Yea Alabama lyrics
In a previous post I asked if anyone knew the original lyrics to Yea Alabama. Years ago I saw the original lyrics to the song and I distinctly remember it mentioned other teams besides Ga. Tech and UGA. I seem to recall a mention to the Sewanee Tigers and Tulane. I looked around the Web and couldn't find anything. In fact, there seems to be some confusion on the lyrics we actually sing (e.g. every Bama mans behind you v. every Bama fans behind you and Drown 'em tide v. Crimson Tide). If anyone knows where to find the original lyrics I would greatly appreciate the input.

Let the Swanee Tiger scratch, Let the Yellow Jacket sting,
Let the Georgia Bulldog bite,
Alabama still is right!
And whether win or lose we smile,
For that’s Bama’s fighting style:
You’re Dixie’s football pride, Crimson Tide!
A-L-A-B-A-M-A
Yea, Alabama! Drown ‘em Tide!
Every ’Bama man’s behind you,
Hit your stride.
Go teach the Bulldogs to behave,
Send the Yellow Jackets to a watery grave.
And if a man starts to weaken,
That’s his shame!
For ’Bama’s pluck and grit have
Writ her name in Crimson flame.
Fight on, fight on, fight on men!
Remember the Rose Bowl, we’ll win then.
Go, roll to victory,
Hit your stride,
You’re Dixie’s football pride,
Crimson Tide!
Thanks a ton for that
Guess I need to memorize the first section now.

the melody to the first part is called Vintage Yea Alabama. Look on YouTube and you will find that the Million Dollar Band used to play it in pregame

for the next five days there is nothing in my heart but hate. pure, untempered, ice-cold hate. fond memories are for saturday. - Kleph
Perhaps the melody is the lead up the band always plays before the
known lyrics start. It does seem to fit. Or am I being Capt. Obvious here?

It's an old song written with words that made perfect sense back then.

I love our fight song!
I can hear it anywhere and instantly recognize it. It brings a tear to my eye and puts a smile on my face. My chest swells up and my arm instantly goes up (whether there is a pom pom in it or not) and begins to keep rhythm with it. And I love the words. And I love singing them inside BDS.

Tell me honestly,
is there anything you don’t like about our fight song?

the music I have no problem with, like you said, "instantly recognizable"
it’s the lyrics I can’t stand. They sound ignorant and uneducated, and are completely irrelevant. The Dawgs and Jackets wouldn’t crack the top 10 on our rivalry list. Old-fashioned is fine, but ours falls somewhere between antiquated and obsolete

Ignorant and uneducated?
One of the things I like about the song is that only the ignorant and uneducated would fail to realize the former significance of the references to Bulldogs and (particularly) the Yellow Jackets. It’s old school, just like our football program. ‘Writ’ may not be common, but it’s not improper or wrong.

easy killer,
i meant the part about the dawgs and jackets was irrelevant. And yes, I do believe “pluck and grit have writ” sounds ignorant; it certainly isn’t Faulkner-esque by any means
