Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

MBB: Kansas State 87, Alabama 74

Box score

Kansas State led all the way, jumping out to a 20-6 lead six minutes in the game, and though Alabama kept fighting, they were never really back in it, trailing by as much as 21 points.  As usual, the Tide was led by JaMychal Green (with 17) and Mikhail Torrance (with 20).

Bama was killed on the boards, outrebounded 33-18.  The Tide is undersized by major conference standards, but has usually done a better job of holding its own.  No Alabama player had more than Senario Hillman's four rebounds.

Kansas State is #22 in the country and first in RPI, so the loss (on a "neutral" court in Mobile) isn't surprising, but the inability to keep it close is.  They tried, and were able to get a little run to close the lead to eight with seven minutes to go, but tonight were just outclassed.

That was poor

As was the samford game. Backlash from a heartbreaking loss against Purdue, no doubt.

I'll agree.

We have not rebounded from Purdue.

In this game we just got too far behind early and although the team kept fighting we could not come back on a very good team.

But, better days are ahead.

I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.

nothing much to say

First time all year we were outclassed. Only good thing to take away is we fought back in the second half, but it was too little too late.

I’ll reiterate—we can not lose any of the next three games. We must beat Mercer and Tennessee State at home and then close out our nonconference slate with a road win at Toledo. We simply can’t lose one of those if we want to keep our tournament dreams alive.

Absolutely

There are no excuses if we lose one of those games. The thing this year is that we have a very good setup. The SEC is much better this year (which helps our resume) but it’s not too difficult to win a good amount of games. The west is still weak, as LSU is rebuilding, Arkansas hasn’t looked very good, and Auburn basketball is well, Auburn basketball. I think we are going to have to beat out one of the Mississippi teams and finish #2 in the west in order to make the tournament.
