That's right, the loser has to sing the embodiment of all that is horrible with football and music, that great ode to the joys of mating with mutant Bear/Cat women, life without modern conveniences, and Appalachian murder, Rocky Top. Rocky Top is a great song
It just is.
It’s been co-opted by Tennessee but that’s not the song’s fault. If you’re forced to sing it, try and disassociate the song with UT in your mind. Pretend it’s 1968, before they got their orange fingers on it.
Hell, I learned it on piano during the UT week in October, and sang it all week just for fun. Don’t let Tennessee dictate the things you love, if you do that…. They win.

I could go on. Rocky Top is a fantastic folk song if you just separate it from it’s UT relationship. If you can’t do this, your brain might be damaged, get help.

If the logic of you and the Alabama fans you know goes something like….
“Manitellyouwhut, man… if it ain’t Alabama, then, son, I sure don’t like it! And I tell you another thang man… them thangs that them other teams likes… they dumb. ….then you should reconsider how you view the world, this is a myopic and taken too far can be a dangerous way to look at things. I’m not trying to offend you but I don’t know any other way to say that.

Paint it however you want, but saying that an Alabama fan has to like Rocky Top in order to be reasonable is probably the most bizarre thing I’ve ever heard.

This is our biggest rival we are talking about. They play it ALL the time….just hearing the song makes my ears bleed…There are a lot of songs that rival bands play during games that don’t have the same affect..but Rocky Top..hell no…I’d like to know how many country radio stations play that song in the state of alabama over the course of a year? Im thinking the # would be closer to 0 than 10…
and btw…why do you think Todd and EDSBS picked this song? Its not b/c it has a nice ring to it and the loser would sound cool while recording it..

I guess I’m coming from the standpoint that I tried to look at the song outside of it’s relationship to UT. To me it sounds a lot different as a bluegrass song than when they’re screaming it at Neyland. I didn’t like the song when that’s all I had heard, but several years ago I heard the Osborne Brothers recording and thought “Wow, that’s pretty damn good.” I guess asking people to separate the song from UT on a Bama blog is too much, and borderline inappropriate. If so, I’ll just cede defeat here.

But, yeah… everything by Nickelback is trash. Except “Rockstar.” That’s trash, but it’s fun.

The song itself refers to itself as an awesome ‘hit’. The first 14 seconds of the song should tell you everything you need to know.

I agree with your list...
…except for Nickelback. I actually like the music and a couple of their songs has good lyrics. Also, as a lad in HS in the 80’s, I can tell you that “Rule the World” is by that annoying band known as Tears for Fears.
Auburn and Tennessee fans are a lot like Slinkys...neither are worth much but you do get a sense of satisfaction from pushing them down a flight of stairs
You made a bet where if you win, someone sings Rocky Top? I’m confused. I definitely see the pain of losing this bet, but I’m not sure how anyone really wins.
