Keenan Allen Commits

Keenan Allen

Athlete * Greensboro, NC
6'3" * 195 lbs * Forty: 4.56

It has been a great day already with the 24-15 win over LSU, but things are just getting better and better tonight, as the news has broken that Keenan Allen has committed to Alabama. He is currently in Tuscaloosa on a visit for the LSU game.

Allen is a 6'3 and 195 pound athlete out of Greensboro, North Carolina, and he comes very highly-touted. He had offers from virtually every school in the country, and he is almost unanimously considered a five-star prospect. Scout.com has him as a five-star prospect and the #4 safety prospect in the country. Rivals, on the other hand, also has him as a five-star prospect, and the #1 safety prospect in the country. And in fact, Rivals actually rates Allen as the #9 overall prospect in the country.

Starring at Northern Guilford High, Allen effectively does it all. He's a star on the offensive side of the ball as both a runner and a receiver, and he's also a star on the defensive side of the football. He could play either side of the ball at the next level, but Alabama has been recruiting him as a wide receiver, and that is where he is expected to start his career at the Capstone.

Allen becomes the 20th commitment of 2010 recruiting class.

This upcoming season I'm gonna refer to Julio Jones as "The Magic Man" and Trent Richardson as "El Diablo"

I was wondering if we’d get this news tonight.

Frickin' love it!!

“Coach Saban told me that they want to play me at receiver and line me up on the other side of Julio so teams will be forced to pick someone to double-cover,” Allen said. “When I committed to Coach Saban, he was so excited that you could feel it over the phone. He was happier than I have ever heard him. He just told me welcome to the Alabama family and that he hoped I was ready to go to work.”

But the kid’s a liar. Saban doesn’t get “excited.” :)

Man...

he went nuclear on that substitution penalty! Not that he was alone…I was pretty upset about it, too.

I said "excited."

I didn’t say totally pissed the fuck off.

I recall other recruits saying Saban sounded excited when they informed him of their commitments. I doubt Keenan Allen is a “liar.”

after bryant denny exploded following julio's td run (and ingram's 2 point conversion)...

and i had stopped screaming and jumping up and down and all that. i thought ANY recruit in the stadium would be ours. the prospect of playing saturday’s in THAT would be impossible to resist.

Guys this is a huge pickup. The only thing about Kennan's comments that worries me is....

He said Saban want’s to line him up opposite of Julio. Thus making teams choose whom they will double cover. IMO that this kid being a freshmen next year will not get double covered. He may be a great player but he’s going to have to learn the system, gain some muscle, refine his receiver skills and make some big plays before he is considered for double coverage. And he will have to do all this in his freshman year. In his sophomore year Julio will be in the NFL.

Your temper brings dishonor to my happy mooshu palace.
