Florida State is zeroing in on Alabama associate head coach and linebackers coach Sal Sunseri as a leading candidate for the defensive coordinator vacancy on new coach Jimbo Fisher's Seminoles staff.
Sunseri is expected to interview as a possible successor to retiring Seminoles defensive chief Mickey Andrews, and a deal could be announced as early as this week, multiple sources have told the Press-Register.
Gentry Estes: Florida State closes in on Alabama assistant coach Sal Sunseri
You would certainly hate to see Sunseri go, but realistically you cannot expect him to turn down the Florida State defensive coordinator job, and honestly any time you go 13-0 and make the national championship game, you're likely going to lose some assistants regardless. Hopefully Sunseri will stay in Tuscaloosa, but at least they are targeting him instead of Kirby Smart (who from that article apparently rebuffed interest from FSU).

He coached LBs for Belichick and Parcells, knows Saban well, I would say he is the most likely candidate

So its safe to say
Kirby is staying put?
"The goal is to be a champion," Saban said. "I didn’t say to win a championship. I just said be a champion. That’s our goal here. That’s what we want to do."- Nick Saban
I don't know about that
My money would be on Smart turning down FSU for UGA. But that’s pure speculation, I have nothing upon which to base that.
I think
Saban’s comments about discouraging lateral moves and trying to help his coaches achieve success were pointed at Kirby Smart. He really, really doesn’t want to lose his defensive coordinator to the same position at another SEC school. I would imagine that Saban has promised to help him become a head coach soon and strongly encouraged him to stay for awhile. I think that’s what he’ll do if he’s not taking the FSU job, because he has a lot of personal connections down there.
This is what bothers me so much about the 33 day window
Arguably, the two teams playing in the NC game are very different that the two teams that won their conference games over a month prior. Every year people on the staff of the two top teams get picked up by others and it seems that it can be such a distraction and take away from the quality of the game that is to be played. I wish the game was this Saturday.
I wouldn't piss off the boys from Alabama . . . DBT
Kirby
Has anyone heard anything definitive about Kirby Smart and Georgia. I sure hope we don’t lose either Sal or Kirby.
Would love to hear rollbamaroll's unbiased opinion on Sal
Bit worried that he has never been a defensive coordinator at a D-1 school. I think his recruiting is good although not on the level of Smart’s. Your opinion?
