MBB: Alabama 68, Michigan 66
Men's Basketball Upsets No. 15 Michigan, 68-66 to Close Out Old Spice Classic
Big win in the consolation game of the Old Spice Classic. Michigan was ranked fifteenth entering the tournament, though obviously they'd taken a loss on Friday just like the Tide. JaMychal Green had a huge game, scoring 20 points, including the final dunk to give the Tide the lead with five seconds to go, a team-high seven rebounds, and a block of a layup with one second left to secure the win.
A key for the Tide this year will be for someone to step up alongside Green and Mikhail Torrance (who had 11 points and 8 assists). Today it was Charvez Davis, who scored 12 points on four of eight shooting from behind the arc. Bama also got nine from Tony Mitchell and eight from Justin Knox.
The Tide destroyed Michigan on the boards, outrebounding the Wolverines 41-26, and held them to 6-26 shooting from three. Those are the two things I'm keeping an eye on the most... Bama did not get a lot of help from the officials, as they shot only eight free throws, while Michigan shot twenty.

Great game
I’m glad to see the improvement. They seem to be playing up to their competition now. Hopefully they can keep it up. Last year they would have folded.
RTR!!
Small but scrappy. Pretty fast too. I like the intensity and resilience Coach Grant has brought to the team. You’re right Country, last year we would have given up. I think one of the announcers said it best, we’re getting better with each game. Roll Tide Hoops Roll!!
Its early . . .
but it sure looks like for the first time in about 30 years we have a plan on offense that involves the whole team and is not just “hand it to your best player and get out of the way.” This is not an overly talented team but if they really understand what they are doing they could possibly compete in the West and at least be a tough out. But again its early.
Coach Grant is the Real Deal
It is so much fun to watch a college basketball team that is well coached, especially when it’s the Tide. It’s sad to say but our best coach in the last 30 years was Ronald Steele, our recent point guard.

Agree re: Ron Steele . . .
although I would argue Pettway may have equaled him in the coaching category. Regardless, they were the top coaches we have had.
