Roll Bama Roll MVP

As we get closer to the holidays, I think it's only fair to end the year with a friendly competition.  We've battled long and hard, endured a great deal of...actually, most of us haven't really endured much of anything.  Still, it's only appropriate that we hand out some accolades for a lot of excellent work.  So, in preparation for the LSU game (and the rest of the 2009 season) I announce the first annual Roll Bama Roll MVP.  Who is our most valuable member?  Winner receives a surprise.

Anyone else having trouble narrowing it down? I’m down to the top 3, but as with the BCS, I can’t figure out who gets the #1 slot.

Read RBR. Get better ’Bama swag. Take personal relationships to the next level.

That might even be better than, “The Champagne of ’Bama Blogs.”

rec'd......NLS is the man! He got my vote.

There are tons of good folks on here. My wife and I never miss Todd’s eating videos and OTS is better than any sports blogger out there. Also, you gotta love Bammer. Anyone that has to endure Tallahasee on a regular has my support.

That was an emotional story for me...

…because every day I think about how much I would love to talk to my grandmother. I’m so glad you were able to share that time with her. Irony is even before I read your post, I voted for NLS.

You had me at "ROLL TIDE"!!!

IHC800...

…I’m having a hard time putting into words how humbled I am by your post. Thank you for helping me remember how much what we say can mean. I’m very thankful that my small words were able to serve as some impetus for such a special moment for you and your grandmother. I’m really just about speechless.

I will say this: I’m sorry for your loss…and I like your grandmother even more now. Roll Tide. And thanks.

Jenkins…. As your dad, of course I feel I should vote for you. But as an Air Force Colonel, I still owe you one for the “Go Army beat Air Force” post earlier in the week! But I just have to reward someone who can end a post about Oregon football with the phrase: “I love me some Ducks.”

I voted for BamaGrad, open and shut for me. The movie knowledge, the funny comments, the coach mentality, easily the winner for me.

And the girl voted for you, Bammer, so at least you’re on the board now.

And also, we need to do a poll for best avatar.

Bamagrad also got my vote

if for nothing but the movie references. Found this little gem from his long-lost, yet-to-be-published literary masterpiece of a biography:
“What the government doesn’t want you to know is that neither the Russians nor the US won the space race- Bamagrad was already on the moon waving a bottle of cheap bourbon and yelling profanities at Tiger fans. Bamagrad could care less about the fame or the outright boss-ness of being an astronaut; he was there for the fine moon-bitches and won 8 gold medals in the first ever moon Olympics. Sure, some people call Bamagrad things like “loud” or “obnoxious” or “nonexistant in 1969” or “not asian,” but if thats not jealousy its downright French."

I wouldn’t really consider myself a troll on this board. If you’ve noticed, I spend a lot more time just defending my team, players, coaches, then I do flaming ‘Bama. In fact, I’m not sure if I’ve ever really bad-mouthed the Tide.

Not only are all of Pete’s votes illegitimate because he is a staffer, but we need to do away with other. Because no one wants OTHER to be the MVP, and right now OTHER is in the lead.

I

find it pretty damn interesting and insightful. A good number of us on here only have memories that go back to Stallings or later, including myself. So hearing an insider’s take from that era, even though it wasn’t always pretty, is refreshing.

Well, I appreciate OTS' endorsement

He is a good friend (although I’ve never knowingly met him) and I enjoy his opinions on things. I have to admit, though, most of the movies I quote (other than Lebowski) are the kinds of things you watch at 2 A.M. when you can’t sleep and the tyrants at DirecTv screw you with their programming.

I really wondered about including the staff members because that would be like giving Nick Saban or Kirby Smart an MVP award over Rolando McClain. Kleph would have been my choice because he’s a brave man, a regular old John Dos Passos or Bret Harte, writing away in some sleazy South American bar while pimps in Fedoras and open-shirts glare in his direction and hunchback women sweep the streets.

I included Pete Holiday because we grew up together. We play golf and have dinner once a month. We’re also members of a UFO-chaser club that tracks sightings and interviews witnesses. Pete, is your report on the faux-moon landing finished, yet? Ivan and Jeremy are really breathing down my neck about that and I’m getting sick of their goofy text messages.

I should not have made the final category other (unless people were willing to name a write-in candidate) and I chose the members on the ballot because they were the first people to come to mind and I was in a hurry. Maybe this poll will serve the same function as a primary. We’ll eliminate all but the top three or four and then have a final deathmatch (election). Coach Saban will personally yell at the winner for wasting his time.

BTW…I don’t really know Pete.

Probably 8 Saturdays a year back in the day! I knew several guys on the team between 1993-1999 or so. It seems Shelby county put a few good men at UA around that time. Some of my favorite players of all time were in that era.

by RocksinBama on Nov 4, 2009 5:32 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I was just a walk-on

My best moments came in scrimmages and A-Day games. If you saw me on a Saturday back then you saw me standing around (or watching the game from the bleachers). But it was better than playing at a D-II or D-III school. If I could go back and do it again I’d do the same thing. And I’d also play for all five years.

I am ashamed to admit this....

But I spent the better part of several games and A day games as a teenager googly-eyeing the guys on the benches through my binoculars. So chances are real good I did see you… especially if teeny-bopper me thought you were cute. I had a little crush on Jeff Wall and all he did was hold the ball… I was shameless.

I had to stop that a couple of years ago because it just got weird, and the term “cougar” wasn’t around for me to hide under.

The list of potential MVP's is a good one. I'm fairly new here at RBR.....

but I’ve noticed the true meaning of brotherhood amungst fans. Other blogs seem to have more anonymity to them and bloggers hide behind it with constant pissing matches and offer very little topic oriented insight. Not here, in my short time following these fanpost and topics from the staff I get a sense of accountability and geniune love for the game. And trust me if there is a question or hot topic on your mind RBR is the place to come for both expert and non biased answers from TRUE Bama fans and a few wannabe coaches. So, that being said I think the MVP award goes to everyone here. Some say it takes a family to make a house a home at RBR each individual opinion makes the family and I’m delighted to be part of it.

Your temper brings dishonor to my happy mooshu palace.

agreed

To the fans and everybody in SB nation: You know what? I’m sorry, extremely sorry. We were hoping for a complete blackout this whole season, that was my goal. It’s something I have never done hereat RBR. But I promise you one thing. A lot of good will come out of this. You have never seen any commenter in the entire country, drink as hard as I will drink the rest of the season. And you will never see someone push the rest of the commentariat as hard as I will push everybody the rest of this season. And you will never see more beers, bonged faster or harder than we will the rest of this season. God bless
