How to get ESPN 360

I seem to remember someone on here one time explaining how to get ESPN 360 even if your ISP didn't provide it. If anyone knows of a way, would you please explain below?

Any info on Slingbox would be helpful too.

For example, if I got a friend to install it on their TV, could I use my computer to access it. As you can probably tell, I’m not the most technologically gifted person in the world, thus the ignorance. Thanks for any help you can give!

Getting ESPN 360 when your ISP doesn’t provide it is against the law.

According to the DMCA (Digital Millenium Copyright Act), any method of subverting data protection (which would be required) to obtain digital data is illegal. The ownership of such software is illegal, the description of how to use or create such software is illegal, and we can’t discuss it here on RBR without it being a DMCA violation. I recommend the mods remove any posts that talk about how to subvert ESPN 360’s protection.

As for slingbox, it legally extends the cable you or your friend are already paying for. You are correct in your assessment. There is an ethical line between watching a game or two on a friend’s cable, and using your friend’s cable as your primary carrier over slingbox. Fair use is only fair use when you’re not stealing. Your assessment of slingbox is correct, though.

I recommend purchasing a cable/satellite provider that carries the games you want to avoid any legal/copyright issues.

Not sure about the legality of this

But, if you have a friend who is a Comcast client and has Comcast Internet service, you could “borrow” their account. If they trusted you enough to let you log into www.comcast.net with their login and password (which they use to access their email), you could access their ESPN 360. That’s how I am able to watch ESPN 360 on my laptop remotely — for instance, when I’m on the wireless network at the marina. I just log into comcast.net, and I can get everything that I normally could get while I’m on the home network (ESPN 360, Fancast, etc.).

It’s unenforceable, but still illegal, to use someone else’s account. An account (username + password) is considered a security measure by the DMCA. Circumventing that security measure, even if you have the original account owner’s permission, is against Comcast’s copyright regulations and therefore violates the DMCA.

Will you get caught? No. In fact, this is the way most people use espn360. I lucked out and have knology, which just signed up for 360 this year. Nevertheless, it’s still technically illegal, and this method won’t be protected under fair-use.

I actually just did this for my son

I simply created another email account as part of my Comcast Internet service and gave him the login and password. He can use that to log into Comcast.net and thereby have access to ESPN 360 on his Internet at his apartment, … or anywhere with broadband Internet access, really. I wasn’t using all of my allotted email accounts, so this is totally legal and totally easy.

Thanks squinky.

That helps a lot. I’m certainly not trying to be unethical about anything, and figured I might run into certain issues like that, but since my provider doesn’t offer it, I figured it couldn’t hurt to ask! You’ve been most helpful.

what i've seen is that you

need to create an ESPN account (it can be a free one) and then when you are using an ISP that does provide it, you can set it up there so that you can watch it on others. ESPN360’s site has a way on there somewhere you can do it. Then when you are back where ever you are without it, you can watch it there
