Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Can we PLEASE start talking about FLORIDA now? IT IS TIME.

Here are a few things i would like to see next Saturday.

1.  Defer the ball to the second half.  Let our D, the strength of the team, start.

2.  Involve Peek and Upchurch bigtime.  I mean it.  Bigtime.

3.  GMAC does need to come out guns blazing, like the LSU game.  Hopefully the pass will set up the run.

4.  As much as I love me some Ingy...Alabama produces champions,  not Heismans.  Give the ball to Trent, often.  He is the hot back right now.  I dont care what anyone else says,  we would have tripled our rush yrdge againt Aubie if we would have stuck with TR as the #1 back instead of forcing it to an injured Ingram.  But who knew?

5.  I know a lot of you are not "asthetically pleased" with the dink and dunk passing...but I want to see more of that, also.  That will be a key factor for victory. Long, grinded out, time-consuming-keep-UF's-offense-off-the-feild drives.

6.  Cody in EVERY 4th and 1 or 2 situation, no matter the feild position.  We cannot afford to let them ever have the ball unless we have scored.

7.  See #2....See 2nd name.  ROY UPCHURCH.

I know how good UF is, but I still dont believe they are as good as last year.  I know our style is not as beautiful as theirs, but as we all know, Bama almost always brings the competition to our level of football.  Remember, Bama was leading in the fourth quarter against the unstoppable machine known as Florida last year...He whos name will not be mentioned somehow willed his team to victory...with the help of an intentional grounding no-call and SEVERAL holding no-calls...but whatever.

This year is different.  Bama is a true 4 quarter team and very capable of overcoming adversity.  He whom I will not mention will not be able to win in that fashion against us again without a supurb team effort.

I think Bama will win.  And I will be the 1st to say it may not be as close as everyone thinks it will be.  Although I do expect another nail-biting thriller.  We will have to wait and see.  Any other thoughts?  Please spare the gloom and doom for the preview....haha.

I was pleased with the "dink and dunk"

Contrast that, which IDK actually won, vs. the “aesthetically pleasing” vertical passing in the waning moments of the Tech-Dawgs game: Three deep balls, three incompletions (two of which were beautifully defended by Jones).

Which one won?

Those were really dumb calls. Georgia Tech...

should’ve known, as we did against Auburn, that Georgia would be covering the deep ball and leaving the middle open.

I've already submitted my key to victory...

Solid Tackling, we must wrap up Tebow behind the line and not let him prance down the field like he’s the Messiah and we’re afraid to touch him for fear of damnation.

Our mistackles in the Iron Bowl leads me to believe we’re going to have to score a lot of points if we can stop the gators on third, fourth and short.

Got that winning feelin'

i agree

solid tackling is a must…

Bama's O-line will be the key.

Protect Gmac and all will be well.

I like your ideas, Jigga...

but as Hermione says, “Fear of a name only increases fear of the thing itself.” His name is Tim-bow McLoserAssFace. Let’s remember that.

9.8

It would have been a 10.0, but the Russian judge probably feels you need a few more years to catch up with the insults uga fans have been throwing at #15.

Thank you, judges...

Thank you very much. Except the Russian judge, who is, for lack of a better insult, a Butt Head.

Another thing we need to do is...

figure out how to stop Tebowdemort from getting that play off where he runs up to the line like he is going to carry it himself then flicks a little shuffle pass off to a RB. (I am sure that it has a technical name, but I don’t know it’s name) That has been the play that no one has been able to anticipate or stop all year. They ran it like a million times yesterday against FSU and they were never able to see it coming or stop it. If we shut that down 1 or 2 times, then that will be one of their bread and butter plays they will have to scrap for fear of not being able to excute it.

That would be the option...

…shovel pass. I agree wholeheartedly. We just need to play disciplined defense and not allow anyone to leak out of the backfield.

Auburn and Tennessee fans are a lot like Slinkys...neither are worth much but you do get a sense of satisfaction from pushing them down a flight of stairs

Since we're going to spy Tebowdemort

that will shut down the smash play, the dive play, and (god willin’) the shovel pass option

agreed. we need to have roy out there with Trent or Ingram at the same time

having a loaded backfield of trent, cody, and upchurch, plus peek at TE. we have so many options at our disposal, that should be the new short yardage package for sure.

also, short passes to help set up the run, eat the clock, and establish rhythm sound like a great idea to me too. but lets not get away from the pistol package entirely either. we have some great deep routes that we can run out of that, all while pounding away with effective runs from the formation as well.

yes, we need to play better next week than we did on friday. thankfully, i think we will.

for the next five days there is nothing in my heart but hate. pure, untempered, ice-cold hate. fond memories are for saturday. - Kleph

Tebowdemort...

I like that. No, I just dont like typing the name cause I know we will hear it like 15 TEBEEEEEEEEION times over the next week. Me not skurd.

We have to tackle. No YAC for Tebow. Also, we need to hit Tebowner every chance we get. I’m not talking cheap shots but if we get a chance to hit him we’de better make sure he feels it enough to second guess taking off next time. We need to get it in his head that if he runs, he will get hit HARD. Of course he’s not all we should focus on. This is just another thing that I feel needs to be done this Saturday.

Good list

I agree with everything except #6. While I think it is crucial to convert a 4th and 1/inches if we’re close enough, we need to maintain control of field position and play smart. We don’t want to tell them “we’re so afraid of you having the ball that we’re going to go for every 4th and short we get”. Hopefully we minimize 4th downs anyway.

by billycthulhu on Nov 29, 2009 3:49 PM CST reply actions

your right...

cant be stupid. im just saying if it is 3rd and long and we fight to get it to 4th and short…and are on our own 40 or so…we cant punt all the time and loose momentum. i know, big risk…big reward.

interesting

And I will be the 1st to say it may not be as close as everyone thinks it will be.

Are you calling a blowout? I don’t think that’s possible because I think both teams will have severe difficulty scoring more than 13 points. I predict a low scoring nailbiter. Take the under.

I know how good UF is, but I still dont believe they are as good as last year.
I half agree with you here. Our offense isn’t nearly as good as last season, but our defense is considerably better.

here is where we have got them

tebow gets sacked i believe more than any other qb in the sec!! if not the most he is up there! we get to him early and often!!!! we cause a few 3 and outs and have some nice looooooooonnnnnnggggg pounding drives and the game is ours!!!

The same things win that always won, and we just have a bunch of new excuses as to why we didnt achieve it!!! RDT
