All things Tebow...

I was watching the Tony Barnhardt show from this week and I think it was Gary Danielson who was talking about how Florida needs to run a spread with no backs. I think he might actually be on to something (amazing I know). If bama has to get into a nickel formation to stop the passing game then Tebow could light us up on the ground. Normally I would say, make him throw it and shut down the run, cause our corners can cover. But, as Tebow proved last year he can put it where only his guy can get it. He thrives in the big game...

I don't mean to go all T-boner, but how would you go about scheming up on this guy? Because of his size, we need to keep our larger linebackers in. But in doing so we are more prone to giving up the pass against their tightends etc. There in lies the obvious catch-22. So how/what would you do if you had to draw up a game plan for Florida?

I'll take first stab...

Hit Tebow every ####ing play. Even when our offense is on the field, we should be sure to have a reciever come accross the field, run out of bounds and go helmet to helmet on this dude (jk Florida fans).  But seriously, if Tebow fakes a hand-off and keeps the ball then he should expect to get plowed*. Same goes when he does hand-off and then fakes the keep. In other words, if there is a chance he has the football, then lay him out (thats part of the game right?)! He has obviously been shaken up this year and I think we can really get in his head (see middle part of the season). We can't sit back and let him play his game. Last year there were some plays that our players let up on him, when they should have let him have it. If it costs us 15 yards here or there, then so be it. God knows people will be crying about us being too ruff on him though. What else to you guys and gals got? Am I way out of line?

*getting plowed could get him excited ; )

I was watching the FL/LSU game and noticed that when Tebow scambles, it looks like...

he’s running in slow motion, but nobody seems to be able to get him down until he gets the first down or a touchdown.

Then when he takes a snap, he runs along side of Rainey/James and it’s like a shell game trying to figure who has the ball.

I’ll be so glad when he moves on out of the college ranks.

Got that winning feelin'

unfortunately,

if we make McClain his spy, then that puts Reamer on coverage for Hernandez, and I’m not so sure that’s the best idea

why do people keep wanting to make McClain

his spy? This is a horrible idea and it would never, ever happen.

Blah.

I think we’re in for a tough one. Floridas just so damn good. We’ve got to have our most perfect game if we expect a shot at winning. The defense can’t give up the big play, or even consistent gains. I think the key is simply moving the ball on offense against their very stingy D thus hopefully putting up points, but more so keeping our defense rested because if they start moving the ball we’re in for a looooong game. Also we have to win the endurance battle. Last year we got tired and couldn’t keep our pace up at the end of the game, and that cost us a W. It’s apparent from the LSU game that we’re very much more in shape and conditioned compared to last year, but is it enough? It’s obvious, we have to play championship caliber on every down and take advantages on the plays they don’t. Turnovers have to be point producers, and red zone trips have to end in TD’s NOT FG’s because you can guarantee if we don’t take advantage of opportunities, then they sure as hell will. 4 hard quarters fought with pride and heart and I see no reason why we don’t have the chance to win this one. It’s been a good ride this year and these boys deserve this game. All they gotta do is take it.
At the same time they could even spoil Timmys farewell season with a little asswhoopin. Lord I love the possibilities

It's not the will to win, but the will to prepare to win that makes the difference.

How to stop Florida's offense (& enjoy a pre-game toast with skigator)

Very simply – stack the box. Nine players every down and bring the heat often.

I swear I have heard “hit Tebow on every play and get inside his head” argument from virtually every team we have played the past 3 seasons. That is exactly how you lose to Florida. Hitting Tebow fires him up and actually makes him play better.

If you simply stack the box – and stop the dive play, you will stop the offense. There are only 2 WRs that Tebow throws to, being Hernandez and Cooper. If you have 9 in the box, it makes it hard for Hernandez to run his route and get open. If you want to put a helmet on someone every play – Hernandez is the guy to hit, not Tebow. That leaves 1 player to cover – Cooper. While he is a decent WR (when he gets away with his jersey grabs and such), a talented CB could surely cover him one on one. He is tall and deceivingly athletic and fast, so it will have to be a good DB. One thing that helps cover Cooper is that he drops at least 1 out of every 3 balls that hit his hands. A habit that has earned him the moniker “Dickfingers” amongst many in the Gator Nation. I am not certain whether or not he actually has penises (peni?) in lieu of fingers, but his dropsies certainly seem to support the theory.

While Urban is a great coach and we are lucky to have him – he is stubborn. If hitting his head against a brick wall (i.e the dive play) isn’t working, he will not change the approach. He will continue diving – thinking it will work eventually. We have run about a handful of plays from under center this season and it has resulted in a good gain almost 100% of the time. Yet, the shotgun spread is the Urban way, so that is what we run.

More importantly, any of you Bammers (yeah, even you “Bammer”) are welcome to come have a drink with my group at our tailgate. Our normal parking area fell through due to City issues, but we plan to be in the Blue Lot on Northside Drive near Thurmond Street. Look for the “GatorTailgating” banner and the 7 foot inflatable Gator. I hope to meet some of you in person. Bring your jackets too – it’s supposed to be pretty frigid.

Looking forward to a great one.

Agree.

Just hitting Tebow does not really work. Everybody has been trying that for 3 years and it hasn’t worked yet. His concussion was a fluke, something you could not duplicate if you tried. The odds of him getting another concussion are minimal at best.

I agree that stopping the dive play is the key. Beyond that I’d say making Tebow beat us with his arm and not his legs. Make him pass from the pocket, do not let him get on the move.

And hope for a little luck. That is what MSU had with 2 pick 6’s. Have even one of those and we could win.

Our offense must hold the ball for long periods of time and we must score td’s. In fact if we send in Tiffin for more than one FG we are going to lose.

i think there's still value to be found in pounding the ever living shit out of tebow at every opportunity

seriously, we dont need to do anything against the rules, just be sure to hit his ass,HARD, everytime he fakes like has the ball, as well as everytime he DOES have the ball.

but skigator made another really good point that i hadn’t even considered (i bet CNS did though) that to stop hernandez, one “easy” way is to hit his ass and knock him down on every snap. if he lines up as a TE and split end, then we should pound him into the ground and completely ruin the timing of any routes he was planing on running.

The only problem with hitting Hernandez

Is that he’s a load. He’s bigger than most LBs. And you can’t have a DE do it because it could leave a void for one of the microbacks to spurt through on a running play. It would surely take away that damn option shovel pass that we now seem to run 8 times a game (it was cool when we ran it once after a lot of normal option plays).

The only thing I could take away from the Auburn game, is that I hope we have some sort of reverse package, as Bama’s D seemed to overpursue a lot.

Hey

I’m all for hitting Tebow—I really don’t like him one bit. But I don’t think hitting him hard every time he has the ball makes much difference in the way he plays.

Now if Cody could do a body slam on him maybe it would effect his play.

And by the way it seems the best way to bring Timmy down is tackle him low. When he gets hit high he often just bounces off. So, if you hit him low to bring him down you aren’t really doing that much physical damage to him.

I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.

Well I disagree...

Go figure. But there is a difference between Tebow hitting players and players hitting Tebow. I don’t care who you are, if you don’t get a single play off, and you get hit almost every down its going to have an impact. The problem is that we let him take plays off… He was rattled for several games after Kentucky and I am sure we can stir up some reminiscent angst…
