To Saban, and Belichick, the game is really simple, said Kinchen.
"Details, details, details,'' he said. "Fundamentals. And the by-product is winning. Most coaches want to win and try to figure out how to do it. That's the exact opposite of the type of coach Bill and Nick are. They teach from the ground up, and all the success comes as a by-product of doing it the right way. It's really simple.
"People think it's hard. But Nick and Bill would probably laugh at that. It's not that difficult. Do it the right way, get the kids to believe, and it's not hard at all.

This is why Coach Saban is by far the best coach in the (college) nation!

what is amazing is that everyone thinks it's some kind of secret...
but he put it all down in his book. it’s a godawful tome to read due to the motivational gobbledygook but it’s not hard to figure out the man’s approach on even the most superficial reading of the damned thing.

Well!
Now that I know that football isn’t as hard as I thought, I think I’ll go make 4 million (or more) a year! I’ve just got to be genuinely charismatic, and dark and secretive at the same time, and it’s in the bag! Do you recommend that I start my coaching career at Penn State, FSU, or should I just go straight to the NFL?

just because something is reduced to the fundamentals...
…does not mean it is simple. golf is a very basic game but almost impossible to completely master.

That's kind of my point.
Football (and golf too) are not simple games, at least to most people. It floors me that there are those like Saban and Bellicheck who find it to be so. Just the fact that hundreds of coaches out there are trying to have the success that those two have had and haven’t achieved it kind of speaks to the non-simplicity of the game to most people. It struck me as funny that he would say, “People think it’s hard. But Nick and Bill would probably laugh at that. It’s not that difficult. Do it the right way, get the kids to believe, and it’s not hard at all.” If it really were that easy, I could get a 4 million dollar job. Obviously I won’t, and neither will most people who do not have the ability to reduce a very complex game down to the fundamentals and explain it simply. In short, we have an amazing coach.

I believe it has been said that what sets Saban apart is his work ethic.

well, working longer hours is about as good a way to solve a problem as throwing money at it
sure, it’ll do a bit of good but unless you focus the effort in a systematic way, you are going to simply delay the inevitable.
when faced with a manifold problem like running a complex organization made up of numerous individuals, it’s awful damn easy to get lost in the details. having someone who keeps the whole shebang running and grounded in the fundamentals is excruciatingly hard given the legion of day-to-day difficulties that have to be faced.
to have the kind of insight to understand how to keep it all in perspective and have the organization continuing moving forward is rarer than finding that elite quarterback every team needs. but, i tell you what, find the former and the latter is a hell of a lot more likely to be choosing you on signing day.
