Off season preparations for Florida
Many of you probably remember this. Bob Stoops was sighted in Tuscaloosa prior to the season. Sources say the one day meeting between Saban and Stoops was to "Talk Defense" Also Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp was brought in to help players learn the techniques of defending the spread. At the time it seemed a little bit wishful or maybe premature for The Tide to start preparing for a potential match up with the Gators. Now that the game is upon us the off season moves seem brilliant. Alabama faced former Florida offensive coordinator and current MSU head coach Dan Mullen in Starkville. This game was hyped as a tune up for Florida. Maybe from an X's and O's standpoint it was. The Bulldogs currently run the same offensive system. Yet there is where the comparison stops. Personnel being the reason. Bama was able to stop the Bulldogs offensive scheme. Maybe the off season preparations paid off. We'll see come Saturday when it's ran with upper talent personnel.
Back to the meetings with Stoops and Muschamp. I've googled it and searched and searched. Yet I've been unable to find any real substance pertaining to the topic. So I guess what I'm trying to find out is, well anything you guys know on the issue. What should we expect to see against Florida? Saban has obviously had an eye on this match up since last years SECCG clock hit 00:00. Thanks for your help my Bama Brothers!

I'm sure it was for the Gators, but not solely
we had a hard time playing the spread last year (cough, cough Utah), and with Mullen and Malzahn new additions to the division, it was imperative to learn how to defend it.

Hey
Can someone tell me why Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson shouldnt be in the game at the same time. Can you imagine the possibilities?
i rule the f-in world
in NCAA10 when i use Roy as a FB and Ingram and the TB. i think/hope that we’ll some more of that this weekend, especially if it’s Roy. he’s our best pass blocker and our best receiver and runner after the catch, plus he runs hard as heel between the tackles. he’s an excellent compliment to Ingy and Trent. can serve as a blocker, diversion, or the receiver/ball carrier.

We will see a lot of new wrinkles this week
We saw some new stuff against Auburn, and I have to think there is some special stuff for Florida waiting.
Shorty Price Lives
They asked Saban about this.
Basically he said they are good friends (Stoops, Muschamp) and once a year he will invite them to the lake house for the weekend. At some point they inevitable end up talking football.
Hmmmm
Muschamp- DC of Texas had a strong possibility, preseason, to face FL.
Stoops- Just faced FL, Defensive coach.
Saban- Determined to face FL
Auburn fans are like slinkys... not really good for anything but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.
Wouldn't you love to be a fly on the wall at this cook out

I don't
know about new wrinkles on defense but Gentry just had an article where McElroy stated the offense has been working on a few new plays for a “few weeks” that haven’t been used yet this year and will be used this Saturday. Who knows what they have been practicing for this game.
This upcoming season I'm gonna refer to Julio Jones as "The Magic Man" and Trent Richardson as "El Diablo"

Hey
I think it was brilliant to have Cody in and pass the football for a touchdown to Upchurch. I knew then that Saban has a few wrinkles to this team that we have never seen before. I got a big smile on my face after that play, not only did it beat Auburn but it gave Florida something to think about. If we dont see Ingram and Richardson in the backfield at the same time against Florida I will be very surprised.
i dont see as much benifit to using MI and TR together.
i think if we use 2 backs the other should/would be Upchurch. Roy has a different skill set than the other two who IMO are very similar players, Roy is the best pass blocker of the bunch, and the best receiver. it seems to me that if we use TR and MI together the only question for the D is “which one takes the handoff” but when Roy’s out there, they’re almost expecting pass (most of the year so far, when roy’s been out there it’s almost a red flag that we are not running and will pass) so having a “running the ball” back and our “passing the ball” back both in at the same time, makes the D coordinators job that much tougher.

Saban
takes losing personal and has only been beaten 2 times in row by the same coach once since he came to the SEC. I think he is like 13-1 when you beat him the year before.
That being said we still have less talent than UF and they have a senior QB very few have ever stopped. Not saying we won’t win, just that it will be real, real hard to pull it off.
I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.
agreed, yet last year I believe we lost because our team didn't think they could win. Florida had been blowing teams out by 30 - 40 points per game and it somehow got into the guys heads.
This year the team believes they can win. I believe it too. After the first five games Bama looked better than Florida. I know they can do it.
