We shall see if the "a game cannot be considered a National Championship unless it's the last game of a single game elimination tournament" card works. I believe the main target will be for merchandising, as it will not be allowed to say "National Championship" if this bill passes.

Do we really need...

…the federal government making rules for college football? I might be out of line, but I don’t like it. I do like the playoff idea, but not the government making it happen.

No we don't...

But after TCU-Boise State I don’t trust the BCS to move towards a playoff without outside help.

Stupid BCS, turning me into a government is the answer person.

Kind of split

It’s sometimes hard to remember something turning out better when the government got involved, but much like officiating, we only remember the bad.

“With everything going on in the country, I can’t believe that Congress is wasting time and spending taxpayers’ money on football,” Bill Hancock, the BCS executive director, said in a phone interview with The Associated Press. “We feel strongly that managing of college sports is best left to the people in higher education.”

Hancock feels like the presidents of the large conference schools have the people’s best interests at heart. In truth, the cash-cow that is College Football has less and less to do with the institutions they represent and more to do with the giant piles of money being created from television, advertising, and other contract dealings.

Do we (the people) need an arbiter to speak on our behalf? Maybe?

Government involvment

is just politicans trying to gain some political favor to save their jobs. They know they are losing popularity on any number of issue but see this as an easy win.

As much as the present system stinks, it is about as fair as a playoff system because you would still have people left out. Plus a playoff would in many ways make the regular season less important.

For example with a playoff, UF would be in the playoff, meaning Bama would likely have to beat them again which would be one-wrong and two-very tough.

I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.
