Who saw the ESPN 30 for 30 program "The U"?
I forgot why it was so much fun to hate Miami. If you guys haven't seen it you have to DVR it. Am I the only one that thought Bernie Kosar was drunk during the entire show? I didn't realize that the Miami teams of the 80's were almost single-handedly responsible for the NCAA instituting anti-celebration rules. I have to admit though...college football sure was a little more fun to watch when they were running wild. I still remember the t-shirts for the ND vs. Miami games... "Catholics vs. the Convicts", "Saints vs. the Sinners" It's a great program...check it out.

I read...
somewhere where he has a dibiliating disease of some sort. I’m no fan of the “U” but quite enjoyed the show. Gave good in depth feel for what goes on behind the scenes!

Watched it after the heisman
until I remembered the Purdue game. Managed to watch the rest of it later, and I have to say the 30 for 30 movies have been exceptional. The U was actually a really great and interesting documentary, and while I’m glad my team doesn’t act like that I enjoyed their hijinx and attitude. Plus anyone who wants to punch a ND player in the face is a friend of mine.
Fight on, fight on, fight on men! Remember the Rose Bowl, we’ll win then.
I didn't watch the end because of the purdue game
but didn’t they skip the 92 Sugar Bowl?
You play fast, you play strong, you go out there and dominate the guy you play against, and make his ass quit! That's our trademark, that's our MO as a team, aight, that's what people know us as! - Nick Saban, 2008
yes
very convenient, wasnt it? One second it was 1990 or 1991 and then they skipped right to 1995…bastards
"You have to create 6 seconds of hell each play..."

I said almost the exact same thing
to my hubby when we were watching it. When the show got to where it would have shown the ‘92 National Championship, they just skipped right past it! Guess they didn’t want to show how many time Torretta was sacked in that game!

That's why I watched the freakin show...
92 was just as much about the “swagger” as the previous 10 years, but they skipped it altogether. Pissed me off!

have to totally agree....
with ya on that Bozeman.. I’ll be the first to say I love the man upstairs but ND is just a program I love to hate!

I liked how Jimmy Johnson
wanted to destroy Notre Dame.
I don’t know how Notre Dame won that game in 1988. I remember watching it and being stunned. Notre Dame got every single break and won 31-30 despite giving up almost 500 yards. Da U had like seven turnovers or something.
MATRIX: Bennett, I thought you were--
BENNETT: Dead? You thought wrong. Ever since you had me thrown out of the unit, I've been waiting to pay you back. Do you know what today is, Matrix? Payday.
ND won because the zebras missed a call on the goal line. They called a TD a fumble. The Miami guy was clearly down way before the ball came out.
Your temper brings dishonor to my happy mooshu palace.
maybe I stand corrected...
they did show the sugar bowl when Miami was like #2 and Bama was ranked #7.

yeah...true but
they didn’t show us throttle them in the next meeting…They showed the other NC defeats but disregarded ours. I was unimpressed with the whole show…just as I was unimpressed with the U back then.
" I should keep my words soft and sweet in case I have to eat them."
They didn't show
George Teague humiliating Lamar Thomas or Bama’s defense ruining Gino Toretta’s professional career. I have no love for Notre Dame, but IMO, those Miami teams were a disgrace to college football and helped to legitimize the lack of class and sportsmanship that now exists in the “look at me” attitude in sports today. The one thing I distinctly remember about the Bama game they showed (not in the documentary) was Bill Curry grabbing Prince Wembley’s facemask and almost ripping his head off for “showboating” like those jerks from Miami.
I
saw it and thought it was rather well done. I was unaware that there was such a “gap” between the football team and school/academic side. I also couldn’t help but notice that the filmaker seemed to inject the whole “poor city kids making millions for the school but they can’t afford to eat” template at every opportunity.

The other 30 30 docs are cool too, and a lot shorter, “Small Potatoes: Who Killed the USFL?” was interesting, it made Donald Trump look like a big douche, so its probably pretty accurate. “The Band That Wouldn’t Die” on the Baltimore Colts marching band that stayed together after the team moved to Indianapolis was a great story that I was only slightly aware of.

I watched The U after seeing Ingram win the Heisman
Failing to make any mention whatsoever of the ’93 Sugar Bowl game was unfortunate IMO because I always thought that game marked the on-field downfall of U. of Miami as an elite program.
On the other hand, I had completely forgotten about the 1991 Cotton Bowl when Miami had over 200 yards in penalties and still utterly humiliated Texas to the tune of 46-3. One of the former Miami players recounted how, as they de-planed in Dallas, a guy in a cheesy cowboy costume gave each of them a gift bag which contained as a momento a miniature bale of cotton. The Miami player dryly remarked that some of the African-Americans on the team took umbrage. I laughed really hard but felt bad about it later.
ESPN’s “30 for 30” is a great series.

Need to check out some of the others...
I might see if I can check out some of the others….for comic effect the touchdown and sack celebrations will be tough to top. The dude shooting out of the tunnel with “hand pistols” was so completely over the top I was laughing out loud. I can’t remember if Bo Jackson’s run to the tunnel in the NFL was before or after the Miami player ran to the tunnel.
