There's a bunch of great players on both teams. Florida has so much speed. I think you'll see Alabama will outscheme Florida, and Florida has given up 28 sacks this year when a bunch of guys come free. But the problem is Superman (quarterback Tim Tebow) is back there. It comes down to can you tackle him.

"It will be a real interesting matchup. Florida has better players, and Alabama has better coaches, so we'll see."

Gentry Estes: Wednesday Briefing

That quotes come, per Gentry, from the mouth of Lane Kiffin. In any event, it's an interesting take on things.

WOW. Just WOW.

Is there anything this guy won’t say?

by M. Johnson Defender on Dec 2, 2009 1:36 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I don't know if what he said is correct...

but interesting perspective in that it comes from a coach who went against both of us. I hope he’s wrong about our players.

by crimsontsunami on Dec 2, 2009 1:42 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Kiffin's only perspective...

…is how he can take a pot shot at Florida and Urban Meyer. You got to give him credit, if nothing else he is good for a quote or two. I am sure its got to be a lot better than covering Fulmer.

Totally

agree with you. I think that’s all he is doing.

well they should have better players...

They’ve been recruiting at a high rate for the last say…15 years without any stoppage…we haven’t exactly had the same fate..

We'll get there.

For now, we gotta put a little bit “extra” in there on Saturday and beat them despite any disadvantage.

this guy is all about headlines. if for one moment the spotlight turns away from him, he will say what ever it takes to get it back on him. so this week we’re talking all about Florida and Alabama, so he has to subtly dig at both sides to get people talking about him. he’s a diva, and an ass.

by cjbama on Dec 2, 2009 1:42 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

ok...

im not a Kiffin fan but im not exactly sure he siad anything here that says he’s “looking for the spotlight”. He actually seems to be making a fair judgment.

Agree.

I mean, really, does EVERYTHING he says have to have some kind of hidden (evil) intent? People around here are starting to sound a little deranged.

by crimsontsunami on Dec 2, 2009 2:00 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

deranged is kind of a stretch. nobody said anything about any evil intent. he makes inflammatory statements to get attention. he has in the past, and I think this is just an extension of that trend. quite clearly taking a dig at urban meyer, at the very least.

by cjbama on Dec 2, 2009 2:10 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

god...you have me defending kiffin..i hate you...

Why is that a dig? He didn’t say that Saban was a better coach, just that the UA coaching staff is better…just like its not a dig to say UF players (as a complete team) might just be better than Bamas…

hey, you’re the one who’s chosen this path, my friend.

I guess I see it as a dig because Kiffin is a digger. Just like after the Kentucky game he made some backhanded statement about Kentucky football. Just like his entire tenure at Tenn. The man runs his mouth. And so when the guy whose made his name talking s[mack] – to such an extent it is the noted quality to which he is attached in a popular hip-hop song – makes a statement like this, I tend to assume he’s being an ass, because, well, it’s his nature.

by cjbama on Dec 2, 2009 2:21 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I don't think it was a dig.

But I do apologize for the “deranged” comment. I should’ve said something more along the lines of, people around here tend to have knee-jerk reactions to certain players/coaches no matter what they say or do (Tebow, Kiffin especially).

lil'lane' has made these snide remarks with hidden messages since he has been at ut.

he has no decent recruits in that sorry state where his university exists so he, like a lot of other schools, has to go into florida to get any decent players. so, go figure why he would knock UF’s coaching staff. i guess winning 2 sec and 2 bcsnc in four years means you are not a good coaching staff in lil’ lanes’ weak mind. i only hope that he and his staff can live up to his lofty expectations……….we will all see!!! right now, he is where he belongs, 2nd place in the sec east. ;-)

Kiffin? In The Spotlight? No Way!

I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.

I agree...

when I was reading it, I was thinking that it was insightful and interesting. Then, I read who said it and imediately wanted to write it off as him being an ass; I think my initial thougts are true, he was just stating the facts and his honest opinion.

What about THIS one, from the companion piece
“They are so schematically sound,” Kiffin said. “If you do start to beat them, Nick and Kirby [Smart, the defensive coordinator] are so good. They adjust. They are an NFL staff. NFL offenses will expose you, but can you adjust?”

Kiffin called Saban’s Crimson Tide “the best-coached team in the country. They have few penalties. They allow few sacks. They’re very disciplined. They don’t give up big plays.”

He is talking out of both sides of his mouth. After the UT game this year, he made excuses for the loss by pointing out that UT had significantly more penalties than Bama. That started the ref rule.

I don't give 2 shits what Lane Kiffin says.

It’s only a matter of a few more years before CNS processes him out of knoxville. UT is about 2 monts in the past, lets concentrate on the game at hand.

by usmaTider on Dec 2, 2009 4:31 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Kiffin should be quiet...

I’m sure it’s going to help him recruit against Saban when recruits read all this stuff in the paper…

Also, if he’s so intent on publicly breaking down a game with that much candor, he should have some patience. I’m sure someone will pick him up as an analyst in a few years when UT cans him.
