It's Meltdown Time...

Rbrmt01_medium_medium

Once again, it is meltdown time here at RBR. This week we have gems from Tennessee, Georgia, Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Cal, and Florida State. Trust me, you'll enjoy.

Now, I mentioned this last week but some people did not heed the advice, so I will reiterate here: This is pure emotion, meltdown material in the immediate aftermath of some passionate fan getting his ever loving heart ripped out and spit on. The language does get ugly sometimes, and at times very ugly. If you are in any way whatsoever averse to that sort of thing, I strongly urge you to not read any further. Again, I'm not just bored here looking to pad the word count of this piece. And, to that end, for those who do not want to read that sort of thing, I've moved the worst stuff until after the jump, so you can browse the front page at RBR without running across the worst.

You've been warned. And now, ladies and gentlemen, it is meltdown time:

Lulujr_medium

This team couldn't beat Bama in Tuscaloosa with the 2001 defense.

I am ready for a new offensive coordinator.

I am FREAKIN' SICK AND TIRED OF LOSING TO AUBURN. It is ridiculous to lose to that program this many times. They are not, and never have been, the program that UT is, yet they lead us in the head to head series by SIX GAMES! It is infuriating as hell.

who would wager that we don't win another game this year?

I've switched to Jack Daniels... just can't take it anymore!!

It is not going to happen guys. I agree with you 100% but Kiffin is mule
headed. Monty didn't beat his a$$ enough when he was a kid.

KIFFIN IN WAY OVER HIS HEAD

I have been supportive up until now.  I am a season ticket holder and i have spent tens of thousands of dollars on tickets and travel since i graduated back in 1994.  This is the worst offensive game plan i have ever seen...worst than last years BS!!!  Kiffin needs to man up and be a man put that piece of crap QB on the bench.  It is not right to the other players and to fans to endure this anymore.  Kiiffin is taking the easy way out and not trying to win games which is disutingly arrogant on his part.  GIVESOMEBODY ELSE A CHANCE TO WIN THE FREAKIN GAME....ANYONE CAN COACH THREE AND OUT.  NOT ACCEPTABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LET ME ASK YOU HOW MUCH MONEY IF ANY YOU SPEND ON THE VOLS?  THAT SHOULD ANSWER YOUR QUESTION FOR YOU?  IF YOU WENT TO UCLA LAST YEAR AND THIS YEAR?  DID YOU TRAVEL TO THE FLA, AUBURN, BAMA GAMES LAST YEAR?  HAVE YOU SPENT A DIME ON THIS UNVERSITY?  IF YES YOU CAN RESPOND HOW YOU LIKE...IF YOU SIT ON YOU AZZZ EVERY WEEKEND YOU HAVE NO VOICE.   I LIKE KIFFIN, JUST PROOVE STEPHENS CAN'T PLAY???

I agree the WR are horrible at best .... but good lord man ... your 10 year old could make half of those throws too.

You have to feel bad for Berry.

Probably the best individual player we've had since Peyton (with apologies to Jamal, Haynesworth, and Henderson) and he will more than likely leave school with a combined 1 victory vs Fla, Bama, UGA, Auburn, & LSU.

But whippin in every aspect of the game.

Love Monty Kiffin (jury still out on his son) but even the great Monty was outcoached by a not too long ago H.S. coach. Auburn guys in space most of the night.

This season is over.

Let's see... Donnan was fired because...

1. They had big time recruiting that never panned out.

2. The team was never ready for big games.

3. The coaches were outschemed.

4. There was an apparent lack of discipline.

5. He could not beat Tenn., Fla., or GT.

That is starting to sound awful familiar.

I just witnessed the two worst coaching staffs in the SEC, and the two worst QB's.

Bobo --- calls one of his worst games in the 1st half that I can remember.

UGA will win a NC... but NOT with Richt

I've always supported CMR because he seems to be a really good guy, but as for coaching… another Tommy Bowden. I truly believe next year will be his last to get it done @ UGA. He needs to at least win the SEC, unless he makes changes at both coordinators spots, and I highly doubt that will happen.

Truthfully, CMR has wasted a lot of talent at UGA, including the years of David Pollack to Knowshon. With the talent that has played "between the hedges" there's no reason why CMR’s record should not be equal to that of Myer's or at least Miles...in other words, the Dawgs should have at least 1 NC ring by now.

Our team as a whole didn't deserve to win....PERIOD!!! Time for some changes UGA!!!
EVERYBODY IN THE FREAKING STADIUM KNEW LSU WAS GOING TO RUN THE BALL.....WE SHOULD HAVE LOADED THE FREAKING BOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
just went back and watch the replay....we had SIX guys around the line of scrimmage on the TD run....SIX...

Music Shitty Bowl here we come!

Goddamnit...

That was pathetic Defense, fucking pathetic.

17 goddamn plays...

Garbage, quit worrying about the goddamn big play and jam these guys and make Cousins make plays PLEASE, the underneath bullshit will be there all day.

When the hell did State get a fucking defense?

-5 yards on our 1st possesion. 5 yards on our second. We have ZERO GODDAMN YARDS!

3RD AND FUCKING 17 AND YOU RUSH THREE

That is so goddamn pathetic, our defense is just giving up 3rd and long like it's 3rd and 3

Just bring pressure, there's NO FUCKING POINT in sitting back in coverage and letting them complete easy passes anyway, bring the heat on this kid and make him make some hurried goddamn throws. I just do not get it.

First ever OT loss. Goddamn, that hurts. I don't get it.

Oklahoma-logo_medium

I sure as he double hockey sticks can't figure out what our coaching staff is up to.

Unfortunately  3-4 more losses.  We have the talent but the system is broken.

Nope, nothing is going to take the bitterness out of this season out of my mouth, even if OU runs the table(which is unlikely at this point) and finally wins a BCS game...2-2 is inexcusable, and will be so even if OU finishes 12-2...

Wilson's head is so far up his a$$ right now that he cant see daylight.  He doesnt make in game adjustments and usually likes to screw OU over in situtions like this.

Wow! we go 2-1 shutting out one of the worst teams ever played by a division 1 school (Idaho State) and a down 2nd tier school (Tulsa) and people think that is evidence that our defense is back to the Mike Stoops years?

Epic FAIL by the coaching staff.  Just complete and total garbage.  I hope Bob Stoops sees the handwriting on the wall: Kevin Wilson must go!

As much as I am a Bob Stoops fan it starts putting doubts in my head about his leadership when he allows this type of offensive play calling game in and game out. Really is diappointing. I am angry and really pissed.

Insanitity: doing the same things over and over expecting a DIFFERENT result!!!

Are you suggesting 7-5 (gulp!) is a distinct possibility???

Texas_a_m_logo_medium

Who else is glad they didn't shell out the $500 to watch the beat down at Jerry Land?

I might attend a game again when I have GRAND-children. Right now, it's not worth my time or money.

Did Torchbush return.....?

We are still too soft and too weak. We got our a$$ whipped badly on the O-Line and the D-Line. We are just not a physical football team.

The Past 6 years just will not go away.....

Building Champions.......

One embarrassing loss at a time.......

You as a whole disgust me, STUDENTS sitting ALL through out the entire game sulking like little children. You call yourself the 12th man when all you do is piss all over 100 years of tradition! Support your team or go somewhere else, it makes me sick!

#1 offense in the country baby....and going to win JJ the heisman too! A total of 19 points vs. #63 in power rankings and one of the worst teams in the entire SEC (dead last in their division). Good lord....ugh

FRAN FAILED TO RECRUIT LINEMEN!

This is Aggie football I have seen it since the 60's

This season is a microcosm of Aggie football for a generation. We beat the piss out of terrible teams; we can’t handle the truth against good teams. The only difference is that in the 80’s and 90’s, we played an entire schedule of UNM, UT State, and UAB’s.

This regime has no more promise than the RC or Fran regimes – both of which were well short of being able to play legit top-tier football.

How many losses in a row? I put the over / under at 4.

To all the fans who gave up tonight...

Don't show up at Kyle next week

We won't! Saving our $$$!!!!!

I gave up. I have a hard time watching us get blown out all the time. The multiple beat downs of the past 10 years have made me very apathetic towards this program. I would love to get excited about A&M football again, but we didn't make any substantial progress since last year.

Please don't show up? Look, anyone who roots for A&M -- 2 percenter or not-- has to be a glutton for punishment. What fan base, save some team like Michigan State, has given so much for so little return? In 40 plus years of watching A&M football, I can say that you should give a break to fans who show up period.

I am not sure if free attendance warrants much attendance. We suck and not much has changed. I don't think gas plus hotel warrents attendance even if admission was free. The performance on the field is pathetic and has been for too long. I am tired of the fans accepting and making excuses.

Attendance will plummet and Byrne will raise prices. He is the Nancy Pelosi of Athletic Directors.

I WANT A FUCKING ROSE BOWL GODDAMNIT!

I’d take an 8% grad rate for a Rose berth…

Florida-state-logo_medium

We need a total coaching change, our playcalling absolutely sucks, I was a supporter of Jimbo but after last week and this week I now have my doubts

I'd like to go to Chuck Amato's School for LB Play...

and learn such excellent moves as:

1. running a circle around OL blocks to make a tackle! (Dekoda Watson)

2. jumping randomly into a hole on goal line while forgetting to scrape to the play! (Kendall Smith)

3. Showing a blitz entirely too early and letting the offense read it and adjust!

3. Dropping to your knees after contact and getting dragged for another three yards! (all LBs)

Best case scenario:
A) Bobby and company announce retirement tomorrow.
2) Team balls out and fights for the fading glory of our once great HC
D) We go 6-6 and make a bowl game

We still have a ways to go for rock bottom HOWEVER, I think we will reach it this year with….NO BOWL GAME AND EVEN WORSE A LOSING SEASON.

There is no way around it. Maryland will be our only win and that is at best 50/50 right now. We are way worse than I expected and this year will be almost unbearable when the Gates hold that trophy following an undefeated season.

I am rooting for BAMA for the rest of the year and hopefully in the SEC championship for the only glimmer of hope I have left of happiness this year.

my grandpa donated 1 million dollars to FSU, he was the largest cash donation to fsu & he is still a HUGE Bowden supporter. I think all these Old Timers still love Bowden cause he shakes their hands and acts like a freind to them. Wish the Boosters would finally see the light

Maybe Bowden will die.

I learned a few things from reading this:

1) fans in the SEC actually use less profanity than those in the Big 10 and Pac 10. Never would have guessed that based on me and my friends.
2) FSU fans are insane. I get fans wanting a coaching change there, but “maybe Bowden will die” that is just nuts.

you mean Cal

and i think the world of the guys over at california golden blogs but the ongoing meltdown they are experiencing over there is simply epic. even their assessment post today is full of zingers:

I fell asleep during halftime and woke up a minute or so into the 3rd quarter. That was fun.
I had severe food poisoning/stomach flu prior to the game. I had to go to urgent care where they forced me to pound six huge glasses of vile contrast liquid so that they could scan me to verify that my appendix wasn’t about to burst. So, I ran the gamut of nausea, vomiting, and crapping out radioactive contrast liquid. Looking back, it was a much more pleasant experience than watching the game.
My goal for this team was to score one touchdown. They failed me.
I think Kevin Riley’s superpower is not being able to hit open receivers.
I didn’t commit suicide after watching the game.

ever get rid of Richt as long as he wins 7 or 8 games- NO!!!!!!

They recruit well, one of the best in the nation, but play average at best. But they will not fire Richt because of his image. They like the image.

And I can tell you their best days with Richt are behind them now. They are becoming accepting of 8-4, gettting kicked by UF, and then going to Tampa.

Does anyone else take pleasure in the fact that it’s only week 6 and Tennessee is already looking likely to miss a bowl game? I mean, they already have three losses and with likely losses, in Bama, Georgia, and Ole Miss ahead, if they lose to South Carolina, Kentucky, or Vandy, they’re looking at 5-7 or worse. Again.

Indeed there will...

… be a ’Bama meltdown when we lose.

Keep in mind that the point of the piece is not to make fun of certain schools. The point of the piece is to simply show how maniacal fanbases get after a loss, and how they are completely and totally unable to rationally process watching their team lose (even though losing is a guaranteed part of playing competitive sports, and even at times when their team is expected to lose).

And, of course, ‘Bama fans are no better than the rest, and frankly given how completely obsessed we are with football anyway, we will probably have meltdowns of epic proportions in our own right. When we lose, if we meltdown after it — and keep in mind some losses don’t really result in meltdowns; no one is happy about it, of course, but generally nothing too extreme — then you’ll read it here on RBR.

… make sure you come back to RBR for even more meltdowns. The slate of games is roughly this:

Alabama v. Ole Miss
Georgia v. Tennessee
Florida v. LSU
Auburn v. Arkansas
Georgia Tech v. Florida State
Michigan v. Iowa

We are guaranteed at least three or four good meltdowns. Maybe not as much as this week — no doubt, this week was truly epic — but it will be another very good week for the meltdown time column.

Yes...

… the same offensive coordinator who put together arguably the greatest offense ever a year ago, and the same offensive coordinator who is with a completely new offensive line, a back-up quarterback, and his two best receiving threats out with injuries. They’ve got all of about two starters from last year’s offense currently starting and healthy, if that.

Again, it’s about maniacal fans being completely and totally incapable of rationally processing their team losing, regardless of how ridiculously stacked the circumstances are against their favor. See Oklahoma for a textbook example.
