We needed that...
Both the blocks, and to play like utter shit and still win. Begrudging hats off to the Viles; they outplayed us

totaly agree. Except for the fact that we won, you’d be hard-pressed to say we earned it. Depending outcome of tonight’s game, I will be shocked if we do not slip back off AP #1.
You can't win. You can't break even. You can't get out of the game.

Our defense looks so tired,
And that shit in the RZ to end the half completely took the sails out of our offense. Mac looked crisp, folks were running hard, playing hard, he was stepping into throws, putting zip on the ball etc. After that sort of give-up series, we never got on track again.

Honestly...
Were you happy in ‘07 when we took a lead into the LSU game and then blew it the last 5 minutes? How can any team that considers itself a power be happy with moral victories…and that defense is going to be decimated with graduation. That was Fulmer’s baby, not Lane’s.

Senior quarterback, senior offensive line
Berry will probably jet for the NFL and their other top defenders are seniors.
Still, they’ll be a worthy adversary because of Monte. I don’t want to see that Assclown son of his succeed.

Or that you could get five or six "give me" holds on Mount Cody in order to enable

Good win, ya'll.
That’s how the game is supposed to be played: two teams going at it and giving it their all. I’m very glad they didn’t call the flag on Cody at the end, let the players play. Damn I’m sick though, a Lincoln at normal form (he looked injured) we might have won this game. If’s don’t win crap though, good game.
But we gave ya’ll a better game than you thought, right? No 100 yards for Ingram ;-)

Dear Terrence Cody,
In Jackson, Mississippi I stood in a street and yelled your name—scratch that, I screamed it. My friend texted me a brief message, and it just said “Cody.” And on RollBamaRoll, people were saying they were going to name their kids after you.

I hope the Bama defence finds a way to defence the bootleg if they find their way to Atlanta.
I hope someone makes Johnathan Compton look better than we did today.
I hope we find our way to better play calling in clutch situations.

I have my doubts
I am still trying to figure out if it is all qb play or if some of it is playcalling. While McElroy hasn’t been good (although he was not as awful today as he was last week) I am not sure he is always put in the best position all of the time. I thought the play calling right before the half where we settled for a fg was atrocious and did we run the wildcat once in the third quarter? I have been a big Coach Mac fan but between this week and the ole miss game I am starting to see some things I am not thrilled with.
Godalmighty...
what a ball game. I had a fit, a cow, and a heart attack all at once.

…a dead ball? Does someone have to make contact to make it a dead ball? Could UT have picked it up and advanced it? Is it like a punt? An incomplete pass?

by NiceLittleSaturday on Oct 24, 2009 10:09 PM CDT up reply actions
After watching the replays, in all honesty, it should have been a dead ball. It’s a 15 yard penalty, but since Julio had possession, it would have been 15 yards toward our end zone, still our ball. We would have taken a knee with the remaining second and the result would have been the same, 12 to 10, Alabama.
It would depend...
1 second left when the kick was made… blocked and covered by Bama. Game over. If it was unsportsman-like conduct, the rule is you can’t remove your helmet during the game; clearly it was over. No ticks on the clock. But I can see where this could be a stretch….
With the no calls on holds and I think a pass interference no call in the end zone, I wouldn’t think pressing this penalty would be a valid fight.

Final Thought RE: UT
Surely, it occurred to someone else, that for the past ten years, those were exactly the kind of games we lost…It’s going to take a while to re-instill the spirit that we’re not going to lose these kinds of games…Shula-Dubose-Fran beat me down with defeat.

Alabama Great............. and Lucky
On Alabama’s part, the entire game was about the worst play calling offensively I have ever seen. There were plenty of examples the whole game, but the most glaring, 2nd and goal, at the two, they are just smashing Tennessee’s defensive line out of the “wildcat” to the tune of 7.5 yards a carry on that drive, and they throw two really questionable passes.
If they score that touchdown instead of settling for the field goal, the field goal try by Tennessee at the end would have been a mute point.

Flag
After all the heat the SEC refs took over the week,I’m sure they a were little gun shy to throw the flag after all that emotion spilled forth after the block.
all in all...
this squad did a decent job. there were some pretty bad no-calls but they seemed to be evenly spread throughout the game and between the teams. the key calls that had to be made were made and, for the most part, they let the let the two teams play football. no matter how you want to break down this game, the refs were not a deciding factor.

Glad for Cody, best game he has played
We best be thankful for Cody and the defense. Tennessee whipped us in the 2nd half (i hate TN and hate to admit it) and they scored only 7 points. They had 5 scoring opportunties and we had only four. The way our offense played in the 3rd quarter left our defense on the filed the whole quarter and much of the second half. If we don’t do better we will lose at least one game. GMac didn’t play too bad, we had some drops and poor play calling hurt us. Stupid red-zone calls (almost like Spurrier last week) really hurt us. We were wearing their defense out and then we throw twice from the 4. Glad we won, we best play better in November or we won’t win the West.
Baptman
When we took over near our goal line with about 5 + remaining
Ingram almost broke one long for a touchdown. If he had just gone down for 8 or 9 yards when he fumbled, we probably would have killed the clock because they were out of timeouts. I know Kiffin mentioned that they outgained us by 80 yards or something, but a big chunk of that came after Ingram’s fumble.
We had eight straight games, many of them against tough, defensive teams who brought their best against us. We held on for dear life today after failing to put them away (fumble, TD, onside kick) but we held on.
8-0 is all that matters. And remember, Tennessee HAS a veteran team. This is not a rebuilding year for them. In 2007 they had the third best recruiting class and in 2005 and 2006 they had good classes also. They might be 3-4, but they’re talented.
Let’s see them dominate in 2010 when they lose their quarterback, top running back, top receiver, their entire offensive line, and most of their defensive stars.
Again, I respect the Volunteers, but don’t forget. This was a good Tennessee team. Next year they might be rebuilding.
MATRIX: Bennett, I thought you were--
BENNETT: Dead? You thought wrong. Ever since you had me thrown out of the unit, I've been waiting to pay you back. Do you know what today is, Matrix? Payday.
Ingram
I haven’t seen this mentioned… but anyone else think he was banged up? He looked good carrying the ball, of course, but most of the time when he wasn’t involved in the play he was on the sidelines. Though he didn’t have nearly as many carries, I think Richardson was actually on the field more.
I know we don't really care about the numbers...
but I work with a whole bunch of a******e Texas fans who would like NOTHING less than to see us lose. They were blowing up my phone during our whole game.

Remember last year,
I can’t remember if it was Florida or LSU who faked an injury because his chin strap broke. I just read this in the rulebook: “Feigning an injury for the purpose of gaining additional, undeserved time for one’s team. An injured player must be given full protection
under the rules, but feigning injury is dishonest, unsportsmanlike and
contrary to the spirit of the rules. Such tactics cannot be tolerated among
sportsmen of integrity.”
I didn’t know about that rule, but do now.

Just got back from the game. That was the most intense game I’ve ever attended. After the Cody block, my section, the stadium, and just everyone went absolutely buck wild.
Best BDS atmosphere ever. I will never forget this day. We will be ready for LSU. And you could tell that UT prepared EXTREMELY well for us.
Hats off to the Vol fans in attendance. All were cordial and great sportsmen.
That was...
…definitely the most intense ending to a game I’ve ever attended. I was jumping around in circles after the final block.
And the atmosphere was awesome. The crowd definitely helped the team today. Makes you feel great to be from Alabama.

Hope we find the O during this off week.
I’m still tortured over the fact that the only TD in this game was by ut.
Agreed.
The sad thing is that in ’05 we would have given Darby the ball when we needed 2 yds inside the 5….and would probably have gotten it.
It’s criminal that our O produces so little given some of the talent we have on that side of the ball.
wait a second.....
1 penalty for 10 yards
