Ole Miss had one of the best off seasons of all time!
I happened to read a bowl preview at the Penn State blog. I came across this hilarious Cotton Bowl summary: "Cotton, Oklahoma St. vs. Ole Miss-The Rebels' win in this game last year propelled them to one of the best off seasons in college football history. They were ranked No. 6, and their quarterback was picked by Steve Spurn-ier as the preseason SEC player of the year. With a win, who knows what the offseason holds for the Rebels this year? "

It was a pretty kickass off season, if I do say so myself!
WHOOOOOOOOOO HOTTYTODDY!
I do find it funny though that everybody wants to rag on Ole Miss for the whole “top-10 team fallen from grace” thing, while they’re seemingly leaving Oklahoma State, USC, and LSU alone about it.
But perhaps it’s just a perception thing.

it’s a couple of things. USC and LSU have won championships recently. USC is certainly catching a lot of hell over their disappointing season, but not as much about being over-hyped because they have had so much success. LSU… everybody knows Les Miles is a dumbass, but LSU just has so much talent.
And Ole Miss was getting picked to win a NC by some high profile media-types (Brando for example) despite not having won anything recently and Nutt’s proclivity to tank when there are high expectations. A lot of people just didn’t buy into Ole Miss. So when you fell from grace, it was an “I told you so” moment.
What you're seeing is team spirit. It's like the Holy Spirit, but more powerful.

Sure, some bandwagoners that were waaay high on Ole Miss might start to piss on the team, and with that whooping of Texas Tech, everyone thought Johnny Reb would come out on fire, but would you really prefer to be a USC fan this year? Yeah, your egg bowl was pretty painful, but they’re thinking its the end of an era over there. Zeus has kicked them out of Mount Fucking Olympus! Or Odin or whatever.
