great thing to do to honor our wounded warriors. I am just shocked to see that no one has labeled it offensive. Maybe a few war protesters will sit on the 50-yard line.
By the way, I’m a soldier.
