I would get the WRs and QBs and a couple linemen together with some second team DBs. I’d have throwing drills designed to build the confidence of the WRs and McElroy in unison, and I’d have drills where the DBs hung on the guys and they were encouraged to catch it regardless of the call they’d get. I’d get zen with those guys “See yourself catching the ball . . .” I’d work on those guys all week out on their own while the rest of the team did its thing.

I’d have post-catch runnig drills and tackle breaking drills, I’d want McElroy and those WRs going onto the field with the confidence of Rolando McClain, thinking they wwere wearing Red capes and leaping tall buildings.

Then next week I’d put them back in with everyone else and I’d alternate stressing passing and run blocking downfield and I’d strive for lean, mean safety-like WRs who wante dthe ball and when they did not have it wanted to knock someone’s damned head off.

Just a thought, I mean, that’s the one thing I think I’d want to see the greatest improvement in—unitybetween McElroy and all his tossing targets, and WR game time mentality.

But you guys know your team better than I do, so pick me apart, I’ll happily be corrected.

Why aren’t we taking chances downfield? I am excited that we are 8-0, and very proud of our players and coaches. We have come a long way in a short period of time, but goddamnit, does the offensive staff not see how stale our O has been the last 3 games?

 It seems like we are falling into the same pattern as we did late last year where we dink and dunk and don’t thrown anything farther than 10 yards downfield.

Let’s face it guys, we aren’t going to be able to run the ball on LSU like we did on USC, and if our play calling doesn’t get any better, we stand a good chance of getting beat.
