Washington Redskins left tackle Chris Samuels will retire because of a severe neck injury he suffered in Week 5, according to a report.
Samuels suffers from stenosis, a narrowing of the spine that caused him to wear a neck brace for extra protection when he played, and was already dealing with significant knee pain all season, according to the paper.
ESPN: Washington Redskins' Samuels Will Retire
Sad news coming out of D.C. today, as former 'Bama All-American and Outland Trophy winner Chris Samuels will retire after suffering a neck injury. You hate to see him go out like that, but at least he's going out with his health probably as intact as anyone can reasonably expect when they play this game that long.
Nevertheless, hats off to you, Big Sam. You're one of the all-time greats, and you're still probably the best 'Bama player of my lifetime. Enjoy the retirement, and see you someday back in Bryant-Denny.

My wife and I used to live next to his g/f...
and got to hang out with him some. He’s a very nice guy and has a lot of class. He’ll do well in whatever endeavors he pursues from here.
I hate that his playing career’s at it’s end, but I agree with OTS in that he’s leaving while he’s still relatively healthy. Best of luck to him.
