The Malzhan Offense
Back in October two excellent articles examining the Gus Malzahn offense were penned that are well worth a look as we head into Jordan-Hare Stadium on Friday. The always-excellent Chris Brown of Smart Football did a superb breakdown for Yahoo!Sports that will take care of all your X's & O's requirements. Then Sports Illustrated's Stewart Mandel produced a detailed examination of how Malzahn's strategy has developed over his relatively short career. RBR says "check 'em out."

Chris Brown is a freak..
he should be on the sidelines somewhere.

Is Todd have his taste of Todd on turkey day? Cause that would truly be couragious.
He either sullies the good taste of t-day food he already ate or ruins his taste buds before enjoying t-day food. He should probably do it in front of his family.
36-0

kind of intimidating
reading all that. but since it was a chris brown article, lets talk x’s and o’s….
seems to me that a lot of the passing barn looks to do will be off play action, sometimes off a second fake to a sweeping WR or back. i’d like to see more film of these type of plays, especially from the last month, because i have a hunch that if we put that fellow Marcel Darius, in there then he can blow that shit up before the QB gets a chance to set his feet. (also, if we can give eryk anders a simple assignment like: “kill QB if you are able” then auburn may be playing with fire trying to get cute with fakes for the first 2-3 seconds after a snap)
Also, it seems like we’re going to have to leave our CB’s isolated in man coverage pretty much the whole time. okay, we’ve only done that all year long.
It also seems that our safeties will be under probably the most pressure to make the right reads. i know earlier in the year it felt like Mark Barron fell for every PA fake that was thrown at him, however it’s been a while since i’ve noticed a play like that. I presume the saftey rotation will mirror the personell the boogs send out. 3 WR’s and we’ll have Robby Green out there, 2 WR’s and it’s Barron. either way, i think both those guys have really shown tremendous improvement this year, i like our chances with them out there.
i guess it’ll all come down to our front 7 beating blocks, getting in the backfield, and playing sound assignment football for some of those option runs.
So can our 3/4 down linemen blow up the middle and rush from the edge? will Rolando Mcclain be able to make the correct reads and fill the right gaps? Will anyone complete another pass on Marquis for the rest of the year ? (apparently he’s the only CB remotely worth challenging, the others are strictly off limits if the previous 5 weeks are any clue)
oh yeah, then there’s the whole “our power run game will destroy them and keep them off the field, it will also keep them from getting more than 60 plays and 25 minutes of possession, in addition to scoring about 40 or more points”.
i like our chances still. revised prediction: Bama 41 barn 6
for the next five days there is nothing in my heart but hate. pure, untempered, ice-cold hate. fond memories are for saturday. - Kleph
Bama 43-Barners 10
Spread offense, butter spread,it don’t matter. This game will get ugly quick. They do not have enough depth to compete over the long haul.
