My visit to Dreamland....and I wasn't even in Alabama.
Yesterday I stopped by Dreamland's Peachtree Corners, GA location (there are 2 locations in the Atlanta area according to their menu board) and had a fantastic lunch. I know they are famous for their ribs, but I was in work clothes and didn't want to chance going back to work with barbecue sauce all over my shirt. I had the chopped pork sandwich instead with a cup of stew and both were fantastic. The stew was a pleasant surprise - it rivals the best in town here. The sandwich was good, and it was huge - and that is the regular size.
I definitely need to make it back there for the ribs though. Also, I noticed they catered.....so any of you guys who might be in town say, early December, might think about having some familiar food at your tailgate. I'm sure it's not the same as the original, but it is pretty damn good.

I’ve only been to the Birmingham Dreamland, but I wasn’t all that impressed with their ribs. Of course I hear the original place is much better, so take that for what it’s worth. My favorite BBQ joint is the original Corky’s in Memphis.

Corky's (the original on Poplar Ave)
has the best Memphis style BBQ sandwich in the world. Got to eat it Memphis style though with the cole slaw on it.
For wet ribs the best I have ever had is either at Interstate BBQ or Neely’s in Memphis.
I ate at the Dreamland in Northport, only bc it is close to home and the ribs were so so. Some were way too dry and I think they threw in some old ones, while other were as good as the original Dreamland.

Not a big fan of Corky's
It is probably because I had it in Tunica at Sam’s Town casino. It was all-you-can eat and came with a draft beer – your choice of Keystone or Keystone Light. I saw at least a dozen people eating there (including some women) who would dwarf Cody. Watching 400 pounders pile ‘cue on their plates after they have just lost their entire paychecks in 20 minutes doesn’t exactly stimulate the appetite.

There's actually 2 on poplar
though they are pretty far from one another. I graduated from Rhodes College in Memphis, and my friend’s parents made reservations for our families to eat at “the corky’s on poplar”. Well, we show up and the people at Corky’s have no idea what we’re talking about. Turns out the reservations were at the Corky’s on east poplar, about 30 miles away.

Oh, yeah
the original is in what is called east Memphis although it is not really that far “east” anymore. I used to work next door at an outfitter and man it was tough to smell that stuff all day and not go get a sandwich. We had this guy from NY work for us one winter and he ate Corky’s everyday. He couldn’t believe it.

neely's interstate and/or topps > corkys
all three are good but interstate and topps are the best in memphis. at least based on my dozen or so trips in the last dozen or so years.
welcome to the SEC kiffykins...

I agree with Istate for ribs, but Corky for pulled pork sandwich
Topps is good but it is a very different style. I grew up in Memphis on BBQ and really you can’t go wrong with any of these.

I'm not too far from the Corky's in Collierville (east Poplar)
and the original one just somehow tastes better. If you’re in Memphis and have had your fill of bbq, give Gus’s a shot (there’s one downtown and another in Collierville). Best…Fried Chicken…Ever!
I’ve never really eaten bbq here and not enjoyed it, but Central BBQ is the best I’ve had anywhere.

t-town dreamland is the best but bham is good also.
Me and my friends all cringed once Dreamland started opening in Atlanta and other cities (Northport wtf?, mobile, etc.) and also when they started adding menu items. It use to be two choices half slab of ribs or full.
It really is all about the sauce. That is what makes it so good. I prefer the sauce from t-town. Usually pick some up when I get a chance on gameday weekends.
Honestly the other stuff on the menu is darn good too and I am sure the other locations provide almost as good food, but I am a purist and I will always order a half slab when I walk in unless with a friend then we are splitting a full slab and saving 70 cents.

I heard from a girl that works at Dreamland that they are all going to put the full menu at the original too. They already added two items, pudding and something else, slaw?

DAMMIT
They’re going to ruin it.
If your “Dreamland” has anything but ribs, drinks, and white bread its a damn abomination.

THIS
so much this. It sucks that you cannot get Grapico there anymore. There is something so delicious about ribs and that fake grape flavour mixing together in my tummy.

That is sound advice
As slaw is about the only reason one would ever go to a KFC.

Atlanta Dreamlands have a traditional bbq menu
I had slaw as a side, which was outstanding. My wife tried the beans and they were not very good. I don’t care if they add menu items, so long as what they are famous for remains top quality.
Having the extremely limited menu reminds me of Guthries. I liked it better when it was either box or plate. One item that they do well. Now they have salads, breakfast, wings, etc. I am not sure if any of that stuff is good or not because I still only get a box or plate. By the way, I know a lot of people like Zaxby’s, but to me, it is 12 notches below Guthries. their sauce is even a cheap knockoff.

They opened a Dreamland
in Baton Rouge for a while I think. It wasn’t open long. BBQ doesn’t seem to be very popular in south Louisiana.

when you go get barbecue is “Barbecued WHAT?!”

Not part of the Dreamland debate
But if you are ever in Roswell, Georgia and want bbq….. check out The Swallow at the Hollow . Some of the stuff is outstanding, although the rest is so-so. Still, there is a canoe full of beer bottles and ice with live music on the weekends. It’s across the street from Greenwood’s (southern comfort food).
I would suggest the link sausage, sliced pork bbq (or chopped if you prefer) with mac & cheese and the potato salad. Add in some buttermilk biscuits and you’re good to go…….. I might have to eat there tonight.

Aaaaaaaaaaand if you're ever on the Gulf Coast
I highly recommend The Shed in Ocean Springs, MS. Very, very good BBQ, and literally the best potato salad I’ve ever eaten.

Yes there are 2 Atlanta area locations
The other one is in Roswell, which is a northern suburb. I go by every so often just to buy jars of the sauce. I love it and keep a supply on hand for cooking ribs at home. Yummmmm

In ATL
it’s Harold’s down by the federal prison and that is it!
I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.

Not a fan of Harold's
I think it’s overrated….but it’s convenient if you are down that way visiting relatives at the pen. I used to like Benny’s BBQ the best (Johnson Ferry and Ashford Dunwoody), but since it closed, I’ve bounced around from pretty good place to pretty good place. I haven’t found a new favorite yet.
I have heard good things about the Swallow in the Hollow – need to give it a try. I also need to try Foxwoods on the eastside.

The real BBQ in...
Memphis is the Cozy Corner. In T-Town…Archibald’s no contest. If you’re in North Alabama go for some Whitt’s or Lawler’s. And if in the wiregrass go for Big Daddy’s (Enterprise) or Hook’s (Opp).

There is only one Dreamland...
And it involves white bread, beer, and a slab. Everything else is an affront to the name.
/had sauce airmailed to me for Valentine Dinner.
