Offensively Speaking...

Are any of us any closer to answering the reason for our lack-luster offensive performance as of late? I like McElroy and am hoping he can pull through this. I believe Saban is alright with a low scoring game, being a defense master-mind, but he has shown concern over our red-zone performance.

Looking at our first five game's team, the average offensive production yards and total yards allowed is 378/390 respectively. The last three game's team, the same figures are 363/279, showing a significant strengthening in the opposing team's defense.

With that in mind and the future looking more like the latter teams (except for Chatt.) where does our focus need to be placed?

McElroy still has his job because we are 8-0

If we weren’t then Star Jackson would be in there getting his reps. McElroy is unable to throw the ball vertically down the field. He is unable to make accurate reads with any type of pressure. He constantly forces the ball to Julio and then completely over looks him when he is open?! It’s pretty sad when you wish John Parker Wilson was back in there. In short, we will not win the SEC championship if McElroy doesn’t grow some balls and get out of his little tiff. He needs to man up and hit a slant or two over the middle. He needs to hit horizontal runs across the field and let our players make some yards. He needs to completely forget about the fade route because he absolutely sux at it. He is downright horrible at it. He MUST stop staring down his targets. I know were winning BUT HE IS REALLY BAD. He is dreadful in fact. He is the weakest link on the entire field and the entire world knows it.

I would start Star Jackson against LSU and see what happens. McElroy has been extremely lucky not to have more picks that he does. he is just garbage and I would rather watch us lose a game then bare another moment of watching this Junior Varsity QB anymore. It makes me physically ill to even think he is the best we have at QB?!

Agree with you 100%

McElroy is pitiful, especially when you watch a midget QB at Miss St hit his targets, not to mention the UT QB, the Texas QB etc. We accept mediocrity at QB and have for years. I have no idea why. Tradition is one thing but this is a tradition to get rid of!

This is the type of attitude I hate.

Saban has control of the team and coaches and he will do what is best for the team to win a SEC and national title. I cannot say that I don’t agree with some of your points, but Greg is a decent QB and he showed that in the first four games. He just needs game tim experience. He only started as a senior in HS and that was several yrs ago.

quit the complaining...

I have full confidence in mcelroy. I don’t care if his play the last three games has been sub-par what everyone expects out of him. we can’t expect to blow out every team in the SEC by 100 points. did you think tennessee was just going to roll over and die for us? they came into this game fully believing that they could beat us. and hell they almost did. it was a great game. finally the ball rolls our way when we need it and we preserve an unbeaten record. if we had a better quarterback, you better believe that saban would be playing him. and if anyone thinks JPW is better than Gmac, I’m afraid you’ve forgotten his first two dreadful seasons.

it doesn’t matter what we chock it up to for Gmac: inexperience in game time, poor play calling, poor passing decisions. we are still winning these games even if they aren’t full of style points. lets hope our bye week helps us rest up and rejuvenate our offense.

so easy... even an Auburn fan can do it!

We will not beat Florida if he doesn't throw it down the field

We won the UT game because we are a GREAT TEAM. Great teams win games. I’m not complaining about our team. I’m just saying that McElroy is really bad and we are now back to managing games instead of winning them. You can’t win a NC with that type of team. It won’t happen. He needs to get his stuff together before Auburn.

wow..

“I would start Star Jackson against LSU and see what happens”…..probably the dumbest statement concerning Alabama football I’ve read in a while….you are gonna take out the guy who is undefeated as a starter at Alabama and hasn’t lost any football game he started since he was in middle school….and replace him with a) someone who has never started an SEC game (and throw him in the fire against an above-average LSU defense) and b) Got beat out by McElroy by a WIDE margin in spring/fall camp and couldn’t bring forth any resemblance of a QB competition…….yeah, great thought process….we should make you head coach.

I dont think you want me to say what I think about that - Coach Nick Saban

He couldn't be any worse!!!!

Sorry to annoy some of you guys but everything I said was pretty accurate of McSux worse than JPW. The man can’t throw a slant or a crossing. I’d rather just have Star back there as a decoy that he may be able to complete a pass.

Man

It’s called venting…………. and yes I stand by the comment. I rather us just have another RB in the backfield and take our chances. Once again, I hope he turns it around and I’m sure he will at some point but at this time he doesn’t have the ability to see the field and LSU and Florida will beat us if he can’t get it going.

dude

Why am I not a bama fan? The guy suxs and I call it how I see it. I mean he does sux and we all know it. I’m not rooting against the guy. I hope he turns it around and I’m sure he can. My fan hood should not be in question at all. If anything you sux as fan for not being disappointed in the performance of the QB. However, so not to squabble with you I’ll leave it with a Roll Tide and hope you get real and Mc Sux stops Suxing.

it's not that you're not a BAMA fan, it's that

you’re just a shitty excuse for a BAMA fan.

how in the hell did you survive the freddie kitchens era? Buck up, if you’re not happy with mcelroy’s performance then go ahead and say it. many of us have said so on here and plenty of us have voiced frustrations with different aspects of the team’s performance from time to time. your attitude however is pure shit. and as for your assinine suggestion that we’d be better off just running the wildcat or having Star out there the whole time, the coaches have tried those things this year. IN GARBAGE TIME. and thats because our coaches feel GMAC playing the mojority of snaps as QB gives us the best chance to win. so thanks for your brilliant suggestions but you can take them and shove them up your unhelpful petulent crybaby little ass.

If you can...

…watch a replay of the game, you’ll see that our receivers aren’t all always getting their jobs done, either…but yeah, I would still keep the focus primarily on the QB, then O-line, then WRs.

And let’s not forget that our defense is not flawless, either. They’re great, but Kareem just followed one of his best games with one of his worst. And somewhere between our LBs and DBs we gave up far too much in the short passing game.

I’m not complaining…I love this team. I’m mainly pointing out that even our best can improve.

Apparantly McElroy is talented

look at the first five games. Something is wrong for sure, but there is no way in hell I would start Star against LSU; you are asking for a loss.

“Hey you! Yeah, the backup that’s played mop up in two games ever! for your first start and first SEC game, how about a home game against LSU! Yes, with the West on the line!”

Assinine suggestion.

I created this post to get a general consensus, not to created a McElroy bashing session...

The fact that Berry got thru untouched was not the QB’s fault and sure didn’t help the lifting of his funk.

I feel the animosity lies in the fact that we got spoiled by our offensive style in the early games and as the competition began to increase that style gave way to our tradtional running attack.

Got that winning feelin'

After watching the replay,

Gmac did basically what he was asked to do. He missed some passes, but he also had some drops and we had at least two that could have been called pass interference (one in the endzone if Julio kept pursuing the ball). Several times, Gmac just doens’t get enough velocity on the ball and it let the D react so the passes were swatted down.

Your right on his ball velocity

I also noticed that he miss times his reads, misses them all together, or goes through them fast. Alot of that is being comfortable and the pressure but he definately passed to the wrong receiver a few times during the game. Even when he made 5 yard completions he was missing a 15+ yard crossing pattern when throwing that short pass. He needs to settle and see the field.

I wouldn't go that far...

..but since we do have an off week, I think it would be wise to put a little more emphasis than usual on getting Star prepared for real playing time and not just mop-up duty. At the same time, 2 weeks will give G-Mac time to ‘clear his head’ and work on his game.

I would definitely start G-Mac against LSU, but if he’s obviously struggling and not getting it done and Star looked decent the previous 2 weeks, I say give Star a series or two, plus some Ingram wildcat and see if that will give us a spark.

I’m not saying de-mote G-Mac or yank him as ‘punishment’, but sometimes a little sideline time can give you a different perspective and help you see what you’re doing wrong.
