Alabama offensive coordinator Jim McElwain reportedly interviewed last week for the head coaching job at San Jose State, but it appears that he is out of the picture for that opportunity.
According to Tom Dienhart, the national senior writer for Rivals.com, McElwain and Washington quarterback coach Doug Nussmeier have turned down the San Jose State job.
Gentry Estes: McElwain out of the picture at San Jose State?
So much for the concerns of McElwain's possible departure being a distraction. It looks like he has already turned down the San Jose State job a full four days before practice even begins.

Considering there...
……are only 120 of these jobs in the world, I suppose it’d be poor form if you didn’t at least interview given the opportunity (especially having never been a head coach before, but clearly having aspirations.)
Jim
Please get back to planning for Texas. Thanks!
but...
…I wanted to set my hair on fire…thanks Jimbo…

Maybe tubby could
you know find the HC position he’s been wanting. Hell, it’d give him another shot at bama.
Hopefully (prayers sent), we can get back to
focusing on preperations for the horns with minimal distractions.
'Mark Ingram' is the Heisman Winner!
Exactly.
Practice starts in a few days, let’s get everybody back to town, get them calmed down and get ready to hit the field at 4000% energy on the first day.
i just have this odd feeling that
Saban entered into the film room last week…and hasn’t left yet. Don’t be surprised if he’s a little pale come Jan 7th.
"The goal is to be a champion," Saban said. "I didn’t say to win a championship. I just said be a champion. That’s our goal here. That’s what we want to do."- Nick Saban
It sounds like Stanford OC David Shaw is the frontrunner for the job, they’ll announce for sure in a few hours. I think, hopefully Jim will stick around another year and get a shot at a better situation than SJSU

The SJSU job
is a death sentence…considering the Spartans have discussed actually abandoning the program altogether, I think you can understand the institutional support (and lack thereof) for the game. It was a terrible way for Craft, Tomey and Long to flame out…

If he's smart...
Which he clearly appears to be, he’ll wait a year before really going for a hc position. Given that next year we’ll return nearly our whole offense, including a senior qb and a pretty good running back or two, not to mention a possible dropoff on our defense requiring us to open up a bit more, he should be able to elevate his stature and get a job at a BCS school this time next season.
