'Bama Dominates AP All-SEC Team
Saban got Coach of the Year honors while McClain and Ingram got Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year honors, respectively. Javier Arenas was selected on the first and second team in different positions (DB and all-purpose, respectively).
Tiffin, Johnson, Barron and Cody also made the first team. Carpenter and Peek found themselves on the second team. That brings the total number All SEC spots awarded to Alabama to 10, tying Florida (we had one more first team, they had one more second team). Only one other squad (Georgia) had more than 5 total selections.
Also, for those scoring at home, The Best Tailback In The State was awarded a spot on the second team, while Mark Ingram was a unanimous first-team selection.

All-SEC Cornerback
How deep is the cornerback position in the SEC? Patrick Peterson, an almost certain top 10 pick next year, was second team. On top of that Trevard Lindley, who when healthy may be the best corner back in the conference, and a potential first round pick in his own right, was not on either the 1st or 2nd team.
I thought...
…PP at LSU out-EB’d EB at UT this year, much as I hate to almost say it….

much like his coach.

I personally....
….thought it had a lot more to do with teams simply unwilling to throw the ball to Eric Berry’s side of the field. It is really difficult to quantify defensive backs, especially when no one throws the ball anywhere near them.
EB has been a known quantity for a number of seasons now. People didn’t suddenly realize that he was a huge threat this year . . . from the games I watched, I didn’t really notice him getting less action than in previous years.
I'm wrong all the time.
Agreed with Pete...
Berry played well this year, and his first-team all-conference selection is justified, but he really didn’t play up to the hype this year. Part of that wasn’t his fault — CBS practically hyped the guy like the defensive Tebow for most of the year — but even so I’m not sure he was really a better player than he was in 2008, and if anything he might have been slightly worse.

UT was playing him up on the line a lot more this year it seemed like. He only played center field in obvious passing situations. With Fulmer/Chavis, he would always be 10-15 yards deep.

Obviously a Bammer conspiracy!
"So I want everybody to think here for a second, how much does this game mean to you? 'Cause if it means something to you, you can't stand still. You understand? You play fast! You play strong! You go out there and dominate the man you're playing against, and you make his ass quit! That's our trademark! That's our M.O.... as a team! That's what people know us as!" - Coach Nick Saban before the 2008 LSU game.

Congratulations,
Y’all had a hell of a year and your players deserve the honors. Good luck against UT, and if they play against y’all like they did against the ’huskers, should be an easy win.
Thanks...

I think its awesome that...
Out of 5 Unanimous selections, bama had 3 of them. Pretty sweet. Also Tebow (per his numbers this year, not his career) should not have been selected first team! Ugh i hate how the media lifts him up!

Hmm...
…who belongs in front of him? He looked better than any other QB we played this year, so I’m only buying GMac as a replacement (homer that I am)….

Mallett has the numbers

Ryan Mallett
Mallett may have had the overall numbers, but against the three best teams he faced his numbers look awful. He had a 40 percent completion rate, a 97.25 quarterback rating, and averaged 6 yards an attempt.
It just was not a really good year for quarterback play, from a whole season perspective. I do agree with NLS that no quarterback had a better game than McElroy did against anyone of any consequence.
I would vote Mallet first team
and Tebow second team… but had McElroy played well vs 2 of the 3 teams he struggle against, i see no reason why he shouldnt have been 1st team. But Tenn, Ole Miss, and SC hurt his numbers too bad to get all Conference.

I can't see...
…how anyone could vote Mallett over Tebow…and I can’t stand Tebow…but whatevs….

Mallett looked pretty good against most everyone except Alabama
…and nobody looked good against Alabama, so it’s hard to fault him for that.
I'm wrong all the time.
This will complement nicely...

I don't know how
Kareem Jackson does not at least make 2nd team corner. I also think Washington, Anders, and Dareus could and should be somewhere on the line.
To put anyone from UGA, except MAYBE Curran, on any defensive team is crazy. Yet, they have 2 linemen second team. What a joke.
I guess the truth is they can’t put all the Bama players that deserve it on the team because then there would be no room for anyone else. Plus, for the conference’s sake I guess it is best everyone think our D was all about McClain to give everyone else hope that we are not just loaded on both sides of the ball for next year!!
All Freshmen team should include Nico Johnson and Trent Richardson, although we redshirted most of our freshmen future stars.
I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.
Jackson
I am huge Kareem fan, but did you see the ridiculous talent the SEC has at cornerback? I am not sure you could pick a cornerback in the country, and hope they would crack the first two teams of the All-SEC list. My hope is Jackson comes back for one more year, and gets to play some of Javy’s position next year. He would definitely be first team next year.
As for UGA I think it is more an indictment on how much talent they wasted on that side of the ball. Also, it helps individual players rack up a lot of stats (tackles, sacks, etc…) when your defense is on the field so much.

Some of these selections are just laughable...
… just look at some of these:
Rennie Curran a first-team linebacker? He’s nothing more than the best player on a bad defense. There is no way he should go over someone like Kelvin Sheppard.
Joe Adams the second-team receiver? The guy didn’t even catch 30 passes this year on a team that threw almost 400 passes. He was the fourth leading receiver on his team. And he goes over Julio Jones, Marquis Maze, Terrance Toliver, etc.?
How does Justin Houston even make the second team? He would struggle to even get on the field at a place like ’Bama or Florida.
Some of these selections make a lot of sense, but a lot of these really just make you question whether or not these voters even watch the games.

Congrats to our guys...
They deserve every accolade coming their way. We have a number of unsung heroes as well. Who would have thought before the season that when the all SEC team was announced that Julio would not make it, yet we’d still be the #1 team in the country? Not a chance in hell! I still would not take another receiver over him because he came through for us in other ways besides just catching the ball. I look forward to a breakout NC game and a fantastic junior season for him.
You had me at "ROLL TIDE"!!!
