Around SBN: Bracketology 2012: Duke Finally Steps Up To The No. 1 Line

How's our line looking next year?

Mike Johnson will be gone. What about the other starters? Any chance we'll have early defections to the NFL? Who do you think will take the place of those that leave?

Drew Davis as well

One of the things I’m looking forward to in spring is the battle to fill in the spots on the line. Should be a great battle between Steen, Warmack, Boswell, Ross, and Motley for Mike Johnson’s spot, and Love, Fluker, and McCullough for Davis’s.

The other thing I’m looking forward to is seeing the QB future of McCarron and Sims.

Sims has some bad weight

Cochran’s gonna have to work him to reshape some of it, McCarron should push McElroy, making them both better, even though GMac will hold onto his starting position

we'll lose Johnson and Davis

but the others will stay. I know Carpenter was originally projected as a guard, so he could potentially move over if Fluker gets in shape. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see Tyler Love fill in Davis’ spot at RT. McCullough and Warmack are also geat talents that could fit in at the vacant LG if Carpenter stays at LT

Almost

every college team has to replace offensive linemen every year with guys that have little experience. We had to replace 3 last year, but will only need to replace 2 this next year so I think we will be better at the start of 10 then were at the start of 09.

Johnson is an All American but any of our returning 3 guys could end up being All American next year.

Bama will contiune to get bigger, stronger and faster.

I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.

I want to see Fluker

Most folks I read had him replacing Andre this year. I’d love to see him and either Love or Carpenter on the left with the other at RT. Should be plenty of depth as well.

Fluker is a hoss ....

north and south, just a stud. He needs work on footwork and speed. The staff is working on him. Carpenter has had some trouble with the same thing, thus the numerous holding calls on speedy DE’s. Hopefully the staff can fix it, but speed is speed and that won’t increase by a lot.
Boswell takes MJ’s spot, if Love stays health, he goes RT.

and this is another reason we should all praise "the process"

instead of being forced to throw “stud” recruits into the starting lineup due to lack of depth, we now can take a year and focus on their fundamentals. that means they are a hell of a lot more likely to realize their potential and, almost as importantly, will be less likely to make the errors of inexperience.

looking a little further out, this kind of training means that alabama is more likely to be producing players that nfl scouts like to slather over. the more kids that start to get pulled into the pros, the more alabama is seen as a destination for talent eager to go play on sundays eventually.

How about the D-line?

I know we’re losing a LOT of people, so I’m wondering how that’s going to look next year.

Barron, Green, and Kareem

Return in the secondary with Phelon Jones, BJ Scott, and Kirkpatrick providing some knowledge of the system. Hightower, Harris, Patrick, Jordan, and Nico bring the lb’s. As for the line, Dareus, Chapman, Murphy, Davis, and Square round that out, with young’uns like Ming providing depth support
