"Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin said he chose not to run another play before the Volunteers attempted a potential game-winning field goal against Alabama in part because of the penalty disparity between the two teams."

Speaking of whiny losers...
Are you, Pete, or anyone else interested in doing an authoritative piece on the helmet rule that Tennessee fans (and Kiffin) keep whining about? http://www.govolsxtra.com/news/2009/oct/25/kiffin-bama-should-have-been-penalized/
He’s probably already going to get himself a public reprimand, and the SEC will probably publicly comment soon, but it would be nice to have something like what Pete did for the NCAA stuff to point to.
Hadn't really thought about it
Mainly because it’s so open-and-shut. There’s really just nothing to talk about.
I mean, it would’ve been different, maybe, if a Vol had recovered it before it crossed the line of scrimmage, but now we’re getting into what might have happened, not the rules of what actually happened.
I'm wrong all the time.

Like the flag they threw
on that egregious hold one of the UT players put on Chavis Williams on UT’s touchdown drive?
MATRIX: Bennett, I thought you were--
BENNETT: Dead? You thought wrong. Ever since you had me thrown out of the unit, I've been waiting to pay you back. Do you know what today is, Matrix? Payday.
how about the
no call PI on Julio before the end of the 2nd half?

Because Alabama blocked and recovered the ball, Alabama had possession. The game can’t end on a defensive penalty, but because of the possession change, Alabama wasn’t on defense. We’ll let SEC spokesman Charles Bloom take it from here.
“The foul for taking helmet off is a live ball foul treated as a dead-ball foul,” Bloom wrote in an e-mail Saturday night. “That is, if it happens on a play where time does not expire then the penalty is enforced on the following play. However since the clock ran out on that play, then there is no next play, so there is no penalty to mark off.”

Hey, I broke the story first in the comments here:
http://www.rollbamaroll.com/2009/10/24/1099347/alabama-12-tennessee-10-victory#comments
For clarification, from the rule book: "Dead-ball foul or live-ball foul treated as dead-ball foul.
15 yards [S7 and S27] from the succeeding spot."
The succeeding spot was Julio’s with our possession.
You didn’t “break a story” you recited a rule from a public document.

technically, danielson "broke" the story
and i think we can all agree… any story that idiot broke deserved to be broken.

Thank goodness Kiffin is proving he is way over his head
Thats a good sign since he is seemingly recruiting pretty well. He is blaming his players (not good enough), the refs (how many flags did we get against SC?, remember all the bad calls Shula got in the 5OT game), etc., for losing instead of his coaching. He also is sending the message to his players that the team is over the hump when in reality he was playing an exhausted Alabama team that should have been up 16-3 with three minutes to go. (They are in good shape if they can get a fumble recovery and an onside recovery in the last 3 minutes of every game.) I am liking what I see out of this boy wonder.
yeah, but that's because spurrier was right about the rule.
Roll 'Bama Roll: The Champagne of 'Bama Blogs.
I guess a potential interception (just don't call a pass)
and an illogical fear of the refs trumps a kicker who has already come up short and kicked one chest high into the line of scrimmage. Good call, man!
so he was trying to say he didn't have enough confidenc ein his own coaching abilities
to keep trying to score a TD? thats pretty revealing you know? him being willing to admit he did such a poor job coaching his team that he fears they cannot go a few plays without drawing flags. speaks volumes about the (extremely low) level of discipline and accountability he’s got going up there…
welcome to the SEC kiffykins...
no. he was trying to say he doesn't know the rulebook
just like he did earlier this year.

Kiffin is just talking a big game without using his brain
That’s been his M/O since he got to Knoxville
Fumbles. It was always Fumbles
What Kiffin is really saying is...
He didn’t play to win.

"Deal!"
cried the losers as the winners told jokes.
"It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog." - Bear Bryant
I think lost in all of this is that he STILL doesn't know the damned rules...
Kiffykins first is dead-damned-wrong about the effect of the penalty. As we know we recovered the ball at the 32 1/2 yard line. We would be subject to a 15 yard penalty, had they called it…But UT doesn’t get to rekick. While that rule is (if you’re dense) open to interpretation, the other thing he whined about was emphatically not open to Vol, tinfoil hat interpretations…
“The play is still going. The ball is sitting there. If Luke (Stocker, UT tight end) sees the ball he can pick it up and go score a touchdown and we win the game. The guy (Cody) throws his helmet, then two of their guys go recover the ball.”
Ummm, no, dipshit. The ball was spotted at the 35. The kick was blocked and touched down at the 32 1/2 yard line. In other words, that ball crossed the line of scrimmage/neutral zone, and the offense couldn’t advance it….period. (Unless we did something stupid like trying to advance it and then fumbling it. And, Ro smartly scrambled to cover it up anyway, but that was not a live ball.).
Idiot.

What a whiny little (female dog)
wahhh. The headsets conveniently stopped working when the game started. It must be a conspiracy. wahh wahh. I’m to stupid to realize that I have the advantage in that situation since my DC is right behind me and their OC is up in the booth. waahh wahh.
wahhh wahhh. The refs were in the bag for those cheatin’ Bammers. Look at all the penalties they called on us and how few they called against the Tide. I refuse to believe that a team coached by Nick Saban is more disciplined than one coached by my daddy. oh yeah….wahh wahhh.
wahhh wahhh. I don’t understand the rules. Why, WHY didn’t that mean mean man get a penalty for taking his helmet off. It’s just not fair, it’s not fair I tell ya’. waahhh wahhh
waahh waahh. I’m such an awesome coach, why does everyone have to cheat to beat me. waahh waahh. We shoulda’ won this game and we WILL win it next year. wahh wahh waaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He’s basically: accusing us of intentionally disabling their headsets, accusing the Tide and the refs of colluding to fix the game AND guaranteeing a win next year (implying that they would have won this year if not for the cheating Bammers) all in the same breath.
If he wasn’t on CNS’s sh!# list already you can bet he is now.

God this douche pisses me off..
can he not play in a game without talking shit afterwards…my god man! STFU!! You are a bitch..You are in fact the tampon bitches use…You act as if UT had that game won all game and the refs gave it to us…Did you not watcht the first 56 and a half minutes..God i loathe you…May god spite on your entire family…

This guy will never be a success
Men coach in the SEC,not whiny primadonnas with their Daddy there to hold their hand.Rather than congratulate the team and coach Saban,he once again shows his true colors. He proves that his praising of Alabama before the game was a front and a lie.
I can’t wait till we’re rolling full throttle in to Neyland next season and kick ass.
But wait! What's this about magical flags?
I’ve never seen any magical flags? Maybe they change all of those pesky written rules for which LK would need major doses of adderall to get to page 2….
