BCS Selection Show Open Thread

Bcs_logo2_medium

The hot rumor on the street is that our beloved Tide will be playing Texas in the BCS National Championship Game, but the rest of the bowl games are pretty much up in the air. There are usually a few surprises in bowl seeding, and I'm sure that will be the case again this year. Either way, chime in here with your thoughts from the BCS Selection Show and the unveiling of the full bowl line-up afterward.

Note: Apparently the team will not be watching the show tonight, and will instead be attending the team's year-end awards banquet (we'll have more up later on the awards from that). Coach Saban, however, is expected to appear live via teleconference at some point during the show with Texas coach Mack Brown.

Why watch when you already know where both you and the team you just blew out are going? Does anything else matter? I hope they enjoy the awards banquet and have a wonderful and much deserved celebration.

When the Pac 10 followed the replay rules instead of getting it right in the Oregon/OU fumble issue, people wanted the refs fired.

There was a second left on the clock, and the replay booth noticed it. It was the right call.

That's my point

People bitched when the “replay standards” were followed and it obviously changed the outcome of the game . . . now they’re bitching when the replay standards aren’t followed in an effort to get an obviously blown call correct.

I'm wrong all the time.

by PeteHoliday on Dec 6, 2009 10:32 PM CST up reply actions

Don't be obstinate.

In both cases, people are demanding that the rules be followed. People weren’t bitching that the “replay standards” were followed, they bitched that the call was blown, despite the fact that it was reviewed. Here, people are bitching that the officials reviewed something that the rules say can’t be reviewed. That’s entirely logically consistent.

by Espyonage on Dec 7, 2009 12:25 AM CST up reply actions

That's my beef
Here, people are bitching that the officials reviewed something that the rules say can’t be reviewed.

That game was over. Anomalous clockwork has always been part of the game (and obviously contemplated by the B12s rules). For TX to say that the refs “followed their morals” to give them another second in which to negate their own stupidity was asinine…almost as revolting as the talking heads on the WWL saying that “it was the right call” like Athena from the head of Zeus…or Dan Beebe’s inability to tell the Pelinis precisely why he thought that it was “the good call”

by Stuck in the Plains on Dec 7, 2009 8:05 AM CST up reply actions

Same thing

In the Oregon/OU game, the replay rules said that the replay official could not comment to the game officials on parts of the play that were not under review.

In other words: the possession of the football was not reviewable under replay rules. The only thing that was reviewable was whether the ball had gone 10 yards before it was touched. The official didn’t have an angle to overturn the call on the field but did see that the officials mis-called possession. He was not, by the same rules you’re talking about here, allowed to tell the game officials that.

Same rules. You can’t have it both ways.

I’ve never seen so many people be so militant about wanting the game rules to be imposed incorrectly just to satisfy some arbitrary rule about what’s reviewable.

The imperative is to get the calls right. In this case, they did.

I'm wrong all the time.

C'mon people...they HAVE been doing it...consistently

What have they done the past 5-7 years?
TCU
2009 12 0
2008 11 2
2007 8 5
2006 11 2
2005 11 1

BSU
2009 12 0
2008 12 1
2007 10 3
2006 13 0
2005 9 4
2004 11 1
2003 13 1
2002 12 1

UTAH
2009 9 3
2008 13 0
2007 9 4
2006 8 5
2005 7 5
2004 12 0
2003 10 2

Honestly, would you take Utah’s winning record since 2003 over ours (79%)? How about BSU (88%)? What about TCU (84%)?

Hint, ours over the past 5 years is just a shade over 72%…and that’s with 3 ten win seasons.

What else do these non-AQs have to do?

The standards will continue to move

as the teams meet them. Apparently their schedules are weak. I’m not really sure the MWC schedule is weaker than an ACC schedule. And Boise State beat Oregon, the PAC-10 winner. I’m not even sure one of these schools would have made it if Texas had lost.

by billycthulhu on Dec 6, 2009 10:44 PM CST up reply actions

do it against better competition is all...

BSU plays the easiest schedule i have ever seen. TCU’s and Utah’s is a little bit harder. If they continue to play elite competition (and only playing pac-10 teams isn’t doing that) then i will start to ease up. Until then, im gonna stick to being a hater.
