Saturday Bowl Games Open Thread
After having to sit through a painful football-less Christmas -- seriously, when will I ever get NFL Network back, and how in the world do you have 34 bowl games and not schedule a single one on Christmas Day? -- football finally returns today with a fairly decent slate of games. Marshall v. Ohio kicks things off at noon, and then we have some good match-ups this afternoon and tonight... Pitt v. North Carolina, and Boston College v. USC. Chime in here with all of your comments.

a whole season of SEC and ACC games avaiable at the touch of the button. Unfortunately, they’re not available during the off-season, when you need them most.

Marshall vs Ohio
It’s like a clinic in bad football (granted I’ve only been watching the third quarter.)

I think that was..
the first I ever blogged with the entire game. I remember OTS commenting on my dislike of JPW. I still wonder what would of happened if McElroy would have went in in the fourth.

I just
heard that man. That is crazy. I don’t think anyone expected that. I heard it is because of his health. We should hear more soon.
This upcoming season I'm gonna refer to Julio Jones as "The Magic Man" and Trent Richardson as "El Diablo"

I had heard he had health problems
Then he went to the hospital after the SECCG, so that has to have something to do with it

I was thinking...
who will be CNS main rival now?

I know..
this is so wierd….
Is this what Saban meant by “make their ass quit”

gloating at a time like this is massively uncool.

not gloating at all...
simply a reaction to comments. I do believe some stated that it will hurt the SEC, and I totally agree. I also understand he has health problems, and it is unfortunate. I hope this time away for recovery is exactly what he and his family needs.
" I should keep my words soft and sweet in case I have to eat them."
i meant it more as a general suggestion than chastising anyone in particular.

Truely remarkable...
I, for one, hate to see Urban go. He was a damn good coach, one of the bed of this decade. He brought alot to the conference and he will be missed. Also, guys enough with some of these tasteless comments on it, he has health issues. We should all keep him and his family in our prayers…On a side not, this does certainly put our program in a position to take control of the SEC as Florida was for almost 5 years.

i disagree...
it’s to alabama’s advantage to have a strong conference opponent. one of the reasons this year’s squad has accomplished so much was because they were so focused on the matchup with the gators at the end of the season. losing meyer is a massive blow to the entire conference and we’ll all be poorer for it.
Roll 'Bama Roll: The Champagne of 'Bama Blogs.
I hope not
We where all just commenting on how the conference was becoming stronger, Arkansas, Tenn, LSU on the rise.
Got that winning feelin'
i'm wondering about that actually...
lets set aside the urband <3 tebow bull for a second and look at it pragmatically.
the loss of tebow and a boatload of seniors means florida is looking at beginning the process of reloading. that’s means investing the next three years or so bringing the program back to the level it’s at right now (not that i think they would fall off the face of the earth, mind you). it makes sense that meyer considered that in light of whatever this health issue is and asked himself if he really would be able to commit himself to that.
Roll 'Bama Roll: The Champagne of 'Bama Blogs.
Well I agree with you..
As I said in my comment the conference is better with Urban…I liked having a strong florida, as they are almost the antithesis of Alabama…it is sad to seem Urban Meyer go, he was a great coach.

i would say they are more of a nemesis
than an antithesis. the former suggests an opposing equal whereas the latter implies the exact opposite.

Well yea but the way I see it,
They are the exact opposite in the way they play football and, especially, in thier offensive style…

The folks over at
Rocky Top Talk are eating this up, stating the SEC East is wide open now.
Got that winning feelin'
it is
UF’s losing a ton of starting talent, charlie strong and urban meyer. UT’s definitely on the upswing, no matter how much i hate them, and you can only figure UGA to be down for just so long. hell, as bad as the east looks these days, kentucky may even be in th emix
he was injured. injured bad.
This is Tebow's comment
before knowing of the resignation.
Tebow said Meyer didn’t seem unhealthy leading up to the game, but that the loss coupled with distractions surrounding the team might have taken a toll on him.

WE MADE HIS ASS QUIT!
Ok, seriously, all joking aside, I hate to hear this. He was good for the SEC, like him or hate him, but his health is WAAAAY more important.
Now they are saying it could be related to brain cysts he has had problems with (headaches brought on by stress). I hope he is ok, we should all say a prayer for him and his family. Walking away from something you love has got to be incredibly tough.

one thing's for sure...
from now on out, his life is going to be a living hell whenever a plum coaching gig comes open.

good fit, same offense and he would be cheap to aquire.

What will this do...
to recuiting?
Meyer stepping down and DC Strong headed to Louisville. The new OC must feel like the last guy at the dinner table, stuck with the check.
And those poor juniors, “We is everybody going?”. The Pouncey twins are gone no doubt.

ESPN just reported that Urban is staying on staff with UF
just not as a coach

Good for Urban
It is a little early to draw any conclusions but whatever this means for the rest of the SEC is say good for him. He is already financially set. He has won 2 national championships. He can still contribute to the program (recruiting?). Sounds like he has his priorities straight.
Nevertheless I am sure Lane Kiffin is absolutely giddy now. Yuck.

And, yes, we hope the team we just beat the shit out of in the SEC Championship game doesn’t decide to go after our coach who is getting ready to play in the NCG…HA HA most Okie fans are very football knowledgeable…guess there are always exceptions!

I commented elsewhere on the Urban news...
…hate to see him gone. The Saban-Meyer rivalry was shaping up to be one for the ages.
Now on to something else. Damn you idiot MWC replay official, damn you BC OC. I guess it is nice to see that horrible officiating takes place outside the SEC. Still, I wanted another USC loss. The replay guy blew two huge calls in that game. Also, whoever is the OC for BC needs his ass fired. They come out in the 2nd half and pass on 1st, 2nd and 3rd downs, all 12-20 yard passes. I guess he didn’t see his team gashing USC on the ground in the first half. He also didn’t believe in a short pass or a screen. Dammit, I wanted to take sole possession of the “most bowl wins” back.
OK, rant over.
Auburn and Tennessee fans are a lot like Slinkys...neither are worth much but you do get a sense of satisfaction from pushing them down a flight of stairs
If BC had an O-line, they would have won
you can’t blame this one of the officials IMO. But to see USC sweet most of it out makes me a happy camper.

I don't blame them entirely for this loss for BC
I mostly blame the OC at BC. Bonehead went away from what worked in the 1st half. Still, the OOB non-catch in the first half down around the 3 yard line should have been over turned on replay. Also the punt that hit a USC player’s foot and then was covered by BC, that should have been over turned as well. Instead they came out with the bogus “blocked into the kick”. He wasn’t blocked into it, he was engaged and neither player was gaining much ground, it was a stalemate. If it had hit the BC player, would it have been dead ball there? I was just pointing out that we are not the only conference with officiating problems. I just hate to see SC with “our” record. Even if we win on Jan 7th, we will still be tied and SC has a decided advantage in usually playing the B10 in their bowl games. If they fall apart in the next few years, then they may actually start playing some teams with speed in the bowls.
Auburn and Tennessee fans are a lot like Slinkys...neither are worth much but you do get a sense of satisfaction from pushing them down a flight of stairs
I agree
but even through that, there were several key plays where the O-line couldn’t give the QB anytime to throw. To the point it was ridiculous.
