#2 Alabama 26 - Auburn 21: "Is My Arm Supposed to be Tingling Like This?" Thread

Winning your two biggest rivalries with last second heroics has shortened my life span by about ten years. It is so, so worth it. Roll Tide.

God bless the Crimson Tide. That is all.

My comments are of my own and do not represent any other bama fans or blog or website or blackberry whatever else can be connected to the stupid internet.

So if you don't like what I say grow a set or ban me and ANYONE else can ban me to if they want. I don't care about your nancy feelings anymore than you care about mine.

Deal with it. (I have for the past decade)

I’m done. I blame and give credit to my girlfriend. She worked today after watching every game with me all year. She finally made it home for the final Bama drive. I haven’t decided if I’m just going to lock her up inside the house next weekend or not.

Mine too!

And she wears the magic hat…she didn’t take the hat to work. But she got in with about 6 minutes left in the game and I shoved the hat on her!

Nothing a few Barner meltdowns won’t cure.

by allan8147 on Nov 27, 2009 5:16 PM CST up reply actions

Not sure you'll see any meltdowns from us

They’ll at least be few and far between. Yeah, we lost, and we don’t count “moral victories.” But we have nothing to be ashamed of. Pushing the #2 team in the country to the limit with our 2nd string linebackers all being walk-ons today, all while outgaining them and holding their Heisman candidate runner to less than 2 ypc, I’d say we’re all damn proud of our team. Of course we wish the outcome had been different, but I don’t think we could have played too much better.

And, in a related story, this week marked the 5,000th performance of the Broadway musical "Cats." It also marked the 5,000th time a guy turned to his wife and said, "What the hell is this?"

by jd is legend on Nov 27, 2009 7:45 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah. I sort of regretted that post a few hours later after the excitement wore off. Both teams left absolutely everything out on the field.

No Meltdowns coming...

nor should there be. From what I read the folks at TET see this game as a good building block. They had a well-conceived upset plan early and executed to perfection. I have noticed from time to time that we get conservative and vanilla the week before big games. I honestly think the staff was holding back for UF and it almost bit them.

Oh, and if Ingram isn’t right next week, you read it here that Trent has a Shaun-like breakout next weekend.

CNS says

Auburn"s plan was to stop Mark, thats why he stuck with Trent and that Trent was “fresher” than Mark.

by tc16cav on Nov 27, 2009 5:32 PM CST reply actions

That was good for the Tide

Saban realized that he needed to win the game (use Richardson) more than winning Ingram the Heisman. I figured we would have more trouble with Richardson than Ingram, because we have had much more success against power backs than speed backs this season.

Nine of Auburn’s fourteen possessions (including their second half TD) lasted three plays or less. Essentially, their second drive (after the onsides kick) was their only sustained drive of the game.

I have been checking all sports sites after this game. And the Barners all talk about a moral victory. They played well and did not let Ingram get going. But they were outscored 26 to 7 after those early scores. We left some points on the field too.

But it was rather obvious something was wrong. Whether it was an injury or his head wasn’t in the game, he played poorly. There is nothing wrong with saying that. And my answer above still holds true. We didn’t run the wild cat b/c Ingram was either hurt or b/c his head was somewhere other than the game.

He was hurt early in the game.

Most of you think he got the hip pointer at the end when he came out. He got the hip pointer on his second carry. He hurt his wrist late in the game. He has been an absolute workhorse for us this season. He has a bad game with one of the most painful injuries that you can actually play with and you question him. C’mon maaaannn ;)

he was surprised by the lack of intensity we showed today. I was also.

MATRIX: Bennett, I thought you were--

BENNETT: Dead? You thought wrong. Ever since you had me thrown out of the unit, I've been waiting to pay you back. Do you know what today is, Matrix? Payday.

are you really

that surprised? We were obviously looking ahead to Fla, and the majority of our offensive playmakers are sophomores, meaning they don’t know what it’s like to play an Auburn team that hasn’t given up on its season…..our young’uns simply don’t understand the importance of the rivalry

I am a little bit surprised

I can’t believe we’d look past Auburn, but hey, we got the job done when it counted.

Maybe...

It’s because so many of the players are from out of state. Arenas has mentioned that it took him awhile to really get the rivalry.

That is very good to hear...

…but I think it affected him during the game. He sustained it on like his second carry. He didn’t look much like himself all game long. He usually bounces off of first contact and finds a crease. I have had a hip pointer and I can attest, it hurts like a sumbitch. It also affects your ability to plant and cut.

He may have lost the Heistman today but he gets my 2009 MVP vote…and my vote is the only one that counts. ;)

Auburn and Tennessee fans are a lot like Slinkys...neither are worth much but you do get a sense of satisfaction from pushing them down a flight of stairs

the only consolation i have after this debacle of a win

is that once again we let a hated rival believe they might actually be able to defeat us and then snatch the win away from them at the last second in the cruelest way possible. they’ll claim a moral victory but it will gall them even worse than if we blew them out.

That's too bad...

…‘cause I take consolation in knowing that our oft-maligned QB played a very fine game, particularly on the game-winning drive…that we won without a great contribution from our Heisman front-runner…that we outscored AU 26-7 after the first quarter…that I got to see Javy play, ever…that Roy Upchurch got to be a hero…that Julio wears crimson…that we finished strong in a game in which we didn’t play very well…that we beat Auburn…that we are 12-0, again….

this is not a performance worthy of this team. period. there are good individual efforts that deserve being lauded, but this was not a championship-caliber team we saw on the field today.

We can all...

…easily see that this team did not play near its capacity for too much of this game. They did not often look like a championship-caliber team. But that was certainly a championship-caliber drive, better than any drive we’ve seen this year.

There are certainly good individual efforts that deserve being lauded, and one I failed to mention earlier is that Rolando McClain, our truest Heisman-worthy player, had 12 tackles and a crucial fourth-quarter sack. I’m gonna miss him for a long time after this season ends.

I’ve never been convinced that we are the greatest team in football. But no other team has looked definitively better, either. I’m very concerned about our upcoming game in Atlanta, but again, if your only consolation is the way Auburn fans are feeling right now…that’s just really too bad, and I hope you can find more to draw from this win in a couple of days. Good night, kleph. Roll Tide.

well, we kicked ass when it really counted. at least we can all agree to that

but count me among the group that says we better play better next week or we’ll end up in the sugar bowl, again. dont count me in any kind of group that says we’re headed tot eh sugar bowl though. cause we WE WILL PLAY BETTER NEXT WEEK. we’re going to crush those fucking gaytors like theres no tomorrow.

for the next five days there is nothing in my heart but hate. pure, untempered, ice-cold hate. fond memories are for saturday. - Kleph

+1 and rec'd

what do championship/elite teams do? They come through when everything is on the line…..and that’s exactly what our team did tonight. We certainly did not play our best ball tonight, but when it truly came down to the line, we man’ed up and won the damn game. A win’s a win no matter how you look at it, and we proved tonight why we deserve to be in the conversation above teams like the Bearcats and the Horned Frogs. Our offense showed more heart in that final drive than I’ve seen all season, and Kleph, you being older than I, and having seen more than I, should respect that when it came down to it, we slapped adversity in the face and screamed “you shall not pass!”

Don't joke...

I had a good family friend die like that last year (or was it 2 years ago?) during the Tennessee game.

That having been said, sometime in the future, I can picture it:
Eli Gold’s going to say, "Bama wins it in a close one!" Three days later, they find my wife and me in our Bama jerseys holding hands on the couch, dead from a heart attack and stroke.
