Not sure what everyone else thought...

but I wasn’t impressed with the way Bama played today. Gave up way too many rushing yards and had some let downs in the secondary again. The defense had some big plays but most of those came from 1 man…Ro….This team is still not playing to their potential and with the competition getting ready to stiffin up a bit I hope Saban and company can crank things up a notch here going down the stretch…

Cox overthrows Green

Would’ve been an easy 98-yd TD. Green had his man beat by five yards.

Congratulations, ladies and gentlemen.

Good, almost mistake-free football on your part. Noble victory, and well earned.

LSU: 3, UGA: 0

LSU easily drives all the way down the field before crashing at the end of the drive again. Settles for a chip-in field goal.

I think our

run defense will not be very good until Jerrell Harris comes back. Reamer is a good outside linebacker but he just isn’t big enough to completely stop the run like Hightower did.

This upcoming season I'm gonna refer to Julio Jones as "The Magic Man" and Trent Richardson as "El Diablo"

Reamer

just isn’t good enough to play inside linebacker is what I’m saying. I wish we would let Chris Jordan replace Hightower till Harris comes back. Rolando said Jordan could play the middle linebacker position very well.

In our defese's... defense

They set up 14 points for us, scoring 6 on their own and that is after spending the majority of the first half on the field holding the cats to 2 field goals during our first road game. Sure they gave up 20. They also got 3 picks, one for six. IMHO, they did fine.

SWEET LORDAMERCY

that was a wrestling move, not a tackle.

by kleph on Oct 3, 2009 3:44 PM CDT reply actions

Reamer actually played pretty well

But he really isn’t big enough in this system. There were at least two plays where he made a tackle but got knocked back, allowing the back to get two or three extra yards.

by Mac T on Oct 3, 2009 3:44 PM CDT reply actions

Charles Scott really isn't that good.

He got a lot of attention last year, but he was a creation of the offensive line. The interior line isn’t that good this year, and Scott is doing the old run-into-the-line-fall-down routine.

by Mac T on Oct 3, 2009 3:50 PM CDT reply actions

LSU v. UGA is an ugly game to date...

Georgia gets all of one first down in the entire first half, and they go to halftime trailing only 6-0. A couple of really bad decisions by Miles at the end of the first half cost LSU a few points.

Both teams look really sloppy, but honestly given the way we played earlier in the day we really do not have much room to talk.

by LifelongBammer on Oct 3, 2009 4:11 PM CDT reply actions

they looked very out-of-sync

but you’d have to check with ots to get a sense of if it was more a result of kentucky’s game plan or our trying to cope with the loss of hightower.

by kleph on Oct 3, 2009 4:16 PM CDT up reply actions

Eh...

… I’ll have more up in the initial impressions piece, but it wasn’t pretty. The offensive play-calling and offensive gameplan was very poor, special teams continued to struggle (particularly in kick coverage), and the defense probably played its worst game since 2007.

On the other hand, we won with ease so you cannot complain too much, but I think it’s clear we are going to have to play much better today moving forward. I don’t think we could have beaten LSU or Ole Miss (or perhaps a few more remaining teams on our schedule) with our performance today.

However, Julio has been hurt, and we have other weapons. UGA’s offense right now is “Throw it to AJ and hope.”

by Mac T on Oct 3, 2009 4:30 PM CDT up reply actions

True, but still...

… if you be honest about it, Green has played better to date. He has produced at a much higher level — both in total or on a per games played basis — and he has done so with less talent around him and an inferior quarterback throwing him the ball.

Got to give credit where it’s due.

I agree with you on the recent ND wins... but

washington has been suprisingly uncrappy this year. yeah, they’ve lost some game… but wow they have played hella football this year so far. almost beating everyone they’ve played. hats off to the huskies. I hope they rock next year!

so easy... even an Auburn fan can do it!

by K. brevis on Oct 3, 2009 6:39 PM CDT up reply actions

let's just call it "the auburn effect"

because since everyone was expecting complete failure this year, the fact they achieve mediocrity is being trumpeted as a grand success. it’s the opposite for ole miss. since everyone had them as the mega-fatastic-super-victory-squad, one loss means their stock has completely bottomed out.

And here I thought Alabama fans were classier than this. I’m a longtime Vols fan, but an Alabama fan by marriage, and I always support Alabama except when they’re playing Tennessee. Comments like these make me reconsider.

I came here to make fun of Crompton along with the rest of the world, but I really don’t want anything to do with commenters like this. You could at least try to be smart and funny, like the EDSBS crew, instead of just unoriginal and degrading.

chizik is a complete doofus but i'll give him credit for one thing

he’s let his coaching staff do their jobs instead of micromanaging things into disaster. its too early to say if that’s cause he learned a lesson in ames or he just really has no power on the staff. but the fractious bullshit in the coaching staff that led to last year’s meltdown is clearly been resolved.

by kleph on Oct 3, 2009 8:34 PM CDT up reply actions

The funny thing about Tennessee

is that they have a veteran team. It’s not like Kiffin walked into a coaching job for a team without any talent. They have a lot of seniors on offense and defense and they’re struggling. Who will be their quarterback next year?

Auburn has what, 75 guys on scholarship?

Why are they saying that Auburn's offense is so awesome?

When Tennessee’s offense is that bad, their defense is going to get worn down so much that you can’t help but score 26 on them.
