Alabama walk-on quarterback Thomas Darrah is looking to transfer to a smaller program at the end of this semester.
Darrah visited Jacksonville State this past weekend, the Anniston Star reported today. Darrah's father Tommy told the newspaper that his son had been given permission to pursue a transfer and that the word was JSU's coaching staff "wants Thomas to come to Jacksonville State."
This week Darrah has portrayed Florida quarterback Tim Tebow on Alabama's scout team.

Hat tip to RBR reader SweetHomeAla on this one, and best wishes to Darrah. He obviously has some great physical tools, and honestly his biggest problem is the abundance of talent around him. His only sin was bad timing... had he been at Alabama earlier in the decade, he probably would have started a lot of games. Best of luck to you, Mr. Darrah, and thanks for all the hard work.

Hmmmm....
after “This week Darrah has portrayed Florida quarterback Tim Tebow on Alabama’s scout team” he wants to transfer. Could this mean that our defense have played lights out this week in practice?
Darrah will make an immediate impact for Jacksonville State. Next year
With AJ comming off a redshirt season and five star Phillip Simms comming in as a frosh Star Jackson will put in for a transfer also. Bet it. AJ and Phillip are the future of Alabama football.

With star being second string
this year why would he put in as a transfer? Did he not develope as you had hoped?
AUBURN is back!
Second half of Chatt. should answer that....
poor clock management and taking a loss on a play rather than throwing it away and losing a chance for a field goal is not what Saban is looking for in a QB.
Got that winning feelin'
also being run down by FCS D-Linemen...
for a “mobile QB” i have not seen any evidence of that. i’ve never been big on Star as everyone else seems to be – reminds me a bit of Andrew Zow and not in a good way. Mechanics don’t look good, holds the ball a long time and it isn’t mobile.
i’ve liked Durrah – he is a decent QB who could start at a number of FBS schools and any FCS school – he has a cannon. Good look to him.
And McCarron is the next QB.
Andrew Zow...

The combo
of Zow and Watts was epic. I was just a kid but I really think that’s what cemented my love for Bama football.

No he hasn't developed as I at first thought he would. In fact the more I see him play the more I realize he has a long way to go.

This is a wise move for Darrah...a 6'-6 QB would be a great asset for Jack St.
Phillip Simms bring a lot more tools as a mobile qb than Star Jackson.
Got that winning feelin'
Thats it, Simms is the full package. I watched him on ESPNU and was very impressed.
He also has better arm strength than Star. Thats very important against the speed in SEC secondary’s. Did I mention he’s big and hard to tackle?

agreed...after that game, he said he would try to get to Tuscaloosa by late December...
even though I don’t understand, doesn’t he need to graduate?
Got that winning feelin'
If he has all his required credits...
…then he can graduate early and enroll in for the spring.

Natch the "in"

he'll be here in January
though, I wouldn’t expect him to challenge AJ and Greg next year…..he has some bad weight that Cochran has to get under control first. And yes, Star will more than likely transfer or change positions b/c he will never be the starting QB with the others guys around

Darrah
is making a smart move. He will always have the satisfaction of knowing he played at Bama. Now, maybe he can have the fun of actually starting for a college team.
I would not be surprised if Star Jackson also transfers. In days gone by he may have tried to play for Bama at safety or wr, but we are just too deep for him to play at any of those positions. If he were a great runner (which he is not) he could be our wildcat guy etc. But as it stands now, unless Sims falls through or AJ get’s hurt, I just can not see him playing in the future for Bama.
Morgan Ogilive could now have a more important roll as scout team qb. I’m guessing he sticks with Bama even if he never plays. Hopefully he will at least get to dress out and run through the tunnel.
I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.
Saban will either
find a spot for him or suggest that he transfer. I hope he finds a way to contribute, though. I like him a lot.

Good luck Darrah......
Good size and rocket arm, just not the best accuracy.
I saw Star in the 2nd half of the North Texas game and was not very impressed. His throws were late and his mechanics were so-so. CNS said that AJ was the co-backup qb, so I believe that is the sign of things to come for Star. With AJ and now Simms coming in, not much hope for ever starting.
