Who Are the Tide's 3 Biggest SEC Football Rivals?
I'm preparing a thread over at sister SB Blog Track 'Em Tigers to determine who every team in the SEC ranks as their three biggest rivals and compare the cross-over. I'd like to know who Bama fans feel are their top three conference rivals, either current or past. Please help me out and vote in this poll and I'll compile all the results into a thread next week.
Thanks!

I know this is sacreligous
But where i a from in Marshall county there is an influx of Tenn fans so over the past few years I have started leaning toward Tenn then Auburn then LSU in that order for my list of hated. I just dont like Tenn.
I am a member of the Sabanation Roll!!Tide!!
That's not sacrilege...
I despise UT. I’ve been nauseated after losing to the Barn. Pissed after losing to the Whos, but losing to the Vols will make me weep.

I'm pretty sure that it's because
I grew up (by and large) on the Tenn. border: In Ft. Payne, Huntsvegas and Rogersville. Tennessee was always more of an immediate fixture (and threat) that Lil’ Sis.

Agreed...
Grew up in North Alabama and the biggest rival to me has always been Tennessee. I dislike Auburn and LSU, but I HATE the Vols.
you sure that isnt just a bit of jealousy?
i mean in the last ten years, tennessee has a BCS trophy, LSU has two and Auburn has gone undefeated…and then bama has… well…you have an expensive coach. and you made it to the sugar bowl. so there’s that.
Jealous....
of teams having a few years of success….please man. Did you forget who you were talking to?
When you are an Alabama fan you are expected to hate Auburn, I hate Tennessee because I want to.
i guess i did
the dust must be starting to get a little thick on that trophy from, what was it, 92? 93? i don’t remember.
Expensive
coach? Are you serious? Look at what UT is paying for that circus side show you call a coaching staff there buddy. And I’m wondering if you’re a betting man. I’m willing to bet the farm you wouldn’t wager on who has the most future success at their respective schools, Kiffin vs. Saban. Care to take that fool’s bet my friend?

and I’ve already got money, with much more to come, on Urban putting up 50+ on UcheaT come September. That is going to be a fun game to watch. And the season will just implode from there.

i'm both.
i went to UT, but i am from New Orleans. I also have family ties to Bama. It was actually a legitimate question. I think alot of LSU fans recent dislike for Bama is that Saban is there, and in some ways that can be traced to a jealousy of your tradition.
In my days at UT, we always viewed UF as our biggest rival (jealousy), and the third saturday in october was more tradition than anything.
both?
I don’t see how someone can split his/her allegiance with two separate SEC schools. I just don’t understand.
When you are an Alabama fan you are expected to hate Auburn, I hate Tennessee because I want to.
I always
find it interesting with the guys out there with dual allegiance…i think it is to increase there odds of potentially having a winner on a given weekend.
I live in BR and lswho is at least #3 on my list.
ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!!
ROLL TIDE ROLL
yea that makes no sense
ive lived in Louisiana my whole life, ALL of my friends are whos, i go to lsu, every girlfriend ive had has been an lsu fan, and i still passionately hate everything that is LSU athletics. I think its more of a personality issue, weaker personalities have no problem rooting for two different teams. Roll Tide Baby.

Either way, both Bama and UT's Championships came...
10+ years ago, and no matter how you slice it, ’98 is no more “recent history” today than ’92 is.
"There's a lot of blood, sweat, and guts between dreams and success" - Coach Bryant
Exactly
and if you go back and look at that era, UT should’ve had at least one more championship with Manning if not two.
"All hockey players are bilingual. They know English and profanity." - Gordie Howe
Well, they SHOULDN'T have had that one...
but they paid (Arkansas quarterback) Clint Stoerner to fumble the ball while trying to run the clock out to give UT a chance to win the game, which they ultimately did. But everyone catches a lucky break once in a while, even us. But that one was a lucky break for the ages. Can’t think of anymore that are still engrained in my head from that long ago…
"There's a lot of blood, sweat, and guts between dreams and success" - Coach Bryant
that was such a sweet play!
i was in my dorm room for that one, and could hear the crowd from across campus. it was amazing.
Need I remind you that Bama
has won the SEC more recently than UT. As a UT graduate I always found vols to be uneducated with regard to football (and human decency). UT is our biggest rival in my eyes. Although i seriously doubt it will be competitive under Kiffin is gone.
Oh, I almost forgot. Memphis has gone to more bowl games over the last five years. I guess college sports in Tennessee have moved to the western portion of the state.
I wouldn't piss off the boys from Alabama . . .
I have actually never called into PF
Although, I am a UT grad originally from Memphis, but I graduated from Bama in the middle and I’m not Jewish.
I wouldn't piss off the boys from Alabama . . .
Admit it
you so want to be PF’s favorate. You aren’t. And its killing you.

Cause UT has had a wealth of success of late!..(sticks finger down his throat and gags)..my god man know your place.
When you are an Alabama fan you are expected to hate Auburn, I hate Tennessee because I want to.
they have a crystal trophy
bama does not. i would say that is more recent.
you are grasping at straws...
There is no doubt that it has been a while since our last NC but to say we are jealous is just silly. Do i wish we had a NC of late..of course! That would make us jealous of every NC winner since 92. We are very proud of the direction our team is going. You couldn’t pay me a million dollars to be in the same place that UT is in right now. No way!
When you are an Alabama fan you are expected to hate Auburn, I hate Tennessee because I want to.
If UT...

UcheaT troll.....
It is apparent that you are nothing more than a idiot fan who has nothing to add. You win one championship and nothing since, and you’re talking trash….. You do not have our history and with the MORON coach you have, no future.
I grew up in North Alabama, Florence/Killen area and had to put up the people from Lawerenceburg and surrounding area driving down to shop because there were no “big stores” there. UcheaT WAS a legitimate team until Fat Phil stabbed Majors in the back and the turned their back on him. And to add to that was the way they treated Bill Battle back in the day, I know I’m showing my age, but the fans, who I’m friends with, are unrealistic when it comes to football knowledge.
I dispise UT and always will.
Well, are you gonna pull them pistols, or whistle dixie?
UT has a loss to Wyoming...
Bama does not. I see where you’re going with this… Your turn…

Tubby
came about as close to getting Croomed in ‘08 as you can get without a Crooming actually taking place. After the outcome of that game, we might even need a new category – maybe Croomed with an asterisk that indicates that the Barn actually won the game points-wise? 3-2 showed early in the season that the Barn had no offense, and was the beginning of the end for ol’ Tubs. A Crooming? In reality, no; technically…I’d say so.
And getting Johnsoned, (de)Nutted, and Butt-cutted all in the same season sounds mighty painful! Hilarious!

No your straight on....my bad!!
I didn’t read I just glanced….that bein said UT would have to be first for me….the only problem with all the old rivalries is that we don’t play some of them anymore…GT most notably. I’ll always hate on the Barners 4 life…and really and truly LSWho has never really been a rivalry. It’s popular now because of CNS and a west foe. As for the 3rd….it’s a tough one for me….I lean between UGA an Old Miss…up until we split into the east and west….those 2 teams were always the hardest, so more traditional out weighs cliche hatred with the Whos.
" Official Ambassador of RBR"
It's cool...
…and I’m not saying GT should be #3, although I probably would have pre-Saban. Now? I’m leaning toward LSU, but it’s a tough call. The bottom line is that we are a big rival for several schools, but we really only have two major historical rivalry games. My main problem with the poll is that Arky, UGA, and MSU were on there in front of GT and Ole Miss, which — historically — makes little sense to me. That being said, I’m sure LSU still would have won, but mainly because people forget (or don’t know much) about what happened before the past few years.

Yeah your correct
the 69 game duel between Archie Manning and Scott Hunter is one of the greatest games in college football history, let alone Bama history. But my only thing about Miss St is that since they dealt Coach Bryant the 1980 loss they have been a thorn in so many things, never winning much but just being an annoying something to deal with on good years
"The game demonstrated the superiority of the Southern teams over any aggregation that the damn yankees could send across the Mason and Dixon Line." Sports writer Charles Israel of the Philadelphia Bulletin after the Tide's 61-6 win over Syracuse in the 1953 Orange Bowl.
That's mostly true...
…but our rivalry with Ole Miss, a team that has actually won both the SEC and national championships, goes much deeper. Plus, we have very narrowly beaten them every year since they destroyed us (as several teams did) in 2003. That 1980 game only stands out because we were ranked #1…and it was MSU’s first win since 1957. I just can’t put them there.

And I know first hand...
how much the Rebs HATE us. They like to beat MSU… They gear their whole season around beating Bama. I went to the AU/Ole Miss game this year in all my Crimson Glory. They HATED me. Our current...
…three biggest rivals are the three schools with the most backwards-a$$ fanbases, so — in that sense — this poll is correct.

LSU
is a rival because we play them every year and now they are our biggest threat.
BUT I HATE FLORIDA and that will not change until UM is gone.
Those Gators...
…are slimy, aren’t they? They should be called the Salamanders or Newts instead of the Gators or Lizards. Or, my personal favorite: the Gay-turds. It evokes the mascot while defining the major characteristics of the Florida fan.

I see what you did there...
"There's a lot of blood, sweat, and guts between dreams and success" - Coach Bryant
Why does the Gator mascot need a female mascot also.....
Is it because he’s not sure what team he plays for American League or National?
Well, are you gonna pull them pistols, or whistle dixie?
I think just because Tennessee is disgusting they should rank number one.
When Auburn is down, im happy… when lsu is down, im very happy… when tennessee is down im estatic.

he has his moments..
just like the rest of us.
When you are an Alabama fan you are expected to hate Auburn, I hate Tennessee because I want to.
One last thing on Lame Kiffin
There is a good article (actually the writing is somewhat bad but he makes good points) up over at CBS Sports on how dumb Kiffin is.
Kiffin’s Tennessee train is already derailing

Georgia and Florida
Are more of a “gentleman’s rivalry” so-to-speak. Sure, there are Bama fans that hate those schools for personal reasons, just as there are UGA or ’Gator fans that hate Bama for personal reasons…but for the most part our fans are respectful of one another, the atmosphere is competitive but mostly friendly, and the coeds are hot as all hell.
Auburn and Alabama are like the Hatfields and the McCoys. Nobody is really completely sure why we hate each other so much, but as children are born they are raised with hate of the opposing faction as a core value. Now we hate each other because it’s a culture…it’s just what we do.
Alabama and Tennessee hate each other because of a long history of dogfighting. One school tries to screw the other over, and the other school retaliates. Alabama and Tennnessee is not a friendly rivalry. This is hatred. This is wishing God would see fit to smite Tennessee out of existance. I piss myself off just writing about them.
LSU used to be no big deal. They were just little miscreants a couple of states over who we knew were jealous of us, but in reality were barely a blip on out radar. Then Saban came to Tuscaloosa, and all hell broke loose. Now they Fightin’ Corndogs are like an anthill that’s just been kicked, and we have no choice but to get to stompin’.
Really not sure why Arkansas and State are choices in the poll, but I guess extra choices are never a bad thing!
Did you come up with that yourself?
Because i think this is the best description of those three rivalries ive read.

they smell like corndogs
"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit."
I don't know who...
…exactly coined the phrase Corndogs for LSU fans, some say it was an Auburn guy, but I DO like the way we in the SEC have run with it the last few years!

You might want to read an AuBARN...
…blog called Track Em Tigers.
"I hate everything orange"
It's all about Crimson - ROLL TIDE!!!
Cognitive. Dissonance.
Cant believe a Barner came up with that….esp with so many animal husbandry terms at their disposal!

Just gonna throw this out there...
when was the last time LSU or UT directly cost us a shot at a national title? UF has done that twice since the inception of the SECCG so they are firmly in my top 3.
LSU...
…did it in 2005. The last time for UT? 1999?

And Auburn...
dog-piled on the following week. Honk, honk!
Nice little gerrymander with the 1959-1981 stats up top with Tempe. Actually, Alabama went 18 of 23 during that time, but what I think the more accurate statement was that Bryant was 19 of 25 against Auburn…
Pete’s numbers were correct, but always be sure to double check his billing hours…

I'm talking about a single loss dashing our championship hopes.
In ’99 and ’05 we had other losses as well.
'99 esp...
That La. Tech loss alone would have kept a sane pollster from putting us in the BCSCG.

True, although...
we effectively ended up in the champ. game that year anyway. We just didn’t have the “umph” to pull that Sugar Bowl out – more’s the pity.
We were outclassed in nearly every phase
in the first “U” matchup. But, the good thing was that Langham spent so much time getting burned deep that game, he certainly made up for it three years later.

He is just another “Aubsessed” Barner
I have to either stop drinking.... or drink more
Yeah
I saw it. Kelph posted a fanshot but its all messed up when you click on the link so I couldn’t comment. Just wishfull thinking, agenda-laden BS from an Aubie who is so desparate, they are actually making the case that ’Bama having “too much success” is a possible negative. What a flaming moron.

Don't think...
that we don’t appreciate you going over there to visit. Remember the saying about no such thing as ‘bad’ publicity?
Go over there one more time and read all the results: Who are the most prevalent rivals in the SEC? It’s not partisan at all…
Thanks for letting me post over here, guys!
