Southeastern Conference coaches will face stiffer penalties from now on for complaining about officiating in the media.
Commissioner Mike Slive told The Associated Press in a phone interview Friday that coaches who violate the conferences' ethics rules against criticizing officials in public will face a fine or suspension instead of receiving public reprimands when they first act up.

I've already seen some TN fans...
…claiming it’s akin to a totalitarian or police state.

it's a business not a government so...

Techincally...
…the schools are government funded institutions. Some have argued that makes them part of the government and open to the same rules and regulations.

You guys are scaring me . . .
. . . treating the UT response as if there was a shred of rationality to it.

Just
because the government subsidizes your tuition, doesn’t mean the government can or should run the universities.

the schools in question are in a business agreement with a private organization
Government can tell the schools what to do, sure. However, the private organization known as the South Eastern Conference, is under no such thumb

kinda off topic but...
have any of y’all read or seen “battlefield earth”? i know it’s like, one of hte top 5 worst movies of all time, but the plot is pretty dope. basically in the future corporations have out-competed nation states and control everything, so instead of soldiers swearing allegiance to and fighting for a nation or country, they fight for paychecks and hope to gain the favor of the current CEO. it’s a pretty funny/scathing critique of capitalism and what can/will happen as corporations continue to grow larger and more powerful. clearly tennesee fans view themselves as Barry Pepper’s character “Johnnie Goodboy Tyler” who is the leader of the human rebellion on earth, and they see SNS as john travolta’s character “Terl” and they think the Legend of Terrence Cody is Forrest Whitaker’s “Ker”
but of course, that is a flawed analogy, rife with inaccuracies and logical fallacies. th emost glaring of which is that Barry Pepper’s character does not bang his sister.
welcome to the SEC kiffykins...

Finally I would like to add that only a facist wouldn’t want people to be able to say what they are thinking (ala Kiffin). It is fine if you hate the First Amendment but don’t come over here and spew this diarrhea that is much worse (and stupider) than anything Kiffin ever said. You are doing exactly what you are flaming about him doing but in way that only makes you look like a moron.
like that?
What you're seeing is team spirit. It's like the Holy Spirit, but more powerful.

Friendly Wager
Who will be the first coach to actually be suspended?
My money is on Mullen. Kiffin is just too easy a pick unfortunately.

Spurrier
He could give a sh** less, and while he’s not quite as petulant as Kiffy, I wonder how many of his back-handed comments the commish’s office will take.

I wish they would
do something else besides fine- as coaches have plenty of money, or suspend, since in UT’s case suspending Kiffin actually helps the team.
I wish they would make them wear stupid clothing or pick up trash in the stadium or put vasoline in their hair or some other form of public humiliation or manual labor. After all they are trying to publically humilate the refs so why not return the favor.
It will however be interesting to see this rule actually applied. I vote that the Cheese goes crazy when Auburn loses to Furman on a last second call.
I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.

Tennessee already wears stupid clothing...
And, if you’ve been looking for love in Opelika, you’ve picked up the trash.

About the dumb TN clothing
I vote to keep the vidoe of the TN fan in the prison orange suit, watching the last minute of the game, on the homepage for a few more weeks. As Larry says, “I don’t care who ya are, that’s funny.”

I see this as very simple:
1. Use the league’s quality control procedures for resolving conflict.
2. Do not use the media, as a bludgeon, against the league.
3. If their was an issue with the in place, quality control procedures, why was it not brought up during the SEC meetings?
