i thought it was hilarious and a perfect compliment to Tebow’s gator chomping at our bench last year in the 4th qtr.

Good riddance, Tebow.

real classy, Ingram. is it because it happens so rarely that opposing players just can’t help themselves when they beat the gators? not nearly the guy your coach is.

He is celebrating the biggest won ‘Bama has had in 20 years. Let the boys have fun. It isn’t classless at all; the guy is happy about our dominate performance…no one can blame him. It’s called emotion.

Do you like it when auburn sings rammer jammer after a win?

Just saying.

And I give all props to Ingram. He was the best player tonight, and best in the country. Doesn’t mean I have to like the twist of the knife.

by falcontom on Dec 6, 2009 12:45 AM CST up reply actions

No...

…I don’t like it, but it comes with the turf. If we’re going to talk that level of shit (and “Rammer Jammer” is about as shit talking as it gets), then we’ve got to take our medicine when somebody gives it to us.

Which has not happened in

9 straight SEC games; hence we are the Crimson overlords for a year.

That said, the Gator chomp is the creepiest thing this side of Nuremberg.

I don't mind at all, actually...

They sing it every time they beat us, and hell rightfully so. I don’t like it, of course, but I certainly don’t have a problem with it either. It’s simple… if you do it, then you should be able to take a dose of your own medicine in return. Again, that comes with the territory of doing it in the first place.

Ingram didn’t do anything wrong. Now, had he gone over and licked Tebow’s tears, then yes you’d have an argument, but for the Gator chomp? No way.

Exactly right.

In a perfect world. I would prefer that our players not do this, but it was plainly out of sheer exuberance, and on our sideline, not after a play and not directed toward UF’s bench, players, or fans.

And Urban...

…is the guy that kept calling timeouts to prolong Georgia’s misery last year. That’s coming from the man in charge, not a college aged player.

by Nico2.0 on Dec 6, 2009 12:45 AM CST reply actions

Yes! So glad we got to show Urban what class really is when we could have easily let our senior back get a TD at the end.

by brandonh on Dec 6, 2009 12:50 AM CST up reply actions

When has Urban ever done anything like that to Bama?

The 2 timeouts was a direct response to the celebration the year before by uga. Message received I’m pretty sure. He could have run up 60+ on Bobby last week. Anyway, I know I’m not winning any arguments on this board, and I’ve said my peace. Your game was dominant tonight, and I will root for you in Pasadena over those sad-sack horns. Karma is a bitch though, and a fairly well-documented one when it comes to opposing teams doing the gator chomp!

Huh?

I was following you up until this:

Karma is a bitch though, and a fairly well-documented one when it comes to opposing teams doing the gator chomp!

Huh? So I guess you’re saying that it’s ultimately going to come back to bite us in the ass that we did the Gator chomp? As in losing games, players getting hurt, whatever? But, of course, those things happen anyway. That’s not karma, that’s the reality of playing a physical, highly competitive sport. And, for the record, you could easily make that same argument back against yourself… tonight was just karma for doing it from last year, right?

I think you are placing way too much importance on some stupid little motion. Again, it’s really just a stupid body motion cheer, nothing more than that. To read anything more into it than that just means that you really need to put down the Gatorade.

we can play better than we did last night. we had a missed PAT, julio had a drop, we had soem uncreative play calling in the middle of the 2nd quarter (we punted twice and didn’t manage the clock well towards the end of the half and wound up intentionally letting the first half expire). plus we gave up several big plays on defense. i expect that we will play better in all three pahses of the game vs tejas.

that game is going to be an unholy blood letting. Bama DESTROYS tejas by at least 30 points.

we're still capable of better.

however, and effort like the one we got last night means we beat texas by at least 24 maybe 30. i think we’ll play even closer to perfect though and really, just seriously, beat the ever living shit out of one of the most overrated teams to make it to the title game in a long time. tejas finally played their first halfway decent opponent last night, and they very nearly blew it, even though nebraska was trying to hand them the game. tejas sucks, they did not pass the test in their only serious challenge (they somehow escaped with a W, but failed the test IMO), and they will be completely and utterly annihilated when they face the Crimson Tide.

Auburn fan here in peace

Congrats on the big win. I’m not going to lie, I was rooting for the Gators, but a small part of me did enjoy watching Tebow cry on national television.

Before this weekend, I thought that whichever team won the SEC championship game would get stomped by Texas. However, after watching them squeak by Nebraska by the skin of their teeth, I’m not so sure. I thought it was interesting that Les Miles took over coaching in the last 20 seconds for Texas.

Best of luck in the NC game. I can’t say I’m pulling for you, but I will say good luck.

And, in a related story, this week marked the 5,000th performance of the Broadway musical "Cats." It also marked the 5,000th time a guy turned to his wife and said, "What the hell is this?"

While I agree with that

I still believe the SEC is having a down year this season. Two great teams, one pretty good team, a bunch of mediocrity, and Vanderbilt. Going 12-0 against this year’s SEC isn’t as impressive as it usually is (it’s still very impressive, don’t think I’m not saying it is), and I just figured this would be the year that the SEC BCSNC game dominance came to a halt. I think TCU is probably the best team in the country, but given the events of yesterday, the Tide will probably walk away with the crystal football on January 8 (?).

And, in a related story, this week marked the 5,000th performance of the Broadway musical "Cats." It also marked the 5,000th time a guy turned to his wife and said, "What the hell is this?"

by jd is legend on Dec 6, 2009 11:36 AM CST up reply actions

the version of this argument seems to be...

the difference between the have’s and the have not’s in the SEC is vastly wider than in any other conference. so the question is, can we argue a top-heavy conference is more dominant than one that spreads the wealth a bit better?

not sure what i think about that but there is an aspect of that argument i can agree with. the increased parity makes watching the overall pac 10 and big 12 matchups more exciting than any given one you might get in the sec (unless you are emotionally invested in the outcome, of course).

I don't care for this sort of thing

and I said, “Stop that” when I saw it, but as others have indicated, Florida’s players and fans give the Gator Chomp after every big play and victory, so Ingram and Jones were letting off some steam. You see BJ Scott next to them and you just have the feeling that those three guys have heard enough about Florida. You sense that Florida’s coaches, when recruiting, talked badly about Alabama, and that they are/were tired of hearing about how Florida was the best team in the country.

I hope none of our fans threw sugar at any of their fans.

but as mentioned above, it comes with the territory. find a texas fan and ask them what happens every time they lose (and sometimes all it takes is a big play)…horns down. it may not be as dramatic as ingram’s super giant gator chomp, but they get it from opposing players and fans alike. either don’t have a ridiculous hand sign thingy…or don’t lose. your choice.

Get use to it!

Teams and fans have been mocking the gators with that stupid chomp for decades, okay. get over it! I have been in the stands when UF has beaten FSU and they all mock the war chant. It happens. Thats what happens when you lose. And don’t thik UF wasn’t doing that before, during, and after the game last year. Those players remember that. Any if anyone can do it, its the players. And players like Ingram ran on them, was punches, scraped, scarred the whole game against that defense. He gets to do it. Its not classless by them, its kids having fun. Get over it and get over yourself. Jesus!

It's not what I would like to see from a potential heisman winner..

but it’s nice to see the gators on the other side, receiving the hazing. Any team that supports throwing the deep ball, being up by 4 scores deserves any response that comes.

I don't get...

the oversensitiveness when it comes this. It’s not like they acted like the Boise state player who got LaGarret Blount’s wrath and did the gator chomp in a Florida player’s face. They did it on their own sideline celebrating, just like the Florida team would have been doing if they would have won. People need to ease up a little. If you get offended by someone making fun of another teams cheer, you’re taking the game too seriously, and you need to get a life.

First off....

Congrats to the Tide and the fans. I know , especially for the fans (my wife is a huge fan, to say the least) it’s been a long time coming.

The only complaint I got about the game: Saban shoulda let Upchurch run it in at the end just so Meyer would know how it feels when somebody runs up the score. However, Saban has more class than that and he had those boys completely focused and ready to go last night.

Ingram and McElroy last night, WOW!!! I can’t really say anything more. That defense was all over lil’ timmy and the best part about the game wasn’t only seeing the Tide celebrate the win, IT WAS SEEING LIL’ TIMMY TEBOW CRYING!!!!!!

We over at Tomahawk Nation THANK YOU for delivering that ass whoopin’ (if you don’t believe me, go check out the blog. Oh and we got a perfect snap shot of timmy and a fan crying too!!).

i thought about this myself...

and it makes more strategic sense to let the clock run out since, at that point in the game, your command over the clock eclipses your command over the score. even with a three-td lead, getting a touchdown opens the door to letting the opposing team control the ball. even if you aren’t concerned about losing – you don’t want injuries and you don’t want them to kill the momentum of the win you need to go into the championship game.

it was a classy move but, on reflection, it’s also the right strategy as well.
